IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS, A CUT ON MARTIN THOMAS'S FOREHEAD, IS ALL HE HAS, AFTER GOING THROUGH THAT.

"I am in very good spirits very thankful no one got hurt, that's key."

AN AIRPLANE ENTHUSIAST, MARTIN WAS FLYING WITH PILOT EARLE SWAN IN A PITTS STUNT BIPLANE TUESDAY, THEY'D BEEN DOING AEROBATICS AND WERE HEADING BACK TO THE HANGER.

2:39 -:50

"it was sudden engine failure, that can happen."

A CRITICAL SITUATION WITH ONLY SECONDS TO REACT, THE MEN KNEW THEY WEREN'T GOING TO MAKE IT FAR, SO THE PILOT LOOKED FOR AN EMPTY PLACE TO PUT THE PLANE DOWN.

3:00 -:12

"I say that was absolutely the right decision so we made sure no one was harmed, then we landed on a totally empty beach, we crash landed basically."

THE PLANE TUMBLED, FLIPPED OVER AND MARTIN HIT HIS HEAD ON THE DASHBOARD.

3:47

"There's not much time to think about it.

7:38 - 7:48 "if you're upside down and the water is coming in, you need to make sure you open the canopy and swim out, then you think about everything else."

THE MEN QUICKLY GOT OUT OF THE PLANE TO THE SAFETY OF SHORE.

An international murder plot -

carried out by a 19-year-old from a secluded neighborhood in Glades County called Muse.

Harris Friedman

Neighbor

04:51 04:57

it's pretty strange that somebody would imagine that was a way to make some money

Today in federal court in New Jersey -- Jesse Korff admitted the allegations are true.

He made and sold a deadly toxin called abrin on an underground website --

and planned to send another dose to a woman in England trying to kill her mother -

when the first dose didn't do the job.

But before he could send it -- he arranged a sale with an undercover agent and was busted.

NBC2 spoke to federal prosecutors after his arrest in January

US ATTORNEY

it's sad that at the age of 19 he got himself caught up in a situation like this where potentially he was helping to murder

Stand up - Laura Roberts

Neighbors out here in Muse recall just how chaotic it was after Korff's arrest. Federal agents swarmed this entire property out here searching for 3 days

Harris Friedman

Neighbor

06:04 06:10

it was definitely the talk of the neighborhood and to have something like that out here was very, very strange

During that search -- The FBI says they found the deadly abrin poison --

plus a pipe bomb, guns, ricin and a meth lab.

Korff is scheduled for sentencing this November.

A teenager facing life in prison.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

FORECAST: ONSHORE WIND IMPACTS WEDNESDAY'S RAIN POTENTIAL

Drier air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere has helped to keep our rain opportunities very low the past several days, and that trend continues this evening.

Through tonight we will continue to only have to include a widely isolated shower chance, and mainly for communities along and east of the Interstate 75 corridor.

Lows tonight should range from the mid and upper 70s along the immediate coatline to low and mid 70s across the interior of the state.

On Wednesday we will experience an onshore wind from the south and southwest. When that type of wind pattern establishes itself in our region, we open the door for some rain and isolated thunder in the morning and early afternoon hours.

With this in mind, don't be surprised if you encounter a passing shower or downpour on your drive to work tomorrow morning or even into the Wednesday lunch hour, but mainly for areas west of I-75.

By the afternoon however, our rain chances again become isolated along the coast and more numerous for areas in interior Collier, Glades and Hendry Counties.

Highs on Wednesday should range from the upper 80s along the beaches to near 92 at Fort Myers, 90 at Naples and 93 at Port Charlotte.

On Thursday, we will continue with an onshore wind flow meaning the risk for some showers in the morning exists. The afternoon should see a more moisture-rich environment and that could help to spark more showers and storms than the region has seen in the past week during the afternoon.

TROPICAL UPDATE

No tropical cyclones are active in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. None are expected to develop in the next 24 to 48 hours. Return to index of stories...
