FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Forecast: Increasing humidity with some morning fog

Despite a broad area of unsettled weather influencing the weather over Florida, our part of the state can expect fairly quiet conditions tonight. Well after midnight temperatures will only fall into the low and mid 60s for most areas, with communities like Fort Myers and Cape Coral cooling off to around 63 degrees by sunrise on Wednesday morning.

Just like we had this morning, it will be possible for a few areas of patchy fog to develop during the morning commute times early on Wednesday. Though the visibility shouldn't drop to terribly low levels, keep it in mind as the times when it will likely be thickest is just after sunrise through the 8 a.m. hour tomorrow morning.

As we move into the forecast for Wednesday, humidity will be on the rise as dew point temperatures will pop up into the mid 60s from time to time. We'll call for a blend of sun and clouds during the day as afternoon highs charge into the upper 70s near 80 degrees. Temperatures this mild are above average for early January, as normally highs only top out around 74 degrees in the afternoon. Though a few rain showers can't be categorically ruled out in the afternoon, coverage of anything developing should stay isolated.

Boating conditions look fair on Wednesday with light northeast winds in the morning before turning onshore after lunchtime thanks to the sea breeze off the Gulf of Mexico. Smooth conditions are expected on the bays and inland waters, and no advisories are posted for the Gulf from the National Weather Service.

Our weather on Thursday and Friday should continue to be mild with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to around 80. If you're a fan of warm and humid weather soak it up while you can, because another cold front is forecast to move over South Florida between late Friday and Saturday. When it does this we'll need to account for at least the chance of a passing shower or two on Friday, but more noticeable will be the drop in temperatures. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be considerably cooler only topping out near 71 degrees on Saturday and 67 degrees on Sunday. Return to index of stories...

OLYMPICS PKG-OCPKG

WE ARE LESS THAN A MONTH FROM THE WINTER OLYMPICS.

YOU'LL SEE ALL THE ACTION RIGHT HERE ON N-B-C-2.

FOR MANY OF US, A LOT OF THE SPORTS IN THE WINTER GAMES ARE COMPLETELY FOREIGN.

BEYOND THE BOBSLED OR LUGE, CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE TO SKI JUMP?

THESE MEN AND WOMEN ARE FLYING!

Ryan Stassel: I can normally keep my composure pretty well, but my fear of heights is when I'm actually on the elevator going to the top of the ramp. You know you're looking down and you may or may not be able to see the bottom depending on how snowy it is.

Maggie Voisin: Right before I drop in I always take a deep breath and I'm like, "all right, you got this."

Stassel: Right as you take off you hear your snowboard go, whishâ?¦ and from there it's just, it's timeless. Everything kind of slows down.

Voisin: Everything just goes blank.

Sarah Hendrickson: Our skis are like our wings. You're flying for about 90 to 100 to 120 meters.

Stassel: By the time you land and you're riding out of it, it all kind of hits you and that's where this like, this rush of energy all comes together.

Announcer: Stassel puts it to his feet like a champion!

Hendrickson: I always just think back to why I love ski jumping and that's the flying part. That's what I live for.

Shaun White: You're getting to fly in your normal day and routine. The perspective I'm getting from being that high in the air and going that fast down the mountain is something not a lot of people get to see.

Jamie Anderson: But when it connects, it feels so good. Return to index of stories...
