FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

A very chilly morning here in SWFL with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. Most places this morning feeling like they are close to freezing when you factor in the wind chill. Expect a cold and breezy day even as we get into the afternoon with our highs making it up into the upper 50s.

Make sure you are bundled up tomorrow morning because temperatures are expected to be even colder than today! If you haven't already, you will want to bring in any outdoor plants and pets shouldn't be outside for too long. Highs will make it up into the low 60s with mainly clear skies.

These clear conditions will allow our morning temperatures to continue to stay very chilly so keep the coat around as we head into the weekend.

Relief is on the way and we will warm up as we get closer to next week when our highs will be back in the mid 70s. Return to index of stories...

ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS RESCINDED THE OBAMA-ERA POLICY SHIELDING STATE-LEGALIZED MARIJUANA FROM FEDERAL PROSECUTION.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT DESCRIBING THE MOVE AS A "RETURN TO THE RULE OF LAW" "TO DISRUPT CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS, TACKLE THE GROWING DRUG CRISIS AND THWART VIOLENT CRIME…"

CALIFORNIA'S LT GOVERNOR CALLING SESSION'S MOVE AN "IDEOLOGICAL TEMPER TANTRUM"

AND COLORADO REPUBLICAN SENATOR CORY GARDNER THREATENING TO HOLD JUSTICE DEPARTMENT NOMINEES UNTIL THE DECISION IS REVERSED.

Sot/ Sen Cory Gardner

"There needs to be an explanation to the people within the industry to the people of Colorado who voted for legalization and to understand exactly why the Department of Justice went back on its word."

MARIJUANA ADVOCATES BELIEVE THE POLITICAL FALLOUT WILL STRETCH INTO THE 2018 ELECTIONS.

sot/ Erik Altieri - Exec Dir. of Norml

"The reform of our marijuana laws be it medical, decriminalization or legalization is one of the few policies that has bipartisan majority support. There is no thirst for us to go back to the era of Reagan and Just Say No."

BUT THOSE WHO APPLAUD THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S MOVE SAY IT'S KEY TO REGULATING AN INDUSTRY THEY BELIEVE CAUSES MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

Sot/ Will Jones, SAM

"If you look at alcohol and tobacco right now for everyone dollar brought in though taxes on them, and they are taxed heavily, ten dollars is spent in societal costs. We are already seeing the same pattern emerging in Colorado, Washington state and places that have commercialized marijuana."

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

WHEN JOHN BELL SAUNTERED INTO THE LATINO CELL STORE ON APRIL 17TH, CLERK KARINA LEON KNEW IMMEDIATELY, IT WAS A ROBBERY.

"As soon as he entered he just pointed the gun at me, and I knew instantly I'm getting robbed again."

HAVING BEEN ROBBED JUST WEEKS BEFORE, LEON DECIDED TO JUMP INTO ACTION.

SHE RUSHED OUT THE CUSTOMERS, THEN LOCKED THE DOOR.

BELL, HAD NO WHERE TO GO.

OVER THE NEXT 6 MINUTES. BELL TRIES SEVERAL TACTICS, INCLUDING SHOOTING AT THE DOOR LOCK.

POLICE SAY, THAT METHOD BACKFIRED.

"What he did was he broke the lock on the inside so when he found keys and tries to make his way out, he wasn't able to get out because he messed the lock up."

EVENTUALLY HE RESORTED TO BEGGING.

"At some point I kind of did feel bad when I saw him get on his knees and beg me."

BUT LEON WAS RESOLUTE, CALLING 911 AND WAITING FOR HOUSTON POLICE TO TAKE ARRIVE -- ARRESTING BELL, WHO AT THAT POINT HAD ALL BUT GIVEN UP.

"I think once he realized he was done, he just stood there and waited and put his hands in the air."

IT TURNS OUT, BELL WAS NO STRANGER TO BEING IN TROUBLE.

HE WAS ALREADY ON DEFERRED ADJUDICATION FOR ANOTHER CASE.

BUT THIS TIME, HE WASN'T GETTING AWAY, AND THE VIDEO EVEN CAUSED VETERAN OFFICERS TO SHAKE THEIR HEAD.
