FIRST WEATHER-CHROMA

Good morning, Southwest Florida!

Better bundle up! It's a chilly, windy and cloudy start to the morning with temperatures starting out in the 40s.

Factor in a strong northerly windy, and it feels as cold as the 30s for parts of Southwest Florida.

The wind will play a major part in our weather today as well as the next couple of days. Our wind will be northerly today from 15-20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, which will make the air feel several degrees below the actual temperature all day.

Aside from the wind chill aspect of our weather, don't expect much of a warm up, even later this afternoon.

Like Monday, we'll have lots of clouds blanketing our sky today, which will slow down the warming process dramatically.

Also, the strong northerly breeze will keep the chilly air flowing into Southwest Florida.

Tonight, expect the cloudy, chilly and breezy weather to continue, but temperatures won't get quite as cold as this morning--not yet, at least.

Before another blast of cold air arrives, we'll have to contend with some areas of rain Wednesday morning. This rain will generally be light to moderate, only resulting in a tenth of an inch or so of rain accumulation.

After the rain moves out by midday, we should manage to clear out much of the cloud cover and see some sunshine, but just as the sun peaks out, another blast of cold air arrives Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The coldest of the weather invades Southwest Florida Thursday-Saturday with morning lows as cold as the mid to upper 30s for those of us away from the coast and highs barely breaking out of the 50s Thursday and Friday afternoon.

By late this weekend, temperatures finally rebound into the 70s.

Get ready. It's going to be a cold week for Southwest Florida! Return to index of stories...

SOME RESTAURANTS TELL ME THEY'RE NOT SERVING TOMATOES RIGHT NOW, LIKE THIS MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN CLAY COUNTY. THEY SAY THEY'VE TEMPORARILY STOPPED SERVING TOMATOES AS HAVE A LOT OF OTHER RESTAURANTS BECAUSE THE PRICE HAS SOARED.

Dave Applegate, Shopper:

DELIVERING BLOOD TO HOSPITALS IS ABOUT TO GET A LOT EASIER FOR ONE CITY IN CALIFORNIA.

AS JANINE DE LA VEGA SHOWS US-

PALO ALTO IS LOOKING AT THE OPTION OF USING DRONES. Return to index of stories...

DRONES TO FLY BLOOD-PKG

DRONES LIKE THIS ARE ALREADY BEING USED IN SWITZERLAND TO DELIVER BLOOD FROM ONE MEDICAL FACILITY TO ANOTHER.

THE COMPANY BEHIND IT IS MATTERNET, IN MENLO PARK.

IT'S VIDEO SHOWS HOW BLOOD OR MEDICAL SAMPLES CAN BE PUT INTO A BOX, AND WITH A PUSH OF A BUTTON. FLOWN AUTONOMOUSLY BY A DRONE.

STANFORD BLOOD CENTER WANTS TO DO THE SAME.

Tho Pham, Medical Director, Stanford Blood Center: "We'll use a drone to deliver blood from Stanford Blood Center about 3.5 miles to Stanford Hospital down the road."

Janine De La Vega Reporting: "Doctors say it can take 30 minutes to one hour to transport blood from the blood center to here at Stanford Hospital. Using a drone to deliver, would take 10 minutes."

THE DELIVERY WOULD BE DROPPED AT A RECEIVING STATION THAT LOOKS LIKE THIS.

IT WOULD BE LOCATED IN A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT OR AREA CONVENIENT FOR MEDICAL STAFF TO ACCESS.

Andreas Rappopoulous, Matternet CEO: "With a system like this, you're able to save tremendous amount of time and generally reduce waste throughout the hospital system."

THE FAA RECENTLY ANNOUNCED IT WILL SELECT A SMALL NUMBER OF PILOT PROJECTS THAT WOULD HELP THE INTEGRATION OF DRONES.

PALO ALTO'S CITY MANAGER SAYS THEY'VE SUBMITTED THEIR APPLICATION AND ARE EXCITED THE PILOT PROGRAM COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN IN WHAT IS CONSIDERED THE BIRTHPLACE OF SILICON VALLEY.

James Keene, City Manager, Palo Alto-CA: "We saw it as a really opportune moment for us to be in potentially on the front end of developing policies that could affect cities in the future."

DOCTORS SAY IF APPROVED, THE DRONES WOULD BE USED TO FLY BLOOD IN EMERGENCIES, WHERE TIME IS CRITICAL, AND THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO TRANSPORT SUPPLIES QUICKLY.

STANFORD IS HOPEFUL THE PROJECT IS CHOSEN.

THE FAA IS EXPECTED TO MAKE A DECISION WITHIN THE NEXT 90 DAYS.

Larry:10 we want people to get out early morning as the sun is rising and take a nice brisk walk.

And if you need a little motivation—nat pop

The walking club at Cape Coral Healthy Life Center has just what you're looking for.

Justin:20 we have about a point seven mile loop. It's not quite a mile but we go around the lake and do

two laps around the lake. Then we come back here and then if people want to go a little longer we can

do a double loop and go for a mile and a half, so we have multiple levels.

STANDUP: every Wednesday morning at 7am walkers can meet here at the wellness center cape coral

and enjoy a nearly one mile walk around the pathway to discovery.

Christin Collins:13 our pathway offers a very safe environment where folks can park their cars, come

and enjoy our campus and be well instead of only visiting our hospital campus when they're sick.

Each walk will have a different leader and a different discussion including nutrition, stretching, and

diabetes prevention. The walking club started at the Healthy Life Center in coconut point. When the

healthy life center expanded to Cape Coral-- -organizers decided to add a second walking club.

Larry:33 it's a very popular thing and we wanted to move it closer to our Cape Coral folks.

Open to all levels of fitness, the walking club is an opportunity to socialize, get exercise, and learn new

ways to stay focused on your health. For Lee Health I'm Lindsey Morton. Return to index of stories...
