SO YOUR KIDS AREN'T IN SHOCK WHEN THEY WAKE UP AUGUST 12TH, SLEEP SPECIALSTS TELL ME THE FIRST FEW WEEKS *BEFORE* THE START OF SCHOOL ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT - THIS IS THE TIME TO GET YOU KIDS USED TO WAKING UP EARLY.

THIS IS SOMETHING A LOT EASIER SAID THAN DONE, BUT IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS, LIFE IS GOING TO BE A LOT BETTER COME THIS FALL.

RESET YOUR BODY CLOCK - GET YOUR KID. AND YOURSELF - IN BED A HALF HOUR TO AN HOUR BEFORE YOU WANT THEM TO FALL ASLEEP. SCHOOL-AGED KIDS NEED ABOUT 10 TO 11 HOURS OF SLEEP EVERY NIGHT.

THAT ALSO MEANS RESCHEDULING MEAL TIMES

ALSO - IF YOU HAVE NAP TIME DURING THE SUMMER, CUT THAT OUT STARTING NOW OR MAKE IT EARLIER IN THE DAY.

FOR OLDER KIDS - MOVE THEIR ALARM CLOCK TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM SO IT FORCES THEM TO GET UP.

AND HERE'S ANOTHER BIG ONE - LIMIT CAFFEINE INTAKE - THIS WILL OBVIOUS KEEP THEM UP LATE AND MAKE IT EVEN HARDER FOR THEM TO GET UP IN THE MORNING.

A MASTER CALENDAR COULD HELP TOO - HAVE ONE IN YOUR KITCHEN DETAILING PLANS FOR THE WEEKS AHEAD. Return to index of stories...

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A FEW DOWNPOURS

The onshore wind flow continues today and while the rain chances are not gone, they are lower today. There could be just a passing shower from the morning through midday time frame. Then there will be scattered showers and storms in the afternoon and evening, with the bulk of that activity expected near and east of I-75.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be warmer and more seasonal than yesterday. Highs are likely to reach 93 at Fort Myers, 90 at Naples and 94 at Lehigh Acres.

Late afternoon and early evening showers and storms are expected Thursday and Friday with highs topping out in the low to mid 90s.

TROPICAL UPDATE

Tropical Storm Bertha continues to churn off the east coast of the United States but poses to threat to mainland North America.

Data shows the storm is moving northeast at 23 mph. Maximum sustained winds are down to 50 mph, and the movement of Bertha keeps it away from major land masses.

STEROID CASE ARREST-PKG

Investigators say he was the steroid connection for the highest-paid player in baseball history, Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees.

Federal drug agents today arrested Anthony Bosch of Key Biscayne, Florida, accusing him of selling testosterone and other performance enhancing drugs.

Among his customers, investigators say, were Rodriguez, a dozen or so other major leaguers, and nearly 20 Florida high school students.

. supplied with drugs that came from the black market, made by unknown suppliers:

"We talk about some clown in his basement with a bucket and a burner and a very dangerously limited knowledge of chemistry. And these chemicals were going into our children's bodies."

Rodriguez is now under suspension for a year -- the longest penalty ever in baseball for a doping violation.

Drug agents today also arrested his cousin, Yuri Sucart of Miami, accused of recruiting customers for Bosch.

Bosch admitted today that he introduced himself to players as Dr. Tony, or Dr. T, even though he was not a doctor and had no authority to prescribe drugs.

Investigators say he also gave advice on how to take the drugs to minimize the chances of getting caught.

In agreeing to plead guilty, Bosch said he'd help with the government's investigation -- raising the possibility other players could be implicated. Pete Williams, NBC News, at the Justice Department. Return to index of stories...
