STAYING STORMY ON SUNDAY

Thunderstorms continue rumbling across Southwest Florida this evening.

Though much of the activity across the interior of the state should begin to wane later tonight, a few storms may still be able to survive off shore over the Gulf of Mexico into early Sunday morning.

Temperatures will retreat to mild, yet seasonal levels in the mid to upper 70s overnight.

For Sunday, the east wind across the peninsula will dominate the forecast. That will allow for two weather features to set up. The first includes warm temperatures by lunchtime reaching into the low and mid 90s for a good portion of the region.

The second weather feature is that as the sea breeze develops off the Gulf of Mexico in the afternoon, the westward push of wind will spark scattered downpours and thunderstorms. Like Saturday, areas of rain and thunder should become quite widespread in coverage.

Considering the easterly wind flow, most storms will be pinned to Florida's interior and west coast on Sunday. That means rain and thunder will be in the forecast for the I-75 and US 41 corridors after lunchtime and through the evening.

For the upcoming work week, typical July late afternoon and early evening rain and thunder are likely. Temperatures look seasonal, peaking in the low 90s each afternoon.
