FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

FORECAST: ONSHORE WIND IMPACTS WEDNESDAY'S RAIN POTENTIAL

Drier air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere has helped to keep our rain opportunities very low the past several days, and that trend continues this evening.

Through tonight we will continue to only have to include a widely isolated shower chance, and mainly for communities along and east of the Interstate 75 corridor.

Lows tonight should range from the mid and upper 70s along the immediate coatline to low and mid 70s across the interior of the state.

On Wednesday we will experience an onshore wind from the south and southwest. When that type of wind pattern establishes itself in our region, we open the door for some rain and isolated thunder in the morning and early afternoon hours.

With this in mind, don't be surprised if you encounter a passing shower or downpour on your drive to work tomorrow morning or even into the Wednesday lunch hour, but mainly for areas west of I-75.

By the afternoon however, our rain chances again become isolated along the coast and more numerous for areas in interior Collier, Glades and Hendry Counties.

Highs on Wednesday should range from the upper 80s along the beaches to near 92 at Fort Myers, 90 at Naples and 93 at Port Charlotte.

On Thursday, we will continue with an onshore wind flow meaning the risk for some showers in the morning exists. The afternoon should see a more moisture-rich environment and that could help to spark more showers and storms than the region has seen in the past week during the afternoon.

IF YOU WERE A SUCCESSFUL MARKET TIMER, THAT WAS THE DAY YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT OUT OF THE MARKET.

IF YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL MARKET TIMER YOU BOUGHT BACK INTO THE MARKET ON FEBRUARY 3RD AFTER THE MARKET DROPPED 1200 POINTS.

CAN INVESTORS SUCCESSFULLY TIME THE MARKET?

FROM A MARKET TIMING POINT OF VIEW IS THIS THE TIME TO BE IN THE MARKET OR OUT?

FINANCIAL ADVISOR JIM NOLTE IS HERE WITH SOME PERSPECTIVE. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· Statistically, market timing is a dream. That doesn't mean investors can't dream about market timing.

· One of Will Rogers famous quotes was "only buy stocks that go up. If they won't go up, don't buy them". I wish it was that simple.

· No doubt it's hard to decide when the market has peaked and it is time to sell. I think it's even harder to know when to jump back in.

· History tells us that to be successful on both sides of that equation consistently is pretty much impossible.

· Mark Hulbert, the editor of the Hulbert Financial Digest, recently commented on the market calls made by Richard Russell the esteemed editor of the Dow Theory Letters Advisory Service. Mr. Russell is credited with his almost perfect sell advice within a day of the bull market top in August 1987 - two months before the worst single day crash in US history. Bravo!

· Unfortunately, Mr. Russell stayed out of the stock market until August 1989 when the market was at roughly the same level it had been when he issued his famous sell recommendation.

· According to the Hulbert financial Digest, only 11 of the 81 registered stock market timers actually made money during the bear market that began in March 2000 and ended in October 2002. On average market timers have actually lost money over the last 13 years. The reason is simple, these guys knew when to get out but they didn't know when to get back in.

· I think the lack of success of market timing goes back to human nature. After a vicious bear market people think that current conditions will be permanent. For most people, putting money back to work at the bottom of a bear market takes more conviction than most people have.

· In my opinion investors need to take a very objective look at the economy and the stock market. We also have to consider the sentiment of investors and the overall amount of cash that is stashed away in money market funds and savings accounts.

· Stock markets move in cycles and at the top we usually see some very specific characteristics.

Investor sentiment is very positive and upbeat.

People who have been sitting on the sidelines capitulate and throw their money in the stock market.

· There is a relatively small amount of cash still left in money market funds and savings accounts.

· Those characteristics just don't exist today. The market activity for the last several months just feels like a correction not the beginning of a bear market.

· So what do smart investors do in markets like this? They may take some profits in positions that have gone up too much and too fast. But one thing for sure, smart investors take advantage of pullbacks in the market.

· An easy way to accomplish this is by using a simple system called "dollar cost averaging". That just means you divide the amount of money you want to invest in the stock market in three or four parts. Then spread your investments out over the next three or four months.

· Remember the perfect world for investors - Buy Low/Sell High. Return to index of stories...

SPRAIN OR STRAIN - MILLIONS OF AMERICANS ARE DEALING WITH PAIN.

WHO WOULD'VE DREAMED THAT A SWEEP OF LIGHT COULD MELT YOUR PAIN AWAY? THE STUFF OF SCIENCE FICTION HAS BECOME REALITY.

DR. MARK FARMER/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

1:12 Any acute inflammations, or even chronic things, it can help by stimulating the healing process, stimulating your cells to do what they're supposed to do. And hopefully help get rid of your pain.

THIS IS A CLASS 4 LASER, FDA APPROVED FOR THERAPY. MOSTLY AIMED AT INFLAMMATION- THE UNDERLYING CAUSE OF MANY OF OUR ACHES AND PAINS. UNLIKE SURGICAL LASERS THAT USE HEAT TO TREAT TISSUE, THIS IS A COLD LASER.

DR. MARK FARMER/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

8:34 We can use a hand probe and actually hold it on so the light penetrates a little bit deeper. For something that's more generalized or a spasm or a larger area, we can use this robotic laser. We plug in the information into the computer for certain conditions like arthritis of the back or acute sprain.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Cutting to the science- advanced lasers work on a molecular level. Using light to stimulate the cells responsible for tissue repair. A fast-track for healing, it may help some people avoid surgery.

DR. MARK FARMER/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

1:29: It stimulates a structure in your cells, we call the mitochondria, to produce this substance called ATP. ATP is the energy source for your cells. By stimulating the cells to produce more of this, it kind of super drives your cells to do what you're supposed to do at a high level.

LASER TREATMENTS TAKE ABOUT 10 MINUTES, SOME CONDITIONS REQUIRING SEVERAL SESSIONS. IT DOESN'T WORK ON BONE, BUT HAS BEEN USED ON PATIENTS FROM HEAD TO TOE.

DR. FARMER & AMY

RUNS:

12:35 It gives us some additional ways to treat patients and certainly the results we're getting are extremely good and extremely exciting.

IT'S THE CUTTING EDGE OPTION MANY PATIENTS ARE LOOKING FOR- MINUS THE CUTTING. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

CAT COLLAR WIFI-PKG

Laurie: "So you're about to take this adorable little cat on a walk."

Gene: "I'm going to try."

Laurie: "You're going to try. But there's something very unique about this cat and that is that this cat, along with its collar has hacking capabilities. Am I right?"

Gene: "Uh. He has scanning capabilities."

Gene: "So this little thing is talking - is listening to satellites in space and collecting all these GPS hits."

Gene: "This SD card was in the collar, collecting the data.and we put it onto the laptop here."

Laurie: "So, we're looking at a ton of data."

Gene: "Yes."

Laurie: "And that was collected in a couple minutes with the cat roaming around with this high-tech collar?"

Gene: "Um hmm."

Laurie: "If you're a bad guy, what are you going to do with all this?"

Gene: "If I'm a bad guy I'm going to look here and see which open wifi access points are available to me. And if I'm going to some type of hacking or some sort of malicious activity. I won't do it from my house because they can track me to there."

Laurie: "Okay."

Gene: "I can go to somebody else's house, connect to their wifi hot spot via their open wifi. And then if you want to do hacking or even something really terrible like child pornography, you can download it via that open wifi access point. And when the FBI shows up they're going to show up to where that access point was - not the guy who connected to it."

Laurie: "And so what's the message you kind of want to give with this?"

Gene: "So, I just did this because the idea of it made me laugh. And I wanted to see if I could actually accomplish it and I managed to accomplish it.

But what I'm really disturbed by is that there's a lot of open wifi access points. The biggest thing people can do is make sure that their home wifi access points are properly secured. That's what John and Jane Q public can do on a day-to-day basis to make sure that their house is the most secure." Return to index of stories...
