FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

ROBERT AT THE WX CENTER

The weather pattern this week has continued to bring an onshore wind to our part of Florida and our morning showers are becoming routine. The forecast calls for a few of the showers in the Gulf of Mexico to continue drifting toward the coastline this evening. Some showers will move briefly over the beaches and continue inland before raining out. Isolated thunderstorms will continue across inland area along the sea breeze boundary. Some areas of heavy rain and frequent lightning are possible through sunset. Temperatures will drop to the upper 70's by tomorrow morning and recover to the lower 90's by the end of the day on Friday. Morning showers and afternoon, inland, thunderstorms are likely again tomorrow.

The tropics continue to be very quiet and we are not tracking any developing storms in the Gulf, Caribbean or open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Return to index of stories...

A NEW APPROACH IS WORKING TONIGHT IN FURGESON, MISSOURI.

THE SAINT LOUIS SUBURB HAS EPITOMIZED AMERICA'S RACIAL DIVIDE SINCE A POLICE OFFICER SHOT AN UNARMED TEEN LAST WEEKEND.

TONIGHT, LAW ENFORCEMENT MADE A BIG CHANGE TO THE WAY IT'S HANDLING THE PROTESTS.

THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS PROTESTERS HAVE BEEN MET WITH THIS-

CITY POLICE WEARING FULL RIOT GEAR-

SOME EVEN HOLDING SUB-MACHINE GUNS AND DRIVING AROUND IN ARMORED VEHICLES.

NOW, A STATE POLICE CAPITAN FROM THE AREA HAS TAKEN CHARGE.

STATE OFFICERS ARE NOW ON THE STREETS-

BUT IN A NON-THREATENING MANOR.

JENNA HANCHARD TAKES US TO FURGESON TO SHOW US HOW THE GOVERNOR'S PASSIONATE PLEA FOR CALM MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Return to index of stories...

IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE MICHAEL BROWN WAS KILLED.

STATE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICERS JOINING RESIDENTS.MARCHING FOR SOLIDARITY IN FERGUSON. A COMMUNITY TORN BY RECENT DAYS OF PROTEST

IT'S THE FIRST DEMONSTRATION SINCE MISSOURI'S GOVERNOR ANNOUNCED A NEW STRATEGY --

Missouri:30 -:35

"The MO Highway Patrol under supervision of Ron Johnson who grew up in this area to provide security in Ferguson."

"You can stay out here all night. All I ask is that you pull back a little bit."

A MOVE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE ALREADY DIFFUSED A LOT OF FRUSTRATION IN THE SUBURB OF ST. LOUIS.

"We're getting more information. Now it seems like the troopers are in our corner. They marched with us today. We appreciate that very much."

A PALATABLE SHIFT. FROM JUST EARLIER IN THE DAY.

AND THE PAST FOUR NIGHTS OF VIOLENT CONFRONTATIONS WITH POLICE.

THAT HAVE DRAWN NATIONWIDE ATTENTION. AND CALLS FOR CALM.

"Now is the time for healing, now is the time for peace and calm on the streets of ferguson, now is the time for an open and transparent process to see that justice is done."

"This is my home. I want peace. That's why I'm out here."
