FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Monday afternoon will starts with mainly clear skies and mild temperatures. A few northbound scattered showers may scrape our coastal communities, but coverage of this rain should be isolated.

We'll head into the low to mid 90s for highs this afternoon, with heat index values feeling about 5 degrees warmer than our temperatures.

Winds today will be from the south-southeast this morning, turning onshore by late morning toward midday. After starting with mainly clear skies, clouds will build through the midday and early afternoon.

Scattered showers and storms are expected through the afternoon hours. The I-75 and highway 41 corridors will be right in the path of the afternoon storms.

The overall weather pattern in Southwest Florida will change for the next few days. A cold front will move through into the southeastern United States Tuesday through Thursday. That will influence our weather by shifting the winds to become south and southwesterly.

With those onshore winds, we stand the chance for some rain or storms to move onshore in the morning hours, especially on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

FAST AND EASY -- THAT'S THE REQUIREMENT TANIA SARRIA HAS FOR HER MEALS.

SHE PUTS IN AT LEAST TEN HOURS A DAY AS A PROJECT MANAGER FOR A SOFTWARE SERVICES COMPANY -- AND HER STRESSFUL SCHEDULE DOESN'T ALLOW FOR MUCH ELSE.

"You take a quick 15-20 minutes to go grab your food and then you bring it back to your desk, dial into your meeting and you try to eat it in between your meetings."

FAST FOOD IS A PROVEN CONTRIBUTOR TO OBESITY -- BUT NOW A SMALL STUDY OUT OF OHIO STATE'S WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER SUGGESTS WOMEN WHO EAT THOSE MEALS WHILE STRESSED -- MAY PACK ON MORE POUNDS.

RESEARCHERS ASKED NEARLY SIXTY MIDDLE-AGE WOMEN TO DISCUSS HOW STRESSFUL THEIR LIVES WERE THE DAY BEFORE.

THEY THEN FED THEM A HIGH FAT MEAL TO SEE HOW THEIR METABOLISMS REACTED.

"When the women reported having at least one stressor in their life the day before we were doing the test, that actually reduced their ability to burn calories."

"The difference was about 104 calories. Which is no big deal for a single day, but if you took that across a year, it could be almost 11 pounds."

OUTSIDE EXPERTS SAY IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT TWO-THIRDS OF THE PARTICIPANTS WERE BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS WHO WEIGHED SLIGHTLY MORE THAN THE OTHER WOMEN AND THEY WERE MORE LIKELY TO BE DEPRESSED -- FACTORS THAT COULD SKEW THE RESULTS.

ALSO, LITTLE WAS KNOWN ABOUT HOW THEIR PAST TREATMENT MAY HAVE IMPACTED THEIR METABOLISM.

EXPERTS SAY ONE MESSAGE IS CLEAR: TURNING TO HIGH-FAT FOOD WHILE STRESSED MAY SATISFY YOUR NEED FOR CONVENIENT COMFORT FOODS, BUT IT MAY NOT BE COMFORTING THE NEXT TIME YOU STEP ON A SCALE.

SO MUCH RAIN FELL SO QUICKLY -- IT FLOODED BASEMENTS.

AND OVERWHELMED THE SEWER SYSTEM IN BURBANK, ILLINOIS.

"It came down so fast our sewer lines couldn't keep up with the water that we had. So everything just backed up on us."

IN FLORIDA, THE WEATHER CAUSED A CHAOTIC SCENE AT THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH…

WITNESSES SAY THEY SAW A FEW BOLTS OF LIGHTENING NEARBY.

DISNEY OFFICIALS blame BAD WEATHER FOR THE POWER OUTAGE.

THEN, IN COLORADO -- LIGHTNING STRIKES FROM PASSING STORMS

MADE FOR DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN THE HIGH ALTITUDES OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK.

"We didn't see the bolt, it was just like a white flash." "Something hit me in the head. And I lost my vision and hearing for 10 seconds."

13 OTHERS INJURED.

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

TROPICAL UPDATE

There continues to be no tropical cyclones active in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. No tropical cyclone development is anticipated in the next three to five days. Return to index of stories...
