PASSING AM DOWNPOURS

Our Tuesday morning starts with a few isolated showers already moving ashore. We will keep the opportunity for passing downpours to move ashore through the morning and midday time frame. A few storms may linger into the afternoon, most of which will be inland.

Aside from a few passing downpours, expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with temperatures warming into the low to mid 90s. Heat index values will reach to near 100 degees this afternoon, so be sure the take breaks and drink plenty of water if you plan to be outside for any length of time today.

We'll see another uptick in rain chances by Wednesday as more moisture builds in from the north, and with our winds coming in from the Gulf, rain will be possible during the morning hours as well.

We continue with scattered rain and storms in our forecast from Thursday into the weekend, but the weekend activity likely won't affect us until the afternoon and evening.

Highs will stay in the lower 90s and lows in the mid and upper 70s through the next 7 days.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We're tracking a tropical wave in the central Atlantic that's been becoming better organized over the last couple of days.

It's a good possibility that this feature will develop into a tropical depression or perhaps even a tropical storm by the middle of the week. The National Hurricane Center has pegged the wave with a 70% chance of development in the next two days and 80% in the next five.

The track through the end of the week will be west, taking this feature toward the Windward Islands by the weekend.

Most forecast models suggest this storm eventually curve to the north by next week, but it's still too soon to know for sure. We'll continue tracking this tropical wave throughout the week in the NBC 2 First Alert Hurricane Tracker Center. Return to index of stories...

CHARLES MOZDIR: THE SUSPECT IN A SEX ASSAULT IN CALIFORNIA AND A FUGITIVE FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS.

"This guy is alleged to have molested his college roommate's son."

"He was the guy that everybody trusted, the family trusted so much to take care of this little boy."

JUST OVER A WEEK AGO, MOZDIR WAS PROFILED ON C-N-N's "THE HUNT" WITH JOHN WALSH.

INVESTIGATORS SAY A CALL DURING THE SHOW PROVIDED THEIR FIRST STRONG LEAD SINCE 2012.

"Once our law enforcement resources had been exhausted, the public through the show was able to be our most viable resource out there and our eyes and ears."

ANOTHER TIP AFTER THE SHOW'S RE-BROADCAST ON SUNDAY, AND POLICE WERE ABLE TO TRACK MOZDIR DOWN IN NEW YORK -- WORKING AT A SMOKE SHOP IN MANHATTAN.

A NEW YORK POLICE DETECTIVE AND TWO U-S MARSHALS STEPPED INSIDE, AND THEY SAY THE GUN BATTLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY.

"Mozdir fired upon the officers at very close range, and the officers returned fire. The exchange of gunfire.during the exchange of gunfire the detective and two marshals were wounded."

ALONG WITH A.32-CALIBER REVOLVER, POLICE SAY MOZDIR HAD A POCKET FULL OF AMMUNITION -- ABOUT 20 EXTRA ROUNDS.

ONE OF THE ROUNDS HE FIRED WAS PULLED FROM THE DETECTIVE'S VEST, WHICH OFFICIALS SAY LIKELY SAVED HIS LIFE.

CALIFORNIA POLICE SPOKE TO THE VICTIM'S MOTHER AFTER MOZDIR WAS SHOT DEAD.

".and she told me, she felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. took breath, took a deep breath, a sigh of relief, and was content that she can have some closure in her case, and that in her eyes, that justice was served."

MOM ARRESTED FOR LETTING CHILD WALK TO PARK-PKG

I'm totally dumbfounded by this whole situation.

IT ALL BEGAN LAST SATURDAY AFTERNOON, NICOLE GAINEY GAVE HER SON DOMINIC PERMISSION TO WALK FROM THEIR HOUSE TO SPORTSMAN PARK.

I honestly didn't think I was doing anything wrong, I was letting him go play.

- IT'S A HALF MILE FROM THEIR PORT ST. LUCIE HOME.

10, 15 minutes.

ALONG THE WAY THE 7-YEAR-OLD PASSED THIS PUBLIC POOL. SOMEONE THERE ASKED HIM WHERE HIS MOM WAS.

They asked me a couple questions and I got scared so I ran off to the park and then they called the cops.

DOMINIC WAS PLAYING WHEN PORT ST. LUCIE POLICE PULLED UP.

They said where does your mom live?

POLICE TOOK HIM HOME AND THAT'S WHEN HIS MOM WAS ARRESTED, CHARGED WITH CHILD NEGLECT. GAINEY SAYS SHE WAS SHOCKED.

My own bondsman said my parents would have been in jail every day.

THE OFFICER WROTE IN THE REPORT THAT DOMINIC WAS UNSUPERVISED AT THE PARK AND THAT QUOTE - NUMEROUS SEX OFFENDERS RESIDE IN THE VICINITY.

He just basically kept going over that there's pedophiles.

BUT GAINEY SAYS SHE BELIEVES DOMINIC IS MATURE ENOUGH TO GO TO THE PARK ALONE DURING THE DAY. SHE ADDS HE ALWAYS HAS A CELL PHONE.

WHICH SHE CALLS TO CHECK ON HIM.

That I'm here and safe.

GAINEY PLANS TO FIGHT THE FELONY CHARGE. BUT AFTER THIS, SHE WON'T LET DOMINIC GO TO THE PARK ALONE, SHE'S AFRAID SHE'LL BE ARRESTED AGAIN. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

IS ULTRA HD WORTH IT-ON CAM

IT'S THE LATEST AND GREATEST IN T-V TECHNOLOGY, BUT WHAT CAN AN ULTRA H-D T-V DO THAT YOUR EXISITING SET CANNOT?

AND IS IT WORTH IT TO PURCHASE ONE NOW?

KARIN CAIFA GETS SOME INSIGHT IN TODAY'S CONSUMER WATCH. Return to index of stories...

IS ULTRA HD WORTH IT-PKG

SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO HAVE THE LATEST IN TELEVISION TECHNOLOGY.

THE NEWEST T-V'S ON THE MARKET -- ULTRA-HIGH DEFINITION T-V'S -- OR U-H-D T-V'S. THEY HAVE HIGHER SCREEN RESOLUTION THAN CURRENT HIGH DEF SCREENS, AND ARE ALSO KNOWN AS "4-K" SETS.

"The screens have more pixels. And what that really translates into is better picture detail. So detail is only one of a number of things that a T-V has to do right. But it does mean that you can probably sit closer to a very big T-V than you could to a regular 1080-p T-V."

CONSUMER REPORTS DESCRIBES THE CHANGE AS INCREMENTAL, NOT NEARLY AS DRAMATIC AS WHEN T-V'S MOVED FROM STANDARD DEFINITION TO HIGH DEFINTION. IT MAY EVEN BE DIFFICULT FOR SOME VIEWERS TO DETECT THE DIFFERENCES ON SCREENS SMALLER THAN A MASSIVE 84 INCHES.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE UPGRADE, CONSUMER REPORTS SAYS IT'S PROBABLY BEST TO WAIT. DEPENDING ON SCREEN SIZE, THE LATEST UHD SETS COST ANYWHERE BETWEEN $2000 TO $10,000.

"We say to wait. This is an industry that tends to reward procrastinators anyway. And so we know that prices are going to fall, and so really the only people that should be considering them right now, are people who just have tons of disposable income, or those people whose TV's are broken and they want to future-proof their purchase."

ALSO, CONTENT THAT TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE NEW FORMAT ISN'T REALLY PLENTIFUL RIGHT NOW -- BUT SHOULD BE, BY NEXT YEAR.

1:09 We have such an epidemic of weight problems and chronic disease with diabetes

HEALTH STAT MIGHT STOP YOU IN YOUR TRACKS:

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

4:17 The Heart Association recommendation is 10,000 steps a day for most people that

are you know physically fit. So when you think about that, that is a lot of walking, it's five

miles a day.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

In the normal course of a day- living and working- people take between 9-hundred and

3-thousand steps. Making it nearly impossible to get to the 10,000 milestone- without

intentional effort.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

4:28 Make every excuse to do something physical during the day. Just walk the halls

instead of sitting behind your desk on a conference call. A lot of people are doing some

other interesting things like doing 'walking meetings'. So instead of sitting down they

have everybody walk.

STEPPING AWAY FROM ROUTINES IS THE KEY FOR REBECCA.

REBECCA COLUMBUS/WALKER

RUNS:

:57 I work on the second floor so I go up and down the stairs. I make a point of you know

instead of calling somebody downstairs, I get up and I walk down.

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME AROUND THE BLOCK, DON'T PUSH FOR THE 10,000. USE

A STEP TRACKER TO SEE HOW YOU DO ON DIFFERENT DAYS. TAKE YOUR HIGHEST

DAILY TOTAL AND MAKE IT YOUR GOAL FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

5:17 People that have a sedentary job and a sedentary life actually live a decreased

number of years. So being sedentary is a significant health risk.
