AFGHAN SHOOTING-PKG

IT HAPPENED AT THIS MILITARY TRAINING ACADEMY OUTSIDE KABUL, THE U-S MAJOR GENERAL.WHOSE NAME WAS WITHHELD WHILE HIS FAMILY WAS NOTIFIED. WAS ON A ROUTINE VISIT WHEN, WITNESSES SAY, A LONE AFGHAN SOLDIER IN UNIFORM OPENED FIRE WITH HIS ASSAULT RIFLE. THE U-S GENERAL DIED, A GERMAN GENERAL AND MORE THAN A DOZEN U-S AND COALITION TROOPS WERE WOUNDED, AND THE GUNMAN WAS KILLED.

Sot: Josh Earnest, White House Press Secretary

"this shooting is, of course a painful reminder of the service and sacrifice that our men and women in uniform make every day."

THE LAST TIME A TWO STAR U-S GENERAL DIED IN COMBAT WAS VIETNAM.

IN AFGHANISTAN, SO CALLED INSIDER ATTACKS KILLED 53 COALITION TROOPS IN 2012. NEW SAFETY PROCEDURES WERE PUT IN PLACE, AND THE NUMBER DROPPED TO 16 LAST YEAR,

BUT NOW A GENERAL IS DEAD.

Sot: John Kirby, Pentagon Press Secretary

"it's a pernicious threat"

MEANING DAMAGING, BUT THE PENTAGON SPOKESMAN DENIED THAT INSIDER ATTACKS

WILL AFFECT THE HANDOFF OF COMBAT LEADERSHIP IN AFGHANISTAN BY DECEMBER.

Sot: John Kirby, Pentagon Press Secretary

"no indication that there is degradation of trust between coalition members and their afghan counterparts"

PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS ORDERED 10 THOUSAND U-S TROOPS TO STAY AND HELP AFTER MOST U-S FORCES LEAVE. SHOULD TODAY'S TRAGEDY CHANGE THAT PLAN?

Sot: Sen. Robert Menendez

"we have shed a lot of lives and national treasure in Afghanistan and we want to see the successful conclusion"

MORE THAN 22 HUNDRED U-S SERVICEMEMBERS HAVE DIED IN THAT WARZONE.

TODAY AT LEAST ONE MORE.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

ONSHORE WIND PATTERN CONTINUES

Onshore wind from the west and southwest will continue to push in scattered showers from the Gulf of Mexico through this morning and early afternoon.

The wind pattern in place will keep the opportunity for scattered afternoon and evening showers in the region as well. The most widespread coverage of afternoon rain though should mainly pop in the inland areas of the state. Highs today should range from the upper 80s along the immediate coastline to low 90s further inland.

On Wednesday we'll enter a bit of a transition phase with winds become more northwesterly. That should push our most widespread rain opportunities further back in the day toward the afternoon and evening. Highs on Wednesday are expected in the low 90s.

TROPICAL UDPATE

The newly-downgraded Tropical Storm Bertha continues to churn in the Atlantic.

The storm is located well off the east coast of the Carolinas and moving away from the mainland United States to the north-northeast at 22 mph.

Max sustained winds are holding at 65 mph, with a storm central pressure of 1005 mb.

The storm will continue its north-northeast progression and remains no threat to Southwest Florida or the east coast of the U.S. Return to index of stories...

IT WAS ANOTHER WIN FOR THE BEARS TODAY AS THE DOW FELL.

MANY INVESTORS ARE STILL CONCERNED WITH THE RECENT TREND IN STOCKS AND THAT A CORRECTION MAY BE LOOMING.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP OF WELLS FARGO ADVISORS TO EXPLAIN HOW YOU CAN HELP PROTECT YOUR NEST EGG AND RETIREMENT INCOME AND REDUCE THE OVERALL VOLATILITY OF YOUR INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· I think it's pretty apparent that stocks have stalled here in the past couple of weeks and a correction, I'm sure, is on many of your minds right now. We've been discussing the topic of a correction with you all now for a couple of weeks. Actually, we've been talking about the lack of a correction now for over two years. But I think recent market action may be pointing toward the potential for further market losses. And although we still believe that the looming correction will be relative short-lived and shallow, here are a couple of things you can consider to help reduce the volatility of your investment accounts and future retirement income.

· First, if it's your nest egg that you are trying to protect, you need to start by reviewing the overall asset allocation of your investments. Asset allocation is simply the mix of stocks,

bonds, and cash in your investment accounts. If you are looking to protect your nest egg or principle, the most effective way to reduce the volatility and downside risk of your portfolio is to reduce your exposure to the stock market.

Generally speaking, as you decrease the percentage of equities or stocks in your portfolio, so do you lower the downside risk and volatility of that portfolio. After you have decided on an asset allocation you are comfortable with, you can further reduce the downside risk of your portfolio by owning defensive, fundamentally strong stocks paying higher dividends and owning high quality bonds with short term maturities that will exhibit lower interest rate risk.

· Second, if it's specifically your future income that you are trying to protect in a time of falling markets, you can consider purchasing an annuity with a guaranteed minimum income

benefit rider. The way this works is at the time you purchase your annuity, you will lock in a minimum income benefit base and withdrawal rate which will determine your guaranteed annual income for your lifetime. And this guaranteed annual income can never go down regardless of whether the stock market rises or falls. In fact, with many variable annuity contracts today, your income can actually increase over time. Additionally, most of these types of contracts today allow you to maintain control of your principle and how that principle is invested in the subaccounts of the contract.

· We believe that a well-thought out investment plan takes into consideration both the preservation of your principle or nest egg and the sustainability of generating retirement income in the future. And unless you are blessed with a big healthy pension, you really have to be concerned with protecting both your nest egg and how that nest egg will generate income throughout your retirement. Set up an appointment with your advisor if you have specifically addressed these two areas of concern in your retirement income plan. Return to index of stories...

HE SAYS HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE RULES WHICH WOULD ALLOW

A FRIEND TO TAKE PICTURES FROM HIS DRONE AT NO CHARGE.

17;33;07;25 BEN GIELOW

The FAA has been dragging their feet on this and the longer they wait the more and more folks are going out there and flying without any rules, ***

LAST YEAR IN WYOMING - a drone literally crashed a wedding - when

A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER, FLYING A DRONE …

NAT SND - bump

LOST CONTROL LEADING TO A PAINFUL BUMP AND A MINOR CUT TO THE GROOM.

yet Despite the risks. WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS SAY, INCREASINGLY, THEY'RE HEARING REQUESTS FOR DRONES.

BUT VETERAN PHOTOGRAPHER CARLOS BAEZ SAYS THE WEDDINGS HE SHOOTS ARE ABOUT RESPECT AND NOT TURNING THE NUPTIALS INTO A FLYING CIRCUS

SOT CARLOS BAEZ

21;01;24;10 The biggest compliment we get is that people say they don't remember me being there photographing the wedding. i think having a drone there would definitely leave a mark on people remembering just one sound, that would be the drone buzzing above. ***DRONE BUZZING*** Return to index of stories...

WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE BEING THE NATION'S TOP KILLER, WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON INSIDE THEM? NOW GETTING A BEAT ON YOUR HEART HEALTH IS EASIER THAN EVER BEFORE.

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

:08 The nice thing about these tests is that they're non-invasive. There's going to be no discomfort with them, they can be done in one setting, they're quick and easy and they can give us a great insight into the heart.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

The heart lays at the center or 'heart' of our vascular system. Once blood leaves the heart it circulates throughout the body. And problems can pop up anywhere down the line. A group of 6 cardio tests, bundled together can provide a real-time health snapshot.

IT BEGINS WITH AN ECHOCARDIOGRAM:

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

:18 That's an ultrasound of the heart. We're able to look at the size and function of the heart. We're able to look for any evidence of previous heart attack, heart damage, or any significant leakage of the heart valve.

NEXT IS AN ULTRASOUND OF THE AORTA WHICH LOOKS FOR ANEURYSMS. FOLLOWED BY A CAROTID ULTRASOUND.

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:12 We ultrasound the two arteries inside the neck and we look for evidences of blockages. Severe blockages can actually increase your risk of stroke.

THE ANKLE-BRACHIAL TEST IS A TELLING TEST MOST PEOPLE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF.

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:35 We look at the blood flow down the legs. 2:08 And it's a very easy test to do. We just put some blood pressure cuffs down the legs in the same way that we put blood pressure cuffs on the arms.

AND DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE EKG-WHICH PACKS A POWERFUL PUNCH.

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

2:27 Even though it's a simple test, it can give us a lot of information. It can look for heart arrhythmias, it can look for irregular heartbeats, it can also give us information about whether there's been old heart attacks.

THE FINAL SCREENING IS A BLOOD PRESSURE TEST. TAKEN WITH THE OTHERS IT PROVIDES A FULLER PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH STATUS.

DR. LYNNE EINBINDER/INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

7:16 The reason why we pick these tests is because these are very serious conditions that it can pick up.

RETAIL FUTURE-PKG

THE FUTURE OF RETAIL IS NOW IN THE MAKING.

IN MANHATTAN STUDIOS.

SILICON VALLEY START-UPS.

AND RETAIL LABS THAT LOOK LIKE ANY OLD STORE BUT ARE SMARTER.

"physical retail is the temple for your brand. It will feel a lot like your digital retail experience."

"so if i'm a shopper, i'm interested in this dress. i can come over to the screen over here… and the screen will pick it up and know what i've got in front of it. you can pick your size and if you've logged in you can add it to your fitting room. so what you're actually doing is creating a shopping cart kind of like you do online."

THE INTERSECTION OF ONLINE INFORMATION, PHYSICAL PRODUCT AND PERSONALIZATION FROM DATA ANALYTICS WILL RE-DEFINE THE RETAIL EXPERIENCE.

BY OPTING IN… RETAILERS WILL KNOW WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE LIKE, AND HOW WE BUY AS SOON AS WE STEP INSIDE.

AND PERSONALIZATION WILL BE PARAMOUNT - LIKE CUSTOMIZING A PAIR OF CONVERSE FOR EVERY SHOPPER IN THE STORE.

"the store knows who you are when you come in, they can promote to you individually based on your buying preferences or purchase history and based upon what they think you will buy based on each individual promotion"

SMART STOREFRONTS THAT SENSE WHAT SPORTS TEAM YOU LIKE AND DISPLAY THE TEAM JERSEY TO PROMPT A PURCHASE.

DIGITAL HALOS AROUND EVERY PRODUCT THAT TELL A STORY -- WHERE IT COMES FROM, HOW IT WAS MADE AND PEER REVIEWS OF ITS PERFORMANCE.

POWERED BY YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCES AND PARTICULARS -- SMART SHELVES WILL ALSO PROTECT YOU.

"that intelligent shelf, knows that your daughter has a nut allergy, that is really incredibly dangerous. Now imagine that every single product in the store that has nuts in it, peanuts in it, or was made in a factory that had it, they all go dark."

AND THROUGH ALL THESE EXPERIENCES. THE CONSUMER WILL BE IN CONTROL.

"I don't think its a world where you're purely going to walk in and a robot's going to hand you the shirt that you browsed online. there's going to be people that do want that human to human interaction. i think the difference is they'll actually be able to order it on demand, whenever they want it, their way."
