FORECAST-WXWALL

Another hot, humid afternoon is in store for Southwest Florida. Temperatures will warm into the lower 90s, but the heat index will soar back to near 100 degrees. We'll continue to see some sunshine through the lunch hour, with only a few widely isolated showers scraping along some of the immediate coastline.

Then as the sea breeze comes in this afternoon, we'll pick up a few showers and storms. There is drier air working its way into Southwest Florida in the mid and upper levels of our atmosphere, and that will help to cut back on the overall coverage of rain..

By late this afternoon, the majority of the showers and storms should mainly appear in the inland areas of the state.

Then for Friday through the weekend and the start of next week coverage will be even lower, with only isolated afternoon storms expected.

Highs will stay in the lower 90s and lows will be in the mid to upper 70s for the next 7 days.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

MARKETS CONTINUE HIGHER TODAY WITH THE S&P 500 HITTING AN ALL-TIME HIGH AGAIN.

EVEN AS INVESTOR CONFIDENCE STRENGTHENS AND MARKETS CONTINUE CHARGING HIGHER, MANY INVESTORS ARE UNABLE TO CAPITALIZE ON RECENT MARKETS GAINS.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO TALK ABOUT FOUR MISTAKES INVESTORS ARE MAKING RIGHT NOW.

NICK? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

This market has been relentless…to the upside. And things have been going very well for you all out there that have owned stocks in the last several years. You've seen the numbers on your monthly statements generally go up for the past four or five years. On the other hand, there are a lot of you out there whose memories of the recent great recession are still pretty fresh and you don't own as much stock as you probably should.

· And this is perhaps the number one mistake many investors are making right now. It's either not investing in stocks at all or having too little exposure to equities for their investment objective and time horizon. And although hindsight is 20/20, the market is now up over 180% since the market lows set back in March of 2009. These past five years have represented one of the greatest opportunities to build wealth in the stock market in the recent past and perhaps our lifetime. The bottom line is that stocks have been the asset the choice in the last several years. And that's because the economy has been generally improving and corporate earnings have been increasing. Additionally, cash pays very little to no return and bonds offer very little to no opportunity for capital appreciation in the near to moderate term as low as interest rates are right now. That being said, review your asset allocation to ensure you have the right exposure to stocks.

· The second biggest mistake investors are making right now is chasing yields. In an interest rate environment where the average 1 year CD is paying maybe one half of one percent, investors are purchasing 'seemingly' safer investments like long term bonds and junk bonds that pay a higher interest rate. It's true that you can buy a long term bond with a five or six percent coupon or perhaps a junk bond with a seven or eight percent yield, but at what cost? The problem is that long term bonds aren't necessary safe investments if you don't intend on holding them to maturity. And that's because as interest rates rise, the value of your long term bonds will likely fall. And when you invest in junk bonds, you are investing in lower-than-investment grade bonds with default rates that are historically higher than investment grade bonds. So think twice before jumping into long term bonds and junk bonds and weight the benefit of a higher yield with the potential risks of losing principal in these types of investments.

· The third mistake you can make is thinking short-term. What worked in the market six months ago or two years ago isn't necessarily what's going to propel your investment account upward and strengthen your overall financial plan moving forward. The foundation of your investment strategy should be based first on your long term goals. These goals along with your time horizon and risk tolerance will dictate the asset allocation of your investments or percentage of stocks and bonds you will own in your accounts. Maintaining a focus on your long-term goals and reviewing your investments frequently will most likely yield the best financial outcome in the long run.

· The last mistake many are making right now is forgetting about the destructive power of inflation on their hard-earned dollars. Although inflation has been subdued now for several years and interest rates are still at historic lows, the US economy is picking up steam and gaining some traction and this will likely lead to higher inflation at which point the Federal Reserve will begin to raise interest rates. When this begins to happen, it's likely that the bonds will lose value. Rising inflation will eat away at fixed-income returns. Over time, stocks are the best protection against inflation.

· Make sure you are addressing these four topics with your financial advisor to strengthen your investment strategy and overall financial plan to help you achieve your long-term goals. Return to index of stories...

THERE'S A SIMPLE CLUE THAT CAN HELP DETECT PARKINSON'S DISEASE IN THE EARLY STAGES, LONG BEFORE OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS APPEAR.

A NEUROLOGICAL MOVEMENT DISORDER- PARKINSON'S DISEASE GETS WORSE OVER TIME. THE EARLIEST SYMPTOMS ARE SOMETIMES OVERLOOKED, WHEN MANY TIMES, THE WRITING WAS ON THE WALL.

NATHALIE GRONDIN/PHYSICAL THERAPIST

RUNS:

1:25: The early indicators could be changes in facial expression, where they call it a mood face or mast face. Changes in handwriting. Very small and shaky handwriting that's often how it can be picked up.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Micrographia is the medical term for small handwriting. People with Parkinson's disease may start forming normal-sized letters, but as they continue, the font gets smaller and cramped. That's why a standard evaluation looks to see what your handwriting reveals.

FROM DEMO

NATHALIE GRONDIN/PHYSICAL THERAPIST

RUNS:

:31 I would say go ahead write your names three times in a row. Typically what happens is the first time they might do OK but with repetition it might get smaller.

THE UNIFIED PARKINSON'S DISEASE RATING SCALE SCORES SEVERAL SKILLS- INCLUDING WRITING-

FROM DEMO

NATHALIE GRONDIN/PHYSICAL THERAPIST

RUNS:

:10 We score 0-4 whether the handwriting is normal, slightly slow or small. Moderately slow or small but the words are legible. Then the three would be severely affected, not all the words are legible. And majority of the words are not legible would be a four.

MAKING WRITING EVEN MORE TRICKY ARE TREMORS, WHICH ALSO GO HAND-IN-HAND WITH PARKINSON'S.

NATHALIE GRONDIN/PHYSICAL THERAPIST

RUNS:

:41 A lot of times Parkinson's will manifest itself with a tremor. There's a very specific type of tremor they call it a pill-rolling tremor. It typically will start in one hand.

EXERCISE AND TARGETED THERAPIES CAN SLOW PROGRESSION AND INCREASE WELLBEING. AND READING THE EARLY WARNING SIGNS GIVES PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON'S MORE OPTIONS. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Return to index of stories...
