City workers dug up Dick Baker's yard this week -

and made these marks for where they plan to do more utilities work later.

Dick Baker

Cape Coral

04:08 04:12

they put something in the ground then they dig it up again, they put something in the ground then they dig it up again

He lives in the Bimini Basin part of South East Cape Coral -

the latest area where workers are replacing old metal pipes, with larger plastic pipes.

On Monday, they also added extra valves to reduce the effects of water main breaks.

But in the meantime - shut off water for 7 hours.

Dick Baker

04:42 04:47

from 9-4 it was out of water, but 4 o'clock there was 60 lbs of pressure so.

But not everyone in his neighborhood had that kind of good luck -

Carl Miller said when the water came back on at his house, he couldn't believe what was coming out of his faucet.

Carl Miller

when I turned the faucets on when I turned the shower on when I flushed the water was actually like a dark brown, so i'm afraid to even clean with it or anything

They're under a boil water notice right now -

something they've experienced before from other projects in their neighborhood.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We're tracking a few downpours and even a few storms roaming across Southwest Florida this afternoon and into the evening, but the bulk of the rain will tend to stay over our inland areas through the evening.

Aside from a passing downpour or two, we'll see a warm and muggy conclusion to our Wednesday with a mostly clear sky through the overnight period.

As we approach the early morning hours Thursday, some downpours will develop over the Gulf and head toward the coast of Southwest Florida, so plan for the possibility for some scattered showers during the morning hours.

By the late afternoon hours on Thursday, the highest concentration of rain will likely be over interior portions of the peninsula, but a few isolated showers will still be possible closer to the coast.

Our rain chances will start to drop off a little more from Friday into the upcoming weekend, keeping lots of sun and warm temperatures in our forecast. A few passing showers will be possible early in the day, but the rain that develops during the afternoon will primarily impact areas away from the coast and deep inland.

Tropical Update

Other than a couple tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic, the tropics continue to stay very quiet. Tropical activity is not expected for the next few days, but we're getting close to the time of year when we normally see an increase in tropical development. Keep monitoring nbc-2.com for future updates on the tropics. Return to index of stories...
