LIVE/ STEVE HANDELSMAN / WASHINGTON, DC

DESPITE THE SURGE OF CENTRAL AMERICA KIDS.

STRAINING LAW ENFORCEMENT

AND SWAMPING DETENTION CENTERS

THERE'S NO FIX PRESIDENT OBAMA CAN SIGN AND HE BLAMED THE GOP

sot: President Obama :12-:21

"House republicans as we speak are trying to pass the most extreme and unworkable version of the bill that they know is going nowhere"

THE DAY BEFORE THEIR SUMMER BREAK, DIVIDED HOUSE REPUBLICANS DID COME TOGETHER

WITH TWO GOALS.

sot: Rep. Marsha Blackburn :26-:29

"number one: secure the border"

THEY'D SEND IN MORE NATIONAL GUARD

AND BLOCK PRESIDENT OBAMA FROM ORDERING THAT MORE MIGRANT CHILDREN CAN STAY IN THE U-S

sot: Rep. Michele Bachmann :37-:43

"if you think you're gonna legalize 5 to 6 million illegal foreign nationals, we say no"

BUT THE GOP PLAN WOULD END THE KIDS' RIGHT TO AN ASYLUM HEARING, ENRAGING DEMOCRATS

CONCERNED ABOUT CENTRAL AMERICAN VIOLENCE

sot: Rep. Tony Cardenas :51-:55

"the republicans want to indiscriminately return children to their death"

Sot: Rep. Joe Garcia :56-:1:01

"strip away rights from children is unacceptable!!! It's un-American!"

THE OBAMA PLAN.TO SPEED UP ASYLUM HEARINGS, NOT END THEM.

WHICH IS THE SENATE PLAN. IS SO DIFFERENT FROM THE GOP HOUSE PLAN.

NEITHER CAN BECOME LAW. NOTE DEMOCRATS:

sot: Rep. Steny Hoyer 1:12-1:15

"what we do today will be useless!

BUT IT'S A SHOW OF REPUBLICAN UNITY AND PURPOSE

sot: Josh Gerstein, politico 1:19-1:26

"that its better to be able to say that you did something than that you did nothing and this way they can shift the blame back to the senate and president Obama"

THE BLAME FOR WHAT EVERY ONE AGREES IS A CRISIS.

AND NOW A CRISIS THAT WON'T HAVE CONGRESSIONAL ACTION TO FIX IT TIL SEPTEMBER AT THE EARLIEST

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

INCREASING RAIN CHANCES FOR THE WEEKEND

Scattered showers and storms again developed in parts of the area Friday, with more activity possible in the evening hours. Temps this evening will fall into the 80s. The activity should again dissipate overnight, with lows in the mid 70s.

More moisture works into the region from the east Saturday, resulting in better rain and storm chances. Much of the morning time frame looks OK, but by afternoon scattered showers and storms will be developing. The coverage of this activity will likely be greater than the past few days. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 90s.

Even more moisture moves in on Sunday, with PM rain and storms now looking likely. The best chance for activity will be in the afternoon and early evening hours. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 90s.

The increased moisture lingers into Monday as well, with scattered PM showers and storms again developing.

Drier air does work in by midweek, bringing rain and storm chances to more seasonal levels, with highs holding in the low 90s.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We're still keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Bertha. Bertha is still a healthy tropical storm, with sustained winds of 50 mph.

The system will roll across the Lesser Antilles tonight and then take aim at Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic over the weekend.

All the forecast guidance is still indicating that Bertha will swing northwestward toward the Bahamas and away from Florida early next week.

Elsewhere, no major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

NOW THOSE MACHINES ARE GONE- TAKEN YESTERDAY DURING A RAID BY THE DIVISION OF ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO.
