GOOD MORNING-2SHOT PUSH

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING, EVERYONE.

I'M STACEY DEFFENBAUGH.

AND I'M CLIFTON FRENCH.

IT'S GOING TO BE A HOT, SUNNY DAY IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA --

LET'S HEAD OVER TO NBC2'S METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING WITH A LOOK AT YOUR WEEKEND FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

The heat will be the main focus in our forecast this weekend as rain chances stay in the "isolated" category for a couple of days.

Expect to see just a few isolated storms on the radar through the afternoon and evening, but the overall coverage will stay pretty spotty with rain chances generally below 20%.

Without too much rain around the afternoon to cool us off, temperatures will really have the opportunity to soar.

Daytime highs will be a few degrees above average today with temps climbing into the mid 90s for most of Southwest Florida. A few spots may even get closer to the upper 90s, so be sure to stay well hydrated if you're going to be outside for any length of time.

Temperatures will stay warm through the evening with a mostly clear sky and lows cooling into the mid to upper 70s.

Our atmosphere should become slightly more unstable Sunday, meaning we'll see more in the way of showers and storms during the afternoon and evening, particularly for areas along and east of I-75.

Tropical moisture increases as we head into the upcoming week, so expect to start the week with scattered showers and storms along with more cloud cover.

In the tropics, we're monitoring a few disorganized tropical waves in the open Atlantic, but conditions don't seem favorable enough yet for development in the immediate future. However, we'll need to watch this area a bit more closely toward the end of the month as this region gradually becomes more favorable for tropical development.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

Megan Adams -- bystander

23:46:48 It was just interesting, not something you're going to see everyday 23:46:53

NATS -- boat engine

After sitting submerged in the waters off North Captiva Island for close to two days. the small plane that slammed into the sea while attempting to land on Wednesday. slowly made its way back to dry land.

Kellen Calale -- bystander

23:51:31 It was interesting to watch it. It was kind of sad knowing the outcome of it. 23:51:42

After pulling the plane from the water. a somber procession of Coast Guard and Sea Tow boats began their hours-long trek to a dock in Boaca Grande. attracting many spectators along the way.

Kellen Calale --bystander

23:52:38 Everything looked to be intact, from what I could see. 23:52:42

Linda Watson -- bystander

23:54:35 Its very bittersweet, and thats the reason we were sitting, watching.

For some it was too emotional to watch.

Linda Watson -- bystander

23:54:41 It just brings back memories of Valentine's Day a year ago, when we lost three very good friends in the same type of accident. 23:54:47

Nats -- boat engine/water

After getting the plane ashore. crews drained the engine of any fuel.

Nats -- saws cutting

The one remaining wing -- sawed off. allowing the plane to be hoisted onto a trailer. which then drove it to a secured location just outside of Orlando. That's where investigators from the NTSB will take the plane apart. to find out what caused it to take that tragic dive into the sea.

Megan Adams -- bystander

23:46:04 Its sad, we are very sad for their loss, but its always interesting to see things like this and how they handled it 23:46:12

A process those watching hope will soon lead to answers.

DEP LAWSUIT OIL SHEEN CANAL-trxPKG

AN OILY CANAL IS THE LAST THING COLLIER COUNTY ENVIRONMENTALISTS WANTED TO FIND OUT ABOUT FRIDAY.

Karen Dwyer, Stone Crab Alliance

:13:10-:13

This is exactly what we were worried about from the start, contamination of our water.

IN THESE 60 PAGES OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, THE DEP DESCRIBES THE DISTUBRING DISCOVERY.

IT HAPPENED MONDAY DURING AN INSPECTION AT THIS OIL DRILLING SITE IN NORTHERN COLLIER COUNTY.

AGENCY OFFICIALS SAY THEY FOUND AN UNPERMITTED DUMPSTER.

INSIDE WERE HOSES, BUCKETS, AND PIECES OF LINER COVERED IN OIL.

AND THEY SAY THAT DUMPSTER WAS LEAKING INTO A NEARBY CANAL.

THAT HAS THE CONSERVANCY OF SWFL WORRIED WHERE THE BODY OF WATER LEADS TO.

Jennifer Hecker, Conservancy of SWFL

02:16-:23

That's where we swim and we fish. Eventually these canals meet up with rivers, and bays, and beach areas that people like to recreate in.

WE ASKED FOR PICTURES.

BUT THE DEP SAYS IT CAN'T GIVE THEM TO US BECAUSE THEY'RE PART OF ITS LAWSUIT AGAINST THE DAN A HUGHES COMPANY.

COLLIER COUNTY COMMISSIONER GEORGIA HILLER DOESN'T AGREE.

28:44-:46

ME- It's a matter of public safety.

Hiller-

And it's a matter of public record.

BUTT TO

26:51-:56

The people have a right to see it, so if they have photographs I think we should have a right to see those.

BESIDES KICKING HUGHES OUT OF FLORIDA, THE STATE WANTS THE COMPANY TO PAY MORE THAN 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CIVIL PENALTIES.

HUGHES OFFICIALS STILL MAINTAIN THEY'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG.

ULTIMATELY THAT WILL BE UP TO A JUDGE TO DECIDE.

KAREN

17:33-:39

There might be some skeptics saying this is just the DEP covering themselves and indeed they might just be covering themselves.

IN COLLIER COUNTY, BRYAN ANDERSON, NBC2. Return to index of stories...

PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS APPROVED THE USE OF UNDERWATER BLASTS OF SOUND TO PINPOINT OIL AND GAS DEPOSITS.

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. - The Obama administration has sided with energy developers over environmentalists, approving the use of underwater blasts of sound to pinpoint oil and gas deposits in federal Atlantic Ocean waters. The regulatory decision is the first real step toward what could be an economic transformation in East Coast states, potentially creating a new energy infrastructure, thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in tax revenue.
