WEATHER-CHROMA

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

It's another cool and breezy start in Southwest Florida, jacket weather as we bottom out in the low 40s this morning. Temperatures will rise to the upper 60s to low 70s today, with the best chance for 70 degree highs in Collier County. This should be the last morning of widespread lows in the 40s as our warming trend continues. Winds will turn to out of the east today and moisten up the air over South Florida to something more typical for this time of year.

As a result of the warmer and more humid air expected overnight, lows will only drop into the 50s on Monday morning. Highs will reach the upper 70s with partly cloudy skies on Monday.

A developing system over the Rockies will reach our side of the Gulf of Mexico Monday night and hang around for a couple of days. This is expected to be a fairly weak area of low pressure which will leave us cloudy and showery weather through Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain chances will stay below 40 percent and any rain totals will be low over this period. The cloudy and unsettled pattern continues into the second half of the week with a slight chance for a shower or two each day.

Temperatures will stay in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees Tuesday through Friday. A cold front will likely bring slightly cooler weather by the end of next weekend. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

The red spot on this spine model shows a disc herniation.

14:26 if this is pushing against this nerve it can cause, what people refer to as sciatica, pain shooting

down the leg and it often time it can be excruciating.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Jeffery Henn says it's one of the most common complaints of pain he hears from

patients.

4:14 when we meet the patient we take the history, we do a physical exam, and then we go over

imaging studies and based on all of that we come up with a plan, hopefully non-surgical.

But if a patient *needs surgery doctors say there are options.

14:59 the original way this was done is you make a fairly large incision in the skin CUT work your way

down, put retractors in there and expose all of this.

Leaving the patient with a long scar and often, a longer recovery.

15:20 the problem is exactly right there CUT So using an x-ray and using dilating techniques we bring a

small tube right here to this area, look down through that tube, find the nerve and as soon as we find

the nerve we know that the disc herniation is going to be right there.

STANDUP: During this type of minimally invasive procedure, surgeons can remove the disc herniation

leaving them with a smaller scar.

After a 45 minutes procedure, patients are able to leave the hospital the same day and soon be back to

their normal routine.

8:46 many times patients don't even know that there were options where there could be a tiny little

incision to fix the problem.

Stopping the pain and getting the patient back to what they enjoy. For Lee Health I'm Lindsey Morton. Return to index of stories...

Winds will turn to out of the east today and moisten up the air over South Florida to something more typical for this time of year.

As a result of the warmer and more humid air expected overnight, lows will only drop into the 50s on Monday morning. Highs will reach the upper 70s with partly cloudy skies on Monday.
