THEY FOUND AT THE INCREDIBLE FRESH PACKING PLANT IN COLLIER COUNTY.

STILL, IMMIGRATION ADVOCATES LIKE MARIA RODRIGUEZ WITH THE FLORIDA

The question remains-why now? Why all this activity now from the DEP?

IN THIS EMAIL FRIDAY, COUNTY ATTORNEY JEFF KLATZKOW WARNED COUNTY COMMISSIONERS NOT TO BOW OUT OF THEIR PENDING LEGAL FIGHT.

AS WE'VE TOLD YOU RECENTLY THE COUNTY FILED A PETITION.

URGING DEP TO REVOKE THE HUGHES' DRILLING PERMIT AT THIS NORTH COLLIER SITE.

EVEN THOUGH THAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK, KLATZKOW TOLD COMMISSIONERS HE DOESN'T THINK DEP'S ACTIONS WILL STAND UP IN COURT.

COMMISSIONER GEORGIA HILLER, COLLIER COUNTY

24:57-:05

They have essentially put this in front of a judge and now we will have someone who is independent make an informed decision.

KLATZKOW SAYS THAT DECISION MAY NOT HAPPEN UNLESS THE COUNTY WITHDRAWS ITS PETITION.

KAREN

15:30-:33

I wouldn't want to see anyone withdraw their legal challenge.

BUT HE STRONGLY ADVISES AGAINST THAT, AFRAID IT COULD COST THE COUNTY FUTURE COURT CASES ON OIL EXPLORATION.

KAREN

17:33-:39

There might be some skeptics saying this is just the DEP covering themselves and indeed they might just be covering themselves.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

WARM TEMPS TO DOMINATE THE WEEKEND

Warm temperatures and reduced coverage of rain on Saturday highlight the upcoming weekend forecast across Southwest Florida.

On Saturday, a wedge of somewhat drier air will continue to be over the Florida peninsula, cutting back on the coverage of rain across the state. Though an isolated shower or thunderstorm will be remain possible, it appears most backyards in the region will trend to stay on the dry side through Saturday afternoon.

Though the coverage of rain will be below what's seasonal for July in Southwest Florida tomorrow, temperatures will be warmer than what's typical for this time of year. The average high temperature at Fort Myers is 92 degrees for this time of year. On Saturday though, temps at their warmest are expected to be closer to the mid 90s, with expected highs approaching 94 degrees at Fort Myers.

Inland areas of the state could see afternoon temps approach the mid to upper 90s just after lunchtime on Saturday.

On Sunday, we will have a more favorable weather setup to allow conditions yielding late afternoon and early evening sea breeze induced showers and storms. Highs should continue to top out just warmer than average, with temps near 93 degrees.

For the upcoming work week, showers and thunderstorms look likely in the afternoon for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures should max out in the low to mid 90s in the afternoon.

TROPICAL UPDATE

Tropical weather conditions are generally quiet across the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. There are no tropical features in play at this time, and no organization of any tropical activity is expected through the course of the next three to five days. Return to index of stories...
