FOR ANY DRIVER ON THE ROAD-

THE FLASHING OF RED AND BLUE LIGHTS BEHIND YOU IS NO LAUGHING MATTER.

"This was a case where the driver was legitimately concerned that

they were initially being pulled over by a police officer."

BUT ACCORDING TO CAPE CORAL POLICE FOR TWO CAPE CORAL TEENS THE

LIGHTS BECAME THE VEHICLE FOR A PRANK THAT WENT TOO FAR.

"In this case it turned out to not be a legitimate police car."

"Here's how the whole thing went down.the driver tells police he

noticed the car behind him flashing it's high beams, at it got closer

he also saw flashing red and blue lights coming from the windshield.

Understandably he believes he may be getting getting pulled over, but

quickly realizes something is wrong, then decides to call 911." George

Solis

"The driver was smart enough to see that was probably not a police

car called us we had officers in route very quickly."

POLICE SAY THEY EVENTUALLY CAUGHT UP WITH ANGEL TORRES AND

CHRISTIAN ITURBE AND PULLED THEM OVER FOR FAILING TO STOP AT AN

INTERSECTION.

BOTH ADMITTED TO TAKING PART IN THE FAKE STOP AND SAY THEY USED A

YOUTUBE VIDEO TO MIMIC EMERGENCY LIGHTS.

"it looks like it was a case of a prank that went very very wrong

we had these guys committing a felony in doing so"

BACK AT THE POLICE STATION, POLICE SAY TORRES' MOTHER WAS CREATING

A SCENE AND HAD TO BE DETAINED-

SHE TOLD OFFICERS HER SON WAS A RISING SOCCER STAR AND COUDN'T

AFFORD TO GET IN TROUBLE.

POLICE SAY THEY SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE DECIDING TO

COMMIT A FELONY.

unmarked police cars here at the Cape Coral police department and when

situations like this happen it undermines the public trust.," Return to index of stories...

STORM CHANCES FOR THE WEEKEND

Scattered showers and storms again developed on Friday, but the coverage was lower courtesy of some Saharan dust working through the area. What storms are left will diminish this evening, as temps fall into the 70s. Expect a quiet overnight, with lows in the mid 70s.

Rain and storm chances continue heading into the weekend. We'll see plenty of morning sunshine across the area, with scattered showers and storms developing in the PM hours.

The Saharan dust will be making its exit on Saturday, so coverage of storms may again be lower than usual. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 90s.

The threat for storms will continue into Sunday. Once again, expect a dry morning with partly cloudy skies and showers and storms popping up in the PM hours. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 90s.

The typical July weather pattern looks to continue into next week. Monday & Tuesday will also feature PM showers and storms across the area, with highs in the low 90s.

There are some indications that by midweek some dry air may work into Southwest Florida. This would lower the rain and storm chances from Wednesday thru Friday, but likely not eliminate the threat. Temps will hold in the low 90s.

Tropical Update

It is very quiet in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea and the open waters of the Atlantic as we head into the weekend. With Saharan dust in the area, it will be difficult for any tropical disturbances to develop.

Nancy Markey, Fort Myers

"It's perfect, it's the best thing i've ever done for myself."

BEFORE THIS, NANCY -- WHO'S 74 -- HAD FALLEN SEVERAL TIMES.

SO BADLY -- SHE WAS AFRAID TO WALK ON HER OWN.

Markey

"I fell in my laundry room and I had hit, the floor, its concrete. Of course, I was in really bad shape."

THIS IS ONLY NANCY'S THIRD TIME USING THE ANTI-GRAVITY TREADMILL.

Markey

"in just three tries--do you feel a difference--yes. i can tell a difference. my balance is better and she taught me to walk on my heel."

BEFORE NANCY USED IT -- ASTRONAUTS DID.

NASA ENGINEERS DESIGNED THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT --

SO ASTRONAUTS COULD RE-INTRODUCE THEMSELVES TO GRAVITY AFTER BEING IN OUTER SPACE.

Markey

"Oh i love it, because I know I can't fall!"

THE ANTI GRAVITY TREADMILL USES DIFFERENTIAL AIR PRESSURE TO HELP HOLD THE BODY UP --

AND REDUCE THE IMPACT ON NANCY'S LOWER BODY.

Markey

"It feels like I'm young. it feels like I could walk when i was young."

THREE CAMERAS ARE PLACED STRATEGICALLY AROUND THE TREADMILL

Markey

"oh i love this part haha."

SO, THE THERAPIST CAN WATCH THE PATIENT'S FEET ON THE SCREEN AND MAKE

CORRECTIONS TO THEIR WALKING PATTERN IN REAL TIME.

Tad cranfield, LMH therapy supervisor

"it allows us to start the rehabilitation process earlier and hopefully speed it up."

Markey
