PAUSE FOR 1ST WEATHER

It was a stormy start to the day across Southwest Florida, but a sun-filled finish with highs in the mid to upper 80s. An isolated shower will be possible this evening inland, otherwise expect dry conditions and temps in the 70s. We'll see overnight lows in the mid 70s.

More storms are expected for Wednesday. Once again, activity will build overnight in the Gulf of Mexico and push onshore in the morning hours. Rain and storms will be likely through much of the morning time frame, with the activity pushing inland in the early afternoon. Highs on Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Another round of morning showers and storms will again be possible on Thursday. The activity will again push inland in the PM hours with highs in the low 90s.

Our winds begin to transition back to the east on Friday, bringing a better chance for storms later in the day. Highs on Friday will be in the low 90s.

The more typical AM sunshine-PM storms routine kicks into high gear for the weekend, with highs both days in the low 90s.

There are some indications that tropical moisture may move in early next week, which would increase the rain and storm chances across Southwest Florida.

COLLIER DEMANDS DUE-PKG

Jennifer hecker

Conservancy of southwest Florida

1:02

Georgia Hiller

Collier county commissioner

A usually very busy --

and lately very controversial oil drilling site in Collier County is quiet tonight.

Jennifer Hecker

Conservancy of SWFL

07:54 08:00

this is something the public and the conservancy has been asking for repeatedly for several months

The Texas-based Dan A Hughes company made the surprise announcement this afternoon -

saying its shutting in the Collier-Hogan site near Immokalee -

where the company was accused of using fracking-like drilling techniques.

The announcement came several hours before the company's deadline to meet a list of demands set by the DEP --

and just minutes before the DEP announced it would be suing the company for its actions at that well.

Hecker

07:25 07:27

We knew today was the deadline and we weren't sure what was going to exactly happen:27 we've been pushing for month that dep should hae revoked that permt:31 and ceased production at that well:33

Dan A Hughes has claimed all along its followed all state laws -

and said the company will vigorously defend itself in this lawsuit.

But many involved in this battle - say all of this has just pointed out those laws need to change.

Georgia Hiller

Collier County Commission

09:40

Our elected officials at the state level did not stay up with the times:45 I mean they haven't developed regulation to control this type of drilling

Collier County Commissioner Georgia Hiller has joined environmentalists -

urging state lawmakers to do more tests and find out if fracking is safe.

And if it is safe, create stricter regulations to keep it that way for all of Florida.

Jennifer Hecker

05:45

we won round one but there's a lot more rounds to this before we can insure that drilling's done in an appropriate manner and only in appropriate locations

Whether it's Dan A Hughes -

or a different oil company.
