FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MORE AM STORMS FOR WEDNESDAY

It was a stormy start to the day across Southwest Florida, but a sun-filled finish with highs in the mid to upper 80s. An isolated shower will be possible this evening inland, otherwise expect dry conditions and temps in the 70s. We'll see overnight lows in the mid 70s.

More storms are expected for Wednesday. Once again, activity will build overnight in the Gulf of Mexico and push onshore in the morning hours. Rain and storms will be likely through much of the morning time frame, with the activity pushing inland in the early afternoon. Highs on Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Another round of morning showers and storms will again be possible on Thursday. The activity will again push inland in the PM hours with highs in the low 90s.

Our winds begin to transition back to the east on Friday, bringing a better chance for storms later in the day. Highs on Friday will be in the low 90s.

The more typical AM sunshine-PM storms routine kicks into high gear for the weekend, with highs both days in the low 90s.

There are some indications that tropical moisture may move in early next week, which would increase the rain and storm chances across Southwest Florida.

TROPICAL UPDATE

It is still nice and quiet across the tropics today. Some forecast models are indicating the atmosphere becoming more conducive for development, but no major development is expected at this point.

No major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

Larry Quartano 140030 all the time. I never win but I play! 4

A LOT OF PEOPLE HOPE TO STRIKE IT RICH WITH ONE LUCKY TICKET- AND WHILE SOME OF THAT REVENUE DOES GO TO EDUCATION- PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CERTAINLY NOT HITTING THE JACKPOT.

Joscelyn Inniss 140242 I would say prob 5%. 2

Larry Quartano 135919 I would hope about 25% at least but I'm not sure. 5

THIRTY PERCENT OF TOTAL REVENUE GOES TO EDUCATION.

BUT THAT INCLUDES COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES AND PROGRAMS.

MEANWHILE 67 PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE LEFT WITH 4-HUNDRED-EIGHTY MILLION… TO SPLIT.

FOR 2015… LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS IS ANTICIPATING A LITTLE MORE THAN 4-MILLION DOLLARS… A FRACTION OF ITS TOTAL BUDGET.

COLLIER COUNTY SCHOOLS HOPE FOR NEARLY 3-MILLION- IN PART TO BUY NEW TEXTBOOKS.

SOME SAY… THIS NUMBERS GAME SHOULD BE PLAYED A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY.

Larry Quartano 135943 30% seems to be a fair amount. I would like to see more like 50%. 5

Joscelyn Inniss 140250 there's a lot of schools that are b schools and c and d schools. I think there's a lot more money that can go to them. 7

BUT AS THOSE LUCKY FEW KNOW- THE LIONS SHARE GOES TO THE WINNERS.

Larry Quartano 140047 I play the lottery, not because I think it's going to go to help education I think it's going to, you know I'm hoping to win something for myself of course! 10

AND THAT ISN'T UP FOR DEBATE ANY TIME SOON.

CYPRESS LAKE PRINCIPAL RESIGNS-PKG

NBC-2 cameras caught Tracy Perkins outside Cypress Lake High School this afternoon.

Her resignation letter. Dated July 14th. Requested she stay in place until August 8th.

So the question everyone's asking. Why is Perkins stepping down after "11" years at the much improved high school?

Perkins said this about her interactions with school leaders in the last year--

"it is evident that your perception of me and-or my leadership has become a hindrance to my school"

Noting that as the primary reason she's offering her resignation from the district.

NBC-2 reached out to the Lee County superintendent. But the school district is not commenting on this personnel matter.

Perkins has not responded to our request for an interview.

The Lee County School Board Vice Chairman Cathleen Morgan released this statement to NBC2, saying--

"I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT THE RESIGNATION OF TRACY PERKINS, PRINCIPAL, CYPRESS LAKE HIGH SCHOOL.

MS. PERKINS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL ASSET TO THE LEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AS AN EDUCATOR AND SCHOOL LEADER." Return to index of stories...
