Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Happy First Day of August

A pretty typical summer pattern can be expected in Southwest Florida on this first day of August. Temperatures climb quickly this afternoon, topping out near normal, in the low 90s area wide. Warmer temperatures again will be farther inland Friday afternoon. With ample moisture present through the day, Heat Indices will be very hot once again. It's going to feel like 100°+ through the afternoon so be be sure to drink plenty of fluids if you plan to spend prolonged time outdoors.

Light surface winds will allow the sea breeze to get going early in the afternoon. Expect scattered showers across the region Friday. With light southeast steering winds in place, storms that get going will be slow moving. Isolated heavy downpours will be likely in some spots. Frequent cloud to ground lightning will be present as well.

Things quiet down into the overnight with shower activity wrapping by midnight. Overnight lows heading into Saturday will be in the mid-70s. A coastal shower or two will be possible as well. Return to index of stories...

IN A SCRAMBLE TO GET OUT OF TOWN, CONGRESS GOT TWO THINGS DONE.

THEY ALSO PASSED A BILL THAT ALLOWS THE V-A TO HIRE MORE WORKERS, OPEN MORE CLINICS. AND PAY FOR VETS WHO SEEK OUTSIDE CARE.

Vermont:27-:33

"It is absolutely imperative that we don't make veteran's into political pawns."

BUT THERE'S A BIG RIFT ON HOW MUCH TO GIVE PRESIDENT OBAMA TO DEAL WITH THE UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN CROSSING THE BORDER.

Ohio:41-:52

"The President says 'Give me three-point-seven million dollars but don't do anyting to address problem on the border.' I think that is totally irresponsible."

LAWMAKERS DISAGREE ON WHETHER TO ROLL BACK A 2008 LAW THAT DEFERS DEPORTATIONS.

Texas 1:00-1:09

"Children who came here seeking refuge in this country deserve a fair adjudication not to be met with the barrel of a gun and a one way ticket back."

Oklahoma 1:10-1:17

"Sends the message that this administration has been unwilling to send: that if you come here illegally you will be deported."

CONGRESS IS BACK TODAY. HOPING TO REACH A LAST-MINUTE COMPROMISE.
