CAR USED IN SHOOTING WAS CARJACKED-PKG

Jaclyn StandUp

It was a little after 4 Sunday morning. Sources tell us the victim was coming to work here at the Walgreens on Colonial. She got out of her car, closed the door, and found three men behind her, dressed in all black wearing ski masks, and pointing guns at her.

SOT: DANIEL EMERICK, CUSTOMER

391329 obviously they've been staking it out and they've had to be knowing somebody would be coming here at that time in the morning.

That from a Walgreens customer who says he was a state trooper for years.

From this parking lot, the Nissan Altima and those three suspects headed east on colonial boulevard.

Leaving customers concerned with the suspects on the loose.

SOT: DANIEL EMERICK, CUSTOMER

385805 it's a populated area here, and it's very bold for someone to do that in this populated of an area.

SOT: DEVYN HOSKISSON, CUSTOMER

3830 i probably won't come here early in the morning or at night.

After the Walgreens-- police say the crime spree for those three didn't end. It led to this-- A robbery at the Circle K gas station with similar outfits. The suspected car in the armed robbery-- believed to be the one stolen at wal greens.

One witness was shot not far from the Circle K. police say by those same three suspects.

Officers later recovered the car -- abandoned by the suspects.

But the search continues for those three men wanted now for at least two crimes in less than 24 hours.

In Fort Myers, Jaclyn Bevis, NBC-2. Return to index of stories...

THE AWARD-WINNING ACTOR AND COMEDIAN WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA HOME ON MONDAY.

"the male subject, who was pronounced deceaded by firefighters from the Tiburon Fire Department at 12:02pm, has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams."

WILLIAMS BATTLED DRUG ADDICTION AND DEPRESSION FOR YEARS.

HE VISITED A REHAB CENTER LAST MONTH.

"The preliminary, and I again say preliminary, results of the forensic examination, revealed supporting physical signs that Mr. Williams' life ended from asphyxia due to hanging."

IN THE WAKE OF HIS DEATH, MOURNERS ARE TURNING TO HIS CAREER FOR COMFORT.

WILLIAMS BECAME A HOUSEHOLD NAME AS A STAR ON THE SITCOM "MORK AND MINDY"

"Run for your life! The emotions are coming!"

ON THE BIG SCREEN, HE STARRED IN COMEDIES LIKE THE BIRDCAGE, ALADIN, AND MRS. DOUBTFIRE.

"Look at this - my first day as a woman, and I'm already getting hot flashes."

WILLIAMS OFTEN CHANNELED HIS TALENT TO HELP OTHERS -- HE PARTICIPATED IN SIX U.S.O. TOURS AND CO-HOSTED "COMIC RELIEF" PERFORMANCES TO HELP THE HOMELESS.

IN A STATEMENT, WILLIAMS' WIFE ASKED FANS NOT TO FOCUS ON HIS DEATH, BUT HIS LIFE.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

FORECAST: ONSHORE WIND IMPACTS WEDNESDAY'S RAIN POTENTIAL

Drier air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere has helped to keep our rain opportunities very low the past several days, and that trend continues this evening.

Through tonight we will continue to only have to include a widely isolated shower chance, and mainly for communities along and east of the Interstate 75 corridor.

Lows tonight should range from the mid and upper 70s along the immediate coatline to low and mid 70s across the interior of the state.

On Wednesday we will experience an onshore wind from the south and southwest. When that type of wind pattern establishes itself in our region, we open the door for some rain and isolated thunder in the morning and early afternoon hours.

With this in mind, don't be surprised if you encounter a passing shower or downpour on your drive to work tomorrow morning or even into the Wednesday lunch hour, but mainly for areas west of I-75.

By the afternoon however, our rain chances again become isolated along the coast and more numerous for areas in interior Collier, Glades and Hendry Counties.

Highs on Wednesday should range from the upper 80s along the beaches to near 92 at Fort Myers, 90 at Naples and 93 at Port Charlotte.

On Thursday, we will continue with an onshore wind flow meaning the risk for some showers in the morning exists. The afternoon should see a more moisture-rich environment and that could help to spark more showers and storms than the region has seen in the past week during the afternoon.

TROPICAL UPDATE

No tropical cyclones are active in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. None are expected to develop in the next 24 to 48 hours. Return to index of stories...

TOMORROW MARKS TEN YEARS, SINCE SWFL FLORIDA WAS ROCKED BY HURRICANE CHARLEY.

PARTS OF CHARLOTTE COUNTY WERE DESTROYED BY DAMAGING WINDS.

BUT AS NBC2'S CHRIS GILMORE REPORTS -THE REBUILDING WAS SUCCESS DESPITE, POWER OUTAGES AND MOUNDS OF DEBRIS. Return to index of stories...

REMEMBERING HURRICANE CHARLEY: POWER OUTAGES-PKG

AT FIRST GLANCE IT'S JUST A NORMAL BUSINESS DAY AT MORTON'S ACE HARDWARE IN PORT CHARLOTTE.

BUT IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE PICTURES ON THE WALL AND LISTEN TO WHAT THE STAFF HAS TO SAY.

"The building was gone."

YOU'LL REALIZE THAT EVEN BEING OPEN TODAY, ALMOST EXACTLY 10 YEARS AFTER HURRICANE CHARLEY IS A BIG DEAL.

THEIR POWER DIDN'T JUST GO OUT TEN YEARS AGO. THEIR WHOLE BUILDING BLEW AWAY.

"He said what's gone, I said the store it's all gone he said what do you mean. I said I'm standing by the wall, he said the one by your desk? I said Joe the wall is on my desk."

BROWN WAS ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF SWFL RESIDENTS LIVING WITH DESTRUCTION, DEBRIS AND NO POWER FOR WEEKS AFTER HURRICANE CHARLEY.

IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE STORM, FPL SENT CREWS TO HARD HIT AREAS TO RESTORE POWER. IT WAS A JOB THAT TOOK MORE THAN 2 WEEKS,

"It was the ultimate humpty dumpty story and they did it and they were part of all those kings horses and men that came from hither and yon to put this city back together."

FPL REPRESENTATIVES WERE IN PUNTA GORDA TODAY TO DEMONSTRATE HOW THEIR RESPONSE TO AND DETECTION OF POWER OUTAGES HAVE IMPROVED OVER THE DECADE SINCE CHARLEY.

FROM DIGITAL OUTAGE TRACKING TO AN UPGRADED MOBILE COMMAND CENTER -- FPL SAYS IT IS BETTER PREPARED FOR THE NEXT BIG STORM.

"Utility Poles are also looking a lot different than they did 10 years ago, FP&L representatives tell me that you'll see more concrete ones like this one, capable of withstanding winds of withstanding winds of up to 130mph."

THE DECISION TO REBUILD AND IMPROVE WAS ONE THAT BROWN AND HIS TEAM HAD TO MAKE AS WELL.

THE WAY HE TELLS IT, IT WASN'T A HARD DECISION.

"We had a little bit of silence when we were trying to decide what to do, pack it in or rebuild. He said there's only one choice, we're gonna rebuild, the best piece of graffitti we will be back and that set things in motion."

TEN YEARS LATER AND STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS REPORTING FROM CHARCO CG NBC2. Return to index of stories...

THE HEAVY DOWNPOUR TURNED MOOSE RIDGE DRIVE INTO TO A RAPID RIVER.BRINGING DOWN EVERYTHING IN ITS WAY.

IT WASN'T EXACTLY THE HOMECOMING PHILLIP SCHULTZ EXPECTED.

IN THE THREE YEARS THAT HE'S LIVED THERE.HE SAYS HE'S NEVER SEEN ANYTHING QUITE LIKE THIS.

NBC2'S BRYAN ANDERSON FOUND OUT HOW THE CITY OF NAPLES IS ALREADY PLANNING FOR WAYS TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO THE DRUG. Return to index of stories...

MEDICAL MARIJUANA ORDINANCE MEETING-PKG

THE DEBATE OVER LEGALIZING MEDICAL MARIJUANA HITS CLOSE TO HOME FOR GLORIA KOVACS.

SHE HAS GLAUCOMA AND COULD SEE RELIEF FROM THE PRESSURE IN HER EYES BY USING IT.

GLORIA

22:41:45

I'd have to think long and hard on that.

LEGALIZATION LIES IN THE HANDS OF FLORIDA VOTERS.

IT'S ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.

BUT NAPLES CITY LEADERS ARE ALREADY PREPARING.

KOVACS IS A NAPLES PLANNING BOARD MEMBER.

WEDNESDAY SHE SAYS THE BOARD WILL TAKE UP THEIR MOST CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC EVER.

HOW THEY THINK NAPLES CITY COUNCIL SHOULD REGULATE THE INDUSTRY.

GLORIA

22:43:20-:22

I don't think anything like this. This is totally different.

IF IT WAS UP TO NAPLES MAYOR JOHN SOREY.

Mayor John Sorey, City of Naples

22:43:34

I think it's a major mistake personally.

THE SALE OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA WOULD BE BANNED WITHIN CITY LIMITS.

THAT IS AN OPTION THE PLANNING BOARD IS WILL CONSIDER RECOMMENDING.

BUT SOREY SAYS IT'S UNREALISTIC.

Mayor John Sorey, City of Naples

22:45:20-:23

If it does pass, to be as restrictive as legally can be.

ONE OPTION WOULD ALLOW DISPENSERIES TO SET UP SHOP IN SEVERAL SPOTS AROUND TOWN.

OR THEY'D BE RESTRICTED ONLY TO THE MEDICAL OFFICE ZONING DISTRICT.

THAT'S WHERE NAPLES COMMUNITY HOSPITAL IS DOWNTOWN.

NEARBY IS GULFVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL.

STANDUP

22:58:09-:16

UNDER THESE PROPOSALS, ANY DISPENSERIES WOULD HAVE TO BE AT LEAST 400 FEET FROM HERE. THAT'S MORE THAN THE LENGTH OF THIS FOOTBALL FIELD.

A VOTE IN FAVOR OF LEGALIZATION WILL COME FROM ELEANOR DIAZ.

SHE OWNS A HAIR SALON IN THE MEDICAL DISTRICT.

ELEANOR DIAZ, GEMINI MOON SALON OWNER

When you can say it helps people, why not?

THE ANSWER DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK.
