DEVELOPING RIGHT NOW AT FOUR. INVESTIGATORS RELEASE THEIR FIRST REPORT INTO A PLANE CRASH THAT KILLED A FATHER AND HIS DAUGHTER ON A BEACH.

WE KNOW WHAT THE PILOT SAW AS HIS PLANE WAS GOING DOWN.

THE NEW REPORT SHEDS LIGHT INTO WHAT HAPPENED ON CASPERSON BEACH NEAR VENICE LAST MONTH.

NBC2 ANCHOR HEATHER TURCO IS HERE IN THE STUDIO TO EXPLAIN. Return to index of stories...

VENICE PLANE CRASH-TC MON

NEARLY A MONTH AGO, 36-YEAR-OLD ARMY VETERAN OMMY IRI-ZARRY AND HIS 9-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, OCEANA, WERE KILLED WHEN A SMALL PLANE HIT THEM, WHILE THE PILOT WAS MAKING AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE BEACH.

WITNESSES BELIEVE THE TWO MAY NOT HAVE HEARD THE PLANE COMING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE WIND AND SURF, AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE PLANE NOISE, IF ANY AT ALL, INDICATING THE ENGINE MAY HAVE STOPPED WORKING. Return to index of stories...

VENICE PLANE CRASH-VO

THE N-T-S-B REPORT RELEASED TODAY SHOWS THE PLANE'S LEFT FUEL TANK WAS THREE QUARTERS FULL, THE RIGHT, HALF FULL.

THAT TRAGIC DAY, THE PILOT, KARL KOKOMOOR, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY - HE WAS OVER WATER AT THE TIME, AND KOKOMOOR WAS CONCERNED, IF HE LANDED IN DEEP WATER, THE AIRPLANE WOULD FLIP OVER - WHICH IS WHY HE CHOSE A STRETCH OF BEACH.

BUT ONCE THE PLANE WAS EXAMINED CLOSELY, INVESTIGATORS WERE ABLE TO START THE ENGINE ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT.

INVESTIGATORS ALSO REMOVED THE CARBURETOR, DISASSEMBLED AND EXAMINED IT.

THEY FOUND NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOSE POWER. Return to index of stories...

VENICE PLANE CRASH-SS TOPS TC MON

THE PILOT SAYS HE NEVER SAW THE TWO ON THE BEACH UNTIL AFTER HE LANDED.

THE ENGLEWOOD MAN HAS APOLOGIZED TO THE FAMILY.

ITS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE N-T-S-B TOOK A LOOK AT THE PLANE'S FUEL SUPPLY AND THE FUEL TANK'S VENTILATION SYSTEM AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS.

INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL LOOKING INTO THE ENGINE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

SO FAR, NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Early this morning, a couple of downpours have already developed and worked their way to our coastline from the Gulf of Mexico. Through the morning to midday time frame, we'll see some scattered downpours washing ashore and fading once they come ashore. This is happening as the onshore wind flow continues to dominate our weather pattern. By this afternoon, there will still be a few storms, but they will be mainly inland. Even as most of the activity heads inland this afternoon, a stray shower can still wash ashore at any time.

For Friday and into the weekend, rain chances will be limited. With winds staying onshore, we will still be in the pattern of the chance for a morning shower to come in from the Gulf of Mexico and the isolated afternoon activity will be aimed toward the inland areas.

Highs today and through the next few days will be near 90 degrees at the coastline to the mid 90s in the inland areas. Lows will stay in the mid and upper 70s.

Tropical Update

Other than a couple tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic, the tropics continue to stay quiet. Tropical activity is not expected for the next few days, but we're getting close to the time of year when we normally see an increase in tropical development. ROUGHLY 10-THOUSAND BABY BOOMERS WILL BE RETIRING EVERY DAY FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS.

MANY OF THOSE BOOMERS HAVE SAVED MONEY IN EMPLOYER-SPONSORED RETIREMENT PLANS LIKE 401K AND 403B PLANS.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO DISCUSS A STRATEGY TO GIVE YOU MORE CONTROL OF YOUR MONEY.

NICK. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

That's a whole lot of people! Let's see, 10,000 boomers times 365 days a year times 20 years…That's 73 million people. So let's first define who we are talking about here. If you are a baby boomer, you were born between 1946 and 1964, so we are talking about folks between the ages of 50 and 68. And more specifically, today we talking about 50 to 68 year olds that are still working and have money saved in a qualified employer-sponsored retirement plan like a 401K or 403B. If you fall into this category, you may be able to rollover part or all of your retirement savings into an Individual Retirement Account or IRA. And here are a few reasons why you should consider making what's called an in-service distribution.

· So first, an in-service distribution is simply rolling over all or a portion of your 401K or 403B to an IRA while you are still employed. Not all plans allow for in-service distributions, so you will want to confirm if your plan allows for in-service distributions.

The advantage of making an in-service distribution is that you can become more active in managing and diversifying your retirement savings while continuing to make pre-tax contributions to your company's retirement plan and possibly enjoy any available employer matching. An IRA allows you to choose from virtually the universe of investment options. You will no longer be restricted to a limited number of investment options found in most employer-sponsored retirement plans where investment choices are determined by the plan.

· Second, by rolling over the assets from your 401K or 403B into an IRA, you become the sole owner of that IRA with full rights of access to that account. In an employer-sponsored plan, the employer is the owner and plan participants are bound by the constraints of the plan documents. Another significant advantage of rolling over your plan assets and being the sole owner of your IRA is that you can customize your beneficiary designations to help you with your legacy and estate planning goals.

· Last, by rolling over plan assets into an IRA, you will have the ability to consolidate all of your retirement and non-retirement assets with one financial advisor with all of the benefits of a full-service brokerage firm. Additionally, by consolidating your accounts, you and your financial advisor can more effectively develop and manage a sustainable retirement income plan that will help you get to and through retirement.

· Now, if you have already retired and still have your retirement assets in the employer-sponsored plan, I would recommend that you contact the plan administrator of your 401K or 403B and request paperwork now to roll over those assets to an IRA. Then you can meet with your financial advisor who can assist you will completing that paperwork to facilitate rolling over those plan assets to your IRA. If you have any further questions about how to take an in-service distribution and whether or not it's the right move for you, contact your financial advisor today. Return to index of stories...

TRAVEL COMPLAINTS APP-ONCAM

WE'VE ALL HAD TRAVEL PROBLEMS.

BUT WHAT IF YOU COULD SHARE YOUR HORROR STORIES WITH LEADERS ON CAPITOL HILL?

WHETHER STUCK IN TRAFFIC OR STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT, THERE'S A NEW APP THAT STREAMS YOUR COMPLAINTS DIRECTLY TO CONGRESS.

JAMIE GUIROLA SHOWS HOW IT WORKS. Return to index of stories...

TRAVEL COMPLAINTS APP-PKG

WHETHER ITS ON A RUNWAY OR A ROADWAY. WE'VE ALL BEEN THROUGH IT. THAT MOMENT WHEN YOU REALLY NEED TO GET SOMEWHERE AND SUDDENLY YOU'RE STUCK.

"sometimes weather conditions and sometimes there's delays for broken planes"

SO WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE TARMAC OR IN TRAFFIC? HONK YOUR HORN, MAYBE YELL OUT THE WINDOW, OR THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU? NEITHER OF THOSE REALLY DO ANY GOOD. AT LEAST NOT IN THE LONG RUN. SO, INSTEAD OF BEING STUCK IN A BAD MOOD. GET UNSTUCK. WITH THE APP. I'M STUCK.

"Complaining in your vehicle about traffic is going to do nothing. I may even annoy the other people who are in the car with you. but if your member of congress hears from you have they actually have the power to do something about it."

THE FREE BIPARTISAN APP, MADE BY BUILDING AMERICAS FUTURE AND THE US TRAVEL ASSOCIATION ALLOWS DELAYED COMMUTERS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO DIRECTLY AND IMMEDIATELY EMAIL THEIR US REPRESENTATIVE OR SENATOR TO SHARE THEIR FRUSTRATION.

"That's the great thing about the app and if members of congress hear from their constituents they're more likely to act. Constituents are the best lobbyist and this app helps them to that."

THE MORE PEOPLE THAT USE THE APP. THE MORE EFFECTIVE. JUST OPEN IT. TAP YOUR SITUATION AND LET IT ALL OUT. THE APP ALSO ALLOWS USERS TO UPLOAD IMAGES

"if you're stuck in a red light i don't think its gonna help much. but maybe in a pothole, maybe if you get like 170 something complaints perhaps they might fill it in."

THE OVERALL GOAL IS AIMED TO IMPROVE AMERICAS TRAVEL INFRASTRUCTURE. BUT WITH AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF AMERICANS ALREADY DISAPPROVING OF CONGRESS. TRAVELERS AND COMMUTERS ARE HIGHLY SKEPTICAL OF THE APPS

"I feel like that's tricky too because how do we know its going to the congressperson. we don't know if its actually going to him. or its going to one of his secretaries, answering service and again he might get so many it'd probably just get pushed to the side." Return to index of stories...

HURRICANE FOODS-ONCAM

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR FOOD IF A HURRICANE APPROACHES?

A NEW REPORT CLAIMS YOU SHOULDN'T EAT FOOD IF YOUR REFRIDGERATOR'S TEMPERATURE REACHES WARMER THAN 40 DEGREES.

IF THE POWER GOES OUT. EXPERTS SAY YOUR FRIDGE WILL KEEP FOOD COLD FOR AROUND FOUR HOURS IF IT'S NOT OPENED.

A FREEZER WILL KEEP THE TEMPERATURE FOR ABOUT 48 HOURS IF IT'S PACKED. AND 24 HOURS IF IT IS HALF-FULL. AS LONG AS THE DOOR IS KEPT CLOSED.

EXPERTS ALSO SUGGEST BUYING CANNED FRUITS PACKED IN WATER. Return to index of stories...

So they'll look for the exact amount of sugar, the exact amount of salt, the exact amount of fat that makes a consumer keep coming back for it. You know those foods that call your name, there's a reason they call your name.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

By some estimates the average American downs 152 pounds of sugar a year. And it's coming at us from every direction. The sweets we eat combined with added sugars in everything from bread to sauces. The cost of convenience is heavy.

JEANNE STRUVE/REGISTERED DIETITIAN

RUNS:

2:16 Unfortunately we're paying a price for that with our health. It may be easy and quick to put on the table but then you may end up with health problems later on.

IT'S SOMETHING TINA NEVER CONSIDERED…

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

Keep monitoring nbc-2.com for future updates on the tropics. Return to index of stories...

IS THIS THE FUTURE OF TELEVISION?

THE AUDIENCE FOR 3-D T-V HAS NOT BEEN ALL THAT ELECTRONICS RETAILERS HOPED FOR SO FAR.

MARK BARGER GIVES US A LOOK. Return to index of stories...

ULTRA TV-PKG

TELEVISION MADE A MAJOR LEAP WITH THE ADVENT OF

HIGH DEFINITION TV.

BUT NOW, ULTRA HD IS HERE. SOMETIMES CALLED 4K TELEVISION.

SETS WITH RESOLUTION ABOUT 4 TIMES SHARPER THAN CURRENT HD TELEVISION.

"We're going from a child's crayon trying to get detail to a very fine point pen."

JIM WILLIAMSON OPERATES A SHOWROOM FOR HIGH-END ELECTRONICS AND HAS SEEN CUSTOMERS STUNNED BY THIS HIGHER DEFINITION TV.

"Most of the customers come in here and stand in front of this TV and go "oh my god!" so there is that level of visual difference."

CONSUMER REPORTS TESTED VARIOUS U-H-D TVS…

INCLUDING THE NEW CURVED SAMSUNG 65-INCH, WHICH WAS ONE OF THEIR TOP PICKS.

BUT, ELECTRONICS EDITOR JIM WILLCOX SAYS CONTENT MAKERS NEED TO CATCH UP TO THE NEW TECHNOLOGY.

"Sony and Samsung both offer hard drives where you can get pre loaded movies on them.

Netflix is starting to stream some 4k but there's really not a lot of 4k content"

BUT UNLIKE THE RECENT TRANSITION FROM STANDARD TO HIGH DEFINITION.

"Regular TV content looks even better on these ultra hi def sets"

THAT ADDED DETAIL THOUGH… COMES WITH A HEFTY PRICETAG

nats "The TV behind me is about 3,500 dollars"

PRICES START AROUND 15-HUNDRED AND RANGE UP TO *TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.FOR NOW.

"If you can even wait a couple of months we're expecting prices to drop in the late fall and around Christmas buying season"

CONSUMER REPORTS SAYS THAT DROP MAY BE AS MUCH AS 30 PERCENT.

A FIGURE THAT COULD SHARPEN ULTRA HD'S APPEAL.
