GOOD MORNING-VO IN BAM, TOWERCAM IN BAM

GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA--

I'M CLAY MILLER.

AND I'M RACHEL PIERCE.

N-B-C-2 HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THIS BREAKING DECISION FROM OVERNIGHT--

AHEAD OF TODAY'S CONTINUOUS TALKS IN WASHINGTON OVER IMMIGRATION.

BEFORE WE TAKE YOU LIVE FROM WASHINGTON WITH THE LATEST--

LETS SEND THINGS OVER TO FIRST ALERT METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING--

TRACKING THE FOGGY START TO YOUR MORNING. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WXCTR

Today's Weather Story

Forecast: Thick fog and mild temperatures

The fog that was patchy yesterday has morphed into pea-soup this morning across most, if not all of Southwest Florida. Take care on area roads as limited visibility will stick around most of the morning. Expect some improvement in conditions by lunchtime. Morning temperatures will be in the mid 60s rising to the low 70s. Normally we start the day off in the 50s in early January.

Once the fog and low clouds break up later today don't expect tons of sunshine, rather partly to mostly cloudy skies. A system wheeling around the southern tip of Florida will keep things cloudy and bring showers and storms to the Miami area this afternoon. A few showers could drift into interior parts of Southwest Florida, but activity on our coast today will be sparse with rain chances at 20 percent or less today. Despite the clouds the warm and humid air across our region will give us a shot at the first 80 degree afternoon of 2018 today.

The mild weather will continue for the rest of the work week with more fog impacting the morning drive time. A cold front will approach the area on Friday and give us a chance for a few showers with cloudy conditions.

Once the front passes Friday night we'll see a big swing back to cooler weather for the weekend. Lows will drop to the middle and upper 40s with highs in the 60s and low 70s. The cooler, drier air will give us plenty of sunshine though for weekend activities.

Conditions for early next week look dry with cool to average temperatures.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

BREAKING NEWS OVERNIGHT ON IMMIGRATION:

A FEDERAL JUDGE IS HALTING PRESIDENT TRUMP'S PLAN TO END PROTECTIONS FOR "DREAMERS" - YOUNG IMMIGRANTS BROUGHT TO THE U-S ILLEGALLY.

THE RULING CAME DOWN AFTER AN EXTRAORDINARY TELEVISED IMMIGRATION MEETING AT THE WHITE HOUSE.

A VICTORY OVERNIGHT FOR IMMIGRANTS BROUGHT TO THE US ILLEGALLY AS CHILDREN.

A FEDERAL JUDGE SAID THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MUST RENEW PROTECTIONS ALLOWING THEM TO STAY HERE LEGALLY. WHILE COURTS CONSIDER IF PRESIDENT TRUMP CAN END THE DACA PROGRAM IN MARCH

CALIFORNIA'S ATTORNEY GENERAL WHO LAUNCHED THAT CHALLENGE CALLS THE RULING "A HUGE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION."

IT CAME HOURS AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP - IN A RARE TELEVISED NEGOTIATION - SAID HE'S WILLING TO FIX DACA FIRST

AND DEAL WITH OTHER IMMIGRATION ISSUES LATER.

"I'll take the heat, I don't care. I don't care. I'll take all the heat you want to give me."

HIS PRIORITIES: DACA

BORDER SECURITY

CHAIN MIGRATION

AND ENDING THE VISA LOTTERY

NOT THE BORDER WALL HE JUST REQUESTED $18 BILLION DOLLARS TO BUILD.

"We don't need a 2000 mile wall. We don't need a wall where you have rivers and mountains."

THE PRESIDENT'S SPOKESWOMAN INSISTS HE'S NOT ABANDONING THE WALL.

"We certainly believe that the wall is part of border security."

CONSERVATIVES ACCUSE THE PRESIDENT OF GOING SOFT ON IMMIGRATION.

Iowa

"He should not be negotiating against himself here - he has a mandate to end DACA and he has a mandate to build a wall."

LAWMAKERS DISAGREE WHETHER EXTENDING DACA SHOULD BE PART OF THE BUDGET.

Kentucky

"It will not be a part of any overall spending agreement."

New York

"We expect it to be in the bill."

THAT BUDGET IS DUE IN NINE DAYS AND CAN'T PASS WITHOUT SOME DEMOCRATS VOTING YES. Return to index of stories...
