FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

If you've been in Lee County today, it's been quite the soggy and stormy start to our Monday thanks to a train of tropical downpours that moved in from the Gulf of Mexico.

For those of us across Charlotte and Collier County, it's a different story; we've seen plenty of sunshine along with temperatures in the low to mid 90s.

Now that the rain has faded across Lee County, most of us will be in store for a mainly dry and sunny afternoon. A few stray downpours will be possible, but these should be few and far between.

The evening hours and overnight should be pretty quiet with only a couple spots of rain drifting in from the Gulf.

By Tuesday morning, we'll keep the door open for another round of isolated morning showers or even a thunderstorm, and a few of these downpours may linger into the afternoon on Tuesday.

Aside from a few passing downpours, expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with temperatures warming into the low to mid 90s.

We'll another uptick in rain chances by Wednesday as more moisture builds in from the north, and with our winds coming in from the Gulf, rain will be possible during the morning hours as well.

We continue with scattered rain and storms in our forecast from Thursday into the weekend, but the weekend activity likely won't affect us until the afternoon and evening.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We're tracking a tropical wave in the central Atlantic that's been becoming better organized over the last couple of days.

It's a good possibility that this feature will develop into a tropical depression or perhaps a tropical storm by the middle of the week.

The track through the end of the week will be west, taking this feature toward the Windward Islands by the weekend.

Most forecast models suggest this storm eventually recurve to the north by next week, but it's still too soon to know for sure. We'll continue tracking this tropical wave throughout the week in the NBC 2 First Alert Hurricane Tracker Center. Return to index of stories...

PATSY MACIEL DEEPLY CHERISHES THE FLAG THAT WAS DRAPED OVER HER SON'S COFFIN. AFTER HE WAS KILLED 9 YEARS AGO IN A HELICOPTER CRASH. IN IRAQ.

NOW. COMES NEWS OF A DIFFERENT FLAG. ONE SHE NEVER KNEW EXISTED.

"That's all I can think of right now. I can't think of anything else."

THIS TATTERED TREASURE IS WHAT ANOTHER FAMILY FOUND. BURIED IN A STACK OF FLAGS. AT A FLEA MARKET IN TEXAS. SOME 4 HOURS AWAY.

S/Lanie Brown/ Recovered Marine's tribute flag:36-:40

"And we didn't know what it was, but we knew that we had to take it home with us."

LANIE BROWN SAYS. BECAUSE IT WAS COVERED IN writing from a BLACK MARKER. THEY GOT IT FOR ONLY 5 BUCKS.

WHEN THEY SHOWED IT TO THEIR SON, A MARINE. HE TOLD THEM IT'S A TRIBUTE FLAG FOR A FALLEN SOLDIER. SIGNED BY EVERYONE IN HIS UNIT.

THE RECIPIENT: LANCE CORPORAL FRED MACIEL.

"It's priceless, yeah, it's priceless. We'd have given her 100-dollar bill if she had asked for it."

IT'S A MYSTERY HOW THIS PERSONAL PIECE OF RED, WHITE AND BLUE ENDED UP WHERE IT DID.

BUT USING FACEBOOK. THE BROWNS WERE ABLE TO TRACK DOWN PATSY.

" I can't wait to meet 'em, I can't wait."

RATHER THAN MAIL THE FLAG. THEY DECIDED TO MEET IN PERSON SATURDAY. AT THE CEMETERY WHERE MACIEL IS NOW BURIED.

"It's a piece of my son coming back to me. You know, it feels great. And I love them for that."

TWO MARINE MOMS. NOW BOUND BY ONE PRICELESS FLAG.

NISSAN IS RECALLING AN ADDITIONAL 226-THOUSAND VEHICLES BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS.

THIS RECALL. COMBINED WITH AN EARLIER RECALL. BRINGS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VEHICLES RECALLED BY NISSAN TO MORE THAN 660-THOUSAND.

THE RECALL AFFECTS MODELS INCLUDING INFINITI, MAXIMA, PATHFINDER AND SENTRA MODELS FOR THE MODEL YEARS 2002 TO 2004.

THE PROBLEM. IS THAT THE AIRBAG'S INFLATOR CAN RUPTURE. CAUSING METAL PARTS TO FLY OUT IF THE AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED. Return to index of stories...

FREEON CHARGE-ONCAM

NO DOUBT YOUR AIR CONDITIONER IS BEING PUT TO THE TEST IN THIS SUMMER HEAT.

YOU MIGHT EVEN NEED A MID-SUMMER TUNE-UP.

BUT THERE'S SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AIR CONDITIONING BEFORE YOU MAKE A CALL FOR REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT.

DETAILS FROM NBC'S CHRIS CLACKUM. Return to index of stories...

FREEON CHARGE-PKG

WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING REPAIRMAN SHOWS UP. BRACE YOURSELF FOR THE BILL.EVEN IF IT'S JUST TO REPLACE THE FREON.

"We saw areas of the country where it was as low as $40 a pound all the up to $125 a pound."

ANGIE'S LIST FOUNDER ANGIE HICKS. JUST COMPLETED SOME RESEARCH ON AIR CONDITIONERS, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT R-22 FREON IS BEING PHASED OUT.

"This process started in 2004 and it will be completely banned by 2020."

IT'LL BE REPLACED BY A NEW, MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY REFRIGERANT CALLED R-410A.

BUT WHAT TO DO IF YOUR R-22 AIR CONDITIONER CONKS OFF RIGHT NOW?REPAIR OR REPLACE IT?

ANGIE SAYS.USE THE RULE OF FIVE-THOUSAND.

"If you find out how much the repair is going to be and the number of years old your air conditioner is, if the two multiplied together add up to more than $5,000, you should go ahead and replace your unit"

SO IT'S CHEAPER TO REPLACE AN 8-YEAR OLD UNIT.NEEDING $2,000 IN REPAIR.

BUT THE AVERAGE AIR CONDITIONER SHOULD LAST ABOUT 16 YEARS. AND THE NEWER ONES ARE ALREADY EQUIPPED TO RUN ON THE NEWER REFRIGERANT.

YOU'VE PROBABLY NEVER GIVEN YOUR THYROID A SECOND THOUGHT.

THAT IS UNLESS IT BECOMES PROBLEMATIC.

MILLIONS OF AMERICANS SUFFER FROM AN OVERACTIVE THYROID. THE MOST COMMON DISORDER AFFECTING WOMEN.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS. AMY OSHIER REPORTS ON 'A GRAVE CONCERN' Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

GRAVE'S DISEASE- IT MAY BE ONE OF THE MOST COMMON DISEASES YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF. FOR YOUNG WOMEN IN PARTICULAR IT CAN BE A GRAVE CONCERN.

DR. HEITHAM AJLOUNI/ENDOCRINOLOGIST

RUNS:

3:39 Graves' Disease is one of the most common disease in females. So the ratio from male to female is like 8 females/1 male. And usually it affects young around the age of 20.

AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE THE BODY ATTACKS ITSELF. IN GRAVE'S THE THYROID GLAND OVER-PRODUCES HORMONES THAT IMPACT METABOLISM.

DR. HEITHAM AJLOUNI/ENDOCRINOLOGIST

RUNS:

2:38 You will start losing weight regardless of your appetite. The other thing you have is fast heartbeat. You have changes of your hair and skin. You will have heat intolerance, excess of sweating. Graves' Disease affect the eye, so their eyeball will protrude.

PATIENTS ARE QUICK TO REALIZE SOMETHING'S WRONG. IF IT'S NOT TREATED, THE DISEASE CAN HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.

DR. HEITHAM AJLOUNI/ENDOCRINOLOGIST

RUNS:

4:11 One of the most important thing it affects- the heart. When you have palpitations you are prone to something called arrhythmias. And this is life-threatening. If you are not treated, it will affect your bones. They are more prone to osteoporosis.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

7:25 There are two fundamental ways to treat Graves' Disease. One is taking medications to regulate hormones. It requires frequent checkups to manage dosing. The other option is to remove or disable the thyroid. By surgery, or what is more common today, taking radioactive iodine.

DR. HEITHAM AJLOUNI/ENDOCRINOLOGIST

RUNS:

6:22 We are giving a dose of radioactive iodine that will shut down your thyroid and you will end up having hypothyroid, under-active thyroid. And you will be taking levothyroxine for the rest of your life. It doesn't have a lot of side effects. It's easy to control, less frequent visits to your doctors, less frequent blood tests, and if you want to conceive, it's easier to control while pregnant.

A GRAVES' DIAGNOSIS MEANS A LIFETIME OF MEDICAL MANAGEMENT- BUT IN MANAGING HORMONES, WOMEN CAN FIND BALANCE IN THEIR LIVES. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

Well just a reaction. you see someone get beat up, you just go out.

MAYURA RAN OUTSIDE AND BEFORE THE TWO ROBBERS EVEN SAW HIM.

The first guy I saw, I just kicked him in the face. then I punched the other guy.

WATCH IT AGAIN MAYURA'S CO-WORKER IS ON THE GROUND. TAKING A BEATING WHEN MAYURA'S FIRST KICK CATCHES ONE OF THE CROOKS IN THE FACE.

MAYURA!!

They were waiting for them, but when they were running back, I caught one guy with a hook, so he fell down. so they just left him.

TAKE A LOOK. ONE OF THE ROBBERS WANTS TO GO BACK FOR HIS ACCOMPLICE AND FRIEND BUT DECIDES AGAINST IT WHEN MAYURA MOVES TOWARDS HIM.

IN THE END THEY LEFT THE GUY AND JUST AS HE DOES IN THE RING MAYURA PUT HIM IN SUBMISSION WHILE HE WAITED FOR POLICE.

Just kicked him until he lays down on the floor until he stopped moving cause I wasn't sure if he had like a knife or a gun so I wanted him to stop moving.
