FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

RAIN LIKELY ON MONDAY

Scattered storms will continue rumbling across Southwest Florida this evening.

Overnight temperatures will range from the upper 70s to near 80 degrees along the immediate coastline, to mid and low 70s for neighborhoods east of the I-75 corridor.

For Monday, we will be experiencing and onshore component to the wind flow. What that means is the wind will be coming from the Gulf of Mexico and moving toward land. When we are in this type of weather setup, it is likely we'll see scattered showers and downpours wash onshore from the Gulf on Monday morning.

Oftentimes these showers moving onshore in the morning from the Gulf of Mexico have difficulty maintaining their strength as the move over land, so the opportunity for showers on Monday morning will be greatest for areas along and west of the I-75 corridor toward the coast. Keep in mind as this rain is likely in the morning, you could encounter a shower or two on your commute to work Monday morning.

By Monday afternoon we'll be expecting scattered storms to develop once again. With more clouds in the sky and a few showers possible in the morning temperatures should top out in the upper 80s along the Gulfshore. High temperatures elsewhere around the region are expected to hit 91 Fort Myers, 92 at Port Charlotte and 89 at Naples.

At this time it appears there will be an onshore component to the wind on Tuesday as well. That again means a shower could pop up along the coast before lunch, before storms develop in the afternoon mainly east of the I-75 corridor.

TROPICAL UPDATE

The Bahamian government will have tropical storm warning active for the southeastern section of the islands today.

It appears that by Tuesday the storm could reach hurricane strength.

It continues to show no direct threat or impact to our weather in Southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...

ISRAEL GAZA FIGHTING-PKG

ISRAEL HAS BEGUN TO PULL OUT LARGE AMOUNTS OF ITS INVASION ARMY FROM GAZA BACK INTO ISRAEL, BUT THE MILITARY SAYS THEY'RE GOING TO BE LEAVING A LINE OF DEFENSE ALONG THE BORDER, SOME TROOPS IN GAZA, SOME TROOPS INSIDE ISRAEL, READY TO RESPOND TO ANY INCREASED FIGHTING.

NOW IN THE NORTH OF GAZA, ISRAEL HAS TOLD RESIDENTS FROM THE TOWN OF BEIT LAHIYA AND OTHER TOWNS WHICH SAY THE BRUNT OF THE EARLY FIGHTING, ISRAEL HAS TOLD THEM IT'S SAFE TO GO HOME AND THAT'S ONE AREA WHERE THE ISRAELI ARMY IS PULLING OUT.

THERE'S BEEN HEAVY FIGHTING IN THE SOUTH THOUGH, ESPECIALLY AROUND THE TOWN OF RAFAH, WHICH IS WHERE THE ISRAELI SOLDIER WAS TAKEN BY HAMAS FIGHTERS.

ISRAEL HAS CONFIRMED THAT HE IS DEAD, HIS FAMILY IS BURYING HIM THIS EVENING IN THE SUBURB OF TEL AVIV.

NOW CEASEFIRE TALKS WHICH ARE BEGINNING IN CAIRO, WITH HAMAS, WITH OTHER ISLAMIC ORGANIZATIONS, WITH PALESTINIANS OF THE WEST BANK, WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ARAB COUNTRIES OF EGYPT, THAT'S ALL TAKING PLACE WITHOUT ISRAEL.

ISRAEL HAS REFUSED TO SEND NEGOTIATORS TO CAIRO, THEY SAY THAT HAMAS HAS BROKEN FIVE CEASEFIRES, THERE'S NO POINT TALKING TO THEM ANY FURTHER.

NOW THAT LEAVES A VERY MESSY END, IF THIS INDEED IS AN END, TO ISRAEL'S INVASION OF GAZA.

FIGHTING COULD RESUME AT ANY MOMENT.

ONE SIGNIFICANT ADDITION TO THE DIFFICULTIES OF THE REGION IS.

.ISRAEL SAYS WITHOUT ANY AGREEMENT WITH HAMAS TO STOP FIRING ROCKETS INSIDE ISRAEL, WHICH WAS PART OF THE PREVIOUS AGREEMENT, ISRAEL SAYS IT WILL RESUME ITS POLICY OF ATTEMPTING TO ASSASSINATE HAMAS LEADERS.
