FIRST WEATHER WALL-WXWALL

Forecast: Cold settles in across Southwest Florida

Temperatures have dipped into the 30s in many parts of Southwest Florida Thursday morning. Gusty winds are making it feel even colder, in some cases it could feel like it's in the 20s as you step out the door. Gloves and hats are a good idea if you're outside early in the day as the wind will make you feel cold fairly quickly.

Once the sun comes up we'll see a quick warm up to more reasonable temperatures, but it will still be in the 40s until around 11 a.m. We are going to struggle to get above 60 degrees today and many areas won't get there. Expect upper 50s to right at 60 degrees in the mid afternoon with plenty of sunshine.

Winds will die down tonight which will take away the wind chill issue but should also allow our actual air temperatures to get a little bit colder! Most areas will wake up in the 30s again on Friday with freezing temperatures possible in DeSoto, Glades, and Hendry counties. It will be sunny again on Friday but highs will only be a degree or two warmer than today.

The weekend brings a change back to more normal weather. It will still be quite chilly in the mornings with more 30s on Saturday and 40s on Sunday. Sunday will also see us warm to the 70s again in the afternoon for the first time in almost a week!

For next week, we are tracking another front that could bring some showers to the area, but should not bring anything close to the cold conditions that we're experiencing now. Return to index of stories...

FROM FLORIDA TO MAINE -- MORE THAN 60 MILLION AMERICANS ARE FACING THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER.

MOS: It's amazing. I've never seen this much snow here.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA, GOT IT'S FIRST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL SINCE 1989 -- NEARLY 30 YEARS AGO.

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA GOT MORE THAN FIVE INCHES OF SNOW.

EVERY EAST COAST STATE FROM MAINE TO FLORIDA IS UNDER SOME TYPE OF WINTER STORM WATCH, OR WARNING, AND METEOROLOGISTS EXPECT IT TO STAY THAT WAY FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. AUTHORITIES ARE URGING RESIDENTS TO STAY INSIDE.

Deputy Chief Russell Wells / Jasper Co. Emergency Services: "If you don't have a reason to be out, don't be out.

THE NORTHEAST MAY SEE SIX TO TWELVE INCHES OF SNOW, ALONG WITH HURRICANE FORCE WINDS TODAY, THANKS TO A "BOMBOGENESIS," OR AREA OF RAPIDLY DECLINING LOW AIR PRESSURE. IN FACT, SOME AREAS COULD SEE WIND SPEEDS HIGHER THAN HURRICANE SANDY.

MOS: You always worry when there's a lot of wind blowing that the trees are going to come down.

Kathryn Garcia / NYC Sanitation Commissioner: We're going to have exceptionally strong winds, so anything that is falling in these cold temperatures is likely to blow around and drift.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, PARTS OF THE NORTHEAST WILL BE COLDER THAN MARS.

Herman Schaffer / NYC Emergency Management Assistant Commissioner: It's going to be incredibly low temperatures, it is going to get lower after the storm, so this weekend is going to be incredibly cold.

Trump left 'furious,' 'disgusted' by Bannon over new book

WASHINGTON - The White House says President Donald Trump was left feeling "furious" and "disgusted" after claims by his former top adviser Steve Bannon in a new book.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders complained Wednesday that the book contained "outrageous" and "completely false claims against the president, his administration and his family."

Criticism by the White House was spurred by an unflattering book by writer Michael Wolff that paints Trump as a leader who doesn't understand the weight of the presidency and who spends evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television and talking on the phone to old friends.

The book also quotes Bannon as calling contact by Trump's son with a Russian lawyer "treasonous."

Trump said in a statement that Bannon "lost his mind" when he lost his job. Return to index of stories...

PRESIDENT TRUMP'S LAWYER IS THREATENING "IMMINENT LEGAL ACTION" AGAINST STEVE BANNON --

ACCUSING THE PRESIDENT'S FORMER CHIEF STRATEGIST OF *DEFAMATION* --

AND ARGUING THAT HE VIOLATED A NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT WHEN SPEAKING TO THE AUTHOR OF *THIS* BOMBSHELL NEW BOOK.

EXCERPTS PUBLISHED IN THE GUARDIAN QUOTE BANNON, SUGGESTING THAT DONALD TRUMP JUNIOR, JARED KUSHNER AND PAUL MANAFORT HAD BEEN "TREASONOUS" AND "UNPATRIOTIC" FOR MEETING WITH RUSSIANS PROMISING DIRT ON HILLARY CLINTON AT TRUMP TOWER IN 2016. Return to index of stories...

BANNON BLOW UP-PKG

LESS THAN A YEAR INTO HIS PRESIDENCY, DONALD TRUMP IS THREATENING TO SUE A FORMER MEMBER OF HIS INNER CIRCLE.

A LAWYER FOR THE PRESIDENT SAID HIS FIRM SENT A CEASE-AND-DESIST LETTER TO FORMER WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL STEVE BANNON, CITING LEGAL CLAIMS SUCH AS LIBEL AND SLANDER AND ACCUSING HIM OF BREACHING A WRITTEN AGREEMENT OF NON-DISPARAGEMENT AND CONFIDENTIALITY.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ISSUED A SERIES OF STRONGLY-WORDED TWEETS TO OPEN 2018, BUT FOR STEVE BANNON, HE ISSUED A FULL STATEMENT.

IN IT, TRUMP SAYS, "WHEN WAS FIRED, HE NOT ONLY LOST HIS JOB; HE LOST HIS MIND."

AT LENGTH, TRUMP DOWNPLAYS ANY INFLUENCE HIS FORMER CHIEF STRATEGIST MIGHT HAVE HAD.

THE STATEMENT AND THE THREAT OF LEGAL ACTION COMES AFTER THE GUARDIAN, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, AND NEW YORK MAGAZINE OBTAINED EXCERPTS OF A SOON-TO-BE-RELEASED BOOK, "FIRE AND FURY: INSIDE THE TRUMP WHITE HOUSE" -- EXCERPTS OF BANNON CALLING TRUMP'S DAUGHTER, IVANKA, "DUMB AS A BRICK," AND MAKING STATEMENTS SUCH AS, "THEY'RE GOING TO CRACK DON JUNIOR LIKE AN EGG ON NATIONAL T-V."

A SOURCE CLOSE TO THE WEST WING TELLS C-N-N THAT WAS THE PRESIDENT'S TIPPING POINT, WHEN BANNON "GOT PERSONAL" AND ATTACKED TRUMP'S FAMILY.

NOW, A NUMBER OF REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES BACKED BY BANNON ARE GIVING HIM THE COLD SHOULDER.

MICHAEL GRIMM, SEEKING HIS OLD HOUSE SEAT IN NEW YORK, HAS PRAISED BANNON IN THE PAST BUT RELEASED A STATEMENT WEDNESDAY, REFERRING TO BANNON'S COMMENTS AS "DISTURBING," "BASELESS ATTACKS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT'S FAMILY".

.AND SENATE HOPEFULS PATRICK MORRISEY IN WEST VIRGINIA AND KELLI WARD IN ARIZONA BOTH DOWNPLAYED BANNON'S SUPPORT AS JUST ONE OF MANY CONSERVATIVE ENDORSEMENTS FOR THEIR CAMPAIGNS.

NATS OF BACK PAIN—

it can limit your physical activity—but physical therapists say back pain shouldn't keep you from being active.

6:46 we want that person to continue to work out at the gym and stay strong and healthy.

STANDUP: If a patient is living with something like arthritis, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis, or a back injury, it's important they keep exercising to prevent the pain from getting worse. Physical therapy can teach them ways to exercise safely without reinjuring their back.

2:04 it is important that well trained eyes are keeping an eye on you and point out if your form is not good because otherwise you're going out there and potentially hurt yourself.

Before you start exercising make sure you warm up and stretch to loosen the muscles around the back.

1:18 we want to have strength and flexibility.

To prevent more back pain, it's important to strengthen your core.

:40 We want you to get strong in your core but core exercises are probably better done on a mat than on a machine.

When you're strengthening your core make sure you're not adding weight that's too heavy.

3:38 you're not going to strengthen your core muscles by lifting a heavy weight and not focusing on those muscles because what will happen is those much bigger muscles that are not a part of the core will kick in.

Also, maintain good body mechanics—like lifting from the knees, not the back.

:58 really have good technique and don't do so much weight that you end up sacrificing that technique because that can end up stressing the spine.

Keeping active with safe exercises and stretches will keep the back from becoming stiff and more painful. For Lee Health I'm Lindsey Morton. Return to index of stories...
