FORECAST-WALL

WX RUNDOWN:

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Forecast: Warmer weather starts tonight

Southwest Florida is finally turning a corner. Thanks to winds that now are coming at us from the east, our prolonged cold spell is over. Instead of temperatures falling into the 30s and 40s tonight, overnight lows will be much more seasonable for this part of the state in early January.

By sunrise on Monday morning, areas of Lee and Collier Counties will be in the mid 50s; that's right on par with where we normally find ourselves this time of year. A Monday morning temp of 54 can be expected in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, with 55 degrees in communities around Naples.

Through Monday afternoon temperatures will warm up rather quickly, topping out in the middle 70s after lunchtime. The official forecast high is 77 degrees in Fort Myers, with the rest of the region ranging between 74 and 78 degrees.

Rain chances will be low on Monday with our afternoon highlighted by a blend of sun and clouds during the daytime hours.

For the work week ahead, a broad storm system is expected to be moving across the northern Gulf of Mexico. With this system in the region, we'll need to leave the opportunity open for more cloud cover here in South Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday along with at least the chance of a few showers. Despite a bit more cloud cover temperatures will still be warmer than where they've been for most of the year, popping into the upper 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Boating Forecast

No advisories are posted in the Gulf waters on Monday for boaters from the National Weather Service. Mariners can expect east winds between 10 and 15 knots with open seas away from the beaches cresting around 2 feet. A moderate chop is expected on bays and inland waterways. SOUTH FORT MYERS HIGH SCHOOL'S DALLAS CRAWFORD IS AN OFFENSIVE QUALITY CONTROL COACH FOR THE BULLDOGS.

HIS SQUAD IS A FOUR-POINT UNDERDOG IN WHAT SHOULD BE A KNOCK-DOWN, DRAG-OUT BATTLE.

"They've got tremendous athletes, tremendous speed, and they've had some injuries to deal with, they've overcome those and created some depth with a lot of the injuries they've had getting some guys back, but the biggest concern for us will be the size of the offensive and defensive lines and the physicality of those guys."

"Two teams that are fairly evenly matched and two teams that philosophically are not a whole lot dissimilar in terms of the things they want to do to win -- run the ball, don't turn the ball over, play good field position, be good on special teams, so it's going to be the errors and execution that have a critical effect on the outcome of the game."
