BOY KILLED AFTER THROWN-OC, SS(3)

A SIX-YEAR-OLD HAS DIED AFTER HIS STEP-FATHER THREW HIM AGAINST A WALL

POLICE SAY --

JACK MONTGOMERY IS FACING A FELONY MURDER CHARGE --

AFTER HE CALLED 911 TO REPORT HE FOUND HIS STEPSON UNRESPONSIVE INSIDE THEIR ROOM AT THE MASTERS INN IN SEFFNER.

FIRST RESPONDERS FOUND THE CHILD LAYING IN A BED.

THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE THE BOY'S MOTHER WAS AT WORK --

AND IN MONTGOMERY'S CARE.

MONTGOMERY WAS THROWING THE 6-YEAR-OLD AROUND THE ROOM--

ALSO FORCING THE BOY'S SIBLINGS TO JOIN IN ON THE BEATING.

HE EVENTUALLY THREW THE BOY AGAINST A SHELF

AND THE BOY NEVER WOKE UP AFTER THAT.

MONTGOMERY WAS ARRESTED TODAY AND TAKEN TO THE HILLBOUROUGH COUNTY JAIL.

Investigators say the child and his three siblings were in Montgomery's care while their mom, Donya Shenita Russell, 28, was at work.

His siblings told investigators they woke up to find the 6-year-old in tears. They said they had witnessed Montgomery hit Brice and throw him around the room. They said their stepfather threatened them with violence if they would not join in and punch their brother, and one ended up striking the child out of fear.

Investigators said the children watched Montgomery pick Brice up by the leg and throw him into a shelf along a wall. They saw blood running out of the child's nose and mouth, and said their brother never woke up after that.

Detectives ultimately determined that Montgomery had punched the child in the face, mouth and stomach with a closed fist, threw the victim around the hotel room and shoved his face into the carpet.

Montgomery was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder. At this time, he's in the process of being booked at the Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County Return to index of stories...

Police: Kentucky man shoots 2 relatives, himself in Florida

Eds: APNewsNow.

POLK CITY, Fla. - Authorities say a Kentucky man shot two relatives he was visiting in Florida before turning the gun on himself.

In a statement Sunday, Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman Brian Bruchey said deputies found two men dead and one woman injured at a Polk City home Saturday evening.

Bruchey said Carolyn Stipe of Danville, Kentucky, identified the shooter as her husband, 68-year-old Rickie Gene Stipe.

Stipe told deputies her husband shot their nephew, 65-year-old James Hanks, and Hanks' wife, 59-year-old Kathleen Hanks, before shooting himself.

According to Bruchey's statement, Stipe said her husband refused treatment for schizophrenia. She told authorities her husband had been upset throughout the day, and he shot the other couple after James Hanks confronted him.

Bruchey said Kathleen Hanks was hospitalized with a gunshot wound, and Stipe was hospitalized with chest pains.

FORECAST-LYNX2 IN BAM

Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WALL

WX RUNDOWN:

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Forecast: Major changes coming to Southwest Florida's weather

The new year will usher in a new weather pattern over Southwest Florida that will persist through at least next weekend. This pattern means business; as our skies will cloud up, rain will become possible, the wind will pick up and temperatures will drop in a big way as early as New Year's Day Monday.

Let's start with tonight though. Luckily, the storm system bringing the weather changes is far enough away from our area that our New Year's Eve plans will have nice conditions. If you're headed to Naples Pier for the fireworks at 7:30 tonight, the balloon drop at 9 p.m. in downtown Fort Myers, or the midnight ball drop in the River District you can expect sky conditions to range from mostly clear to partly cloudy. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 60s by 7 and 8 p.m., with temperatures around 60 at the stroke of midnight. If your not a fan of cooler weather, be sure to have a sweater or sweatshirt on hand of any outdoor parties.

Related story: New Year's Eve celebrations in Southwest Florida

We'll start to notice changes in our weather after midnight on Monday morning. That's when clouds will be on the increase, along with the chance for some showers that will stay in the forecast through Monday. Though rain totals will likely be less than 1" on Monday, passing nuisance showers can be expected as cooler air in the afternoon keeps highs below average for the first day of January. Our high on Monday is forecast to hit just 68 degrees, with overnight lows on Monday falling into the low 50s in Lee and Collier Counties, with 40s in Charlotte and inland counties.

The system bringing the changing weather on Monday will influence our forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. This means that each day will feature cloudy to at times overcast conditions with mid-day highs in the low 60s. The wind will be breezy, with pesky showers in the region as well.

The second phase of this storm system will develop by Thursday and Friday. What will happen is that the storm system will move away from us, but in doing so pull down even colder air into South Florida. Given the way the forecast looks right now, highs on Thursday and Friday can be expected to only top out around 60 degrees, with regionwide overnight low temperatures in the 40s.

Boating Forecast

Boating is not advised on New Year's Day Monday. Winds will begin the day hailing from the southwest, but turn from the northwest in the afternoon as a result of the storm system moving in. The wind speed is likely to increase as the day goes on, picking up to 15-20 knots by afternoon. Inland waters are expected to by choppy.

With windy weather expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, please use caution if trying to boat for the next several days. Return to index of stories...
