FIRST WEATHER-STORM TRACKER

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Temperatures have dipped into the 30s in many parts of Southwest Florida Thursday morning. Gusty winds are making it feel even colder, in some cases it could feel like it's in the 20s as you step out the door. Gloves and hats are a good idea if you're outside early in the day as the wind will make you feel cold fairly quickly.

Once the sun comes up we'll see a quick warm up to more reasonable temperatures, but it will still be in the 40s until around 11 a.m. We are going to struggle to get above 60 degrees today and many areas won't get there. Expect upper 50s to right at 60 degrees in the mid afternoon with plenty of sunshine.

Winds will die down tonight which will take away the wind chill issue but should also allow our actual air temperatures to get a little bit colder! Most areas will wake up in the 30s again on Friday with freezing temperatures possible in DeSoto, Glades, and Hendry counties. It will be sunny again on Friday but highs will only be a degree or two warmer than today.

The weekend brings a change back to more normal weather. It will still be quite chilly in the mornings with more 30s on Saturday and 40s on Sunday. Sunday will also see us warm to the 70s again in the afternoon for the first time in almost a week!

For next week, we are tracking another front that could bring some showers to the area, but should not bring anything close to the cold conditions that we're experiencing now. Return to index of stories...

Day Planner

BAD FLU SEASON-2SH,VO

NOT ONLY ARE SOUTHWEST FLORIDIANS BRACING FOR THE COLD BUT ALSO FOR WHAT HEALTH EXPERTS SAY IS ONE OF THE MOST CONTAGIOUS FLU SEASONS IN YEARS.

ACCORDING TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH-- LEE HEALTH HAS REPORTED 330 CONFIRMED FLUE CASES IN THE LAST 3 DAYS.

LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME-- THAT NUMBER WAS 140.

DOCTORS SAY THERE'S STILL TIME TO GET VACCINATED-- AND STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF HAND WASHING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD.

AND WHILE THE COLD WEATHER DOESN'T PLAY A FACTOR IN WORSENING FLU SYMPTOMS, DOCTORS SAY IT COULD LEAD PEOPLE TO GATHER TOGETHER INSIDE MORE-- SPREADING THE VIRUS. Return to index of stories...
