5:00 WEATHER LEAD-WX WALL

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

STAYING HOT AND HUMID WITH LIMITED RAIN CHANCES

Our Tuesday morning starts warm and humid. Temperatures will climb quickly once the sun comes up this morning. We'll be near 90 by the noon hour and continue into the lower 90s with heat index values reaching into the lower 100s this afternoon. There will be plenty of sunshine through the morning with a few more clouds building in as we go through the afternoon. Winds will again be coming onshore. As far as rain chances, they remain low today. There could be just a stray shower to wash ashore late this morning. Then there will be a couple of isolated storms, mainly inland, this afternoon.

Wednesday will likely have a chance for a shower in the first half of the day, mainly along the coastline. By the afternoon our rain prospects again move inland east of the interstate.

TROPICAL UPDATE

A tropical wave can be seen on satellite imagery off the western coast of Africa.

The unorganized collection of showers and thunderstorms is showing no signs of immediate development.

According to National Hurricane Center meteorologists, the disturbance has a 0% chance of cyclone development in the next two days, with a 20% chance through the next five.

Forecast model data places the tropical wave moving westward at 15 to 20 mph through Monday.

Over the open Atlantic, model forecast data diverges. Some data suggests the disturbance will curl more toward the north in the Atlantic while other models hold it moving due west toward the Caribbean.

It is too early to determine if the tropical wave will become the third named tropical event of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Center and if it will pose any impact on our weather in Southwest Florida.

We will be tracking it on air and online to keep you updated. Return to index of stories...

5:30 WEATHER LEAD-WX WALL
