BATTALION CHIEF ARREST-PKG

A Charlotte county fire battalion chief under arrest for attacking a teenager.

"He never should have done that"

Nearly 2 weeks ago, battalion chief Jon Miller was stopped at a red light behind this silver Mercedes driven by a teenager. Police say Miller got Out of his car, opened the teens door, grabbed the drivers arm and started yelling at them. When Miller opened the back door, the driver started filming on his cell phone. Miller then snatched the phone and drove off.

"It wasn't smart I don't know what set him off. Who knows what happened prior to that"

The teens tracked the phone to millers home. Miller came out with a gun in his pocket. When the teen rolled down the window, he grabbed the driver by the hair after he tried to open the glovebox to grab his pepper spray.

"That would freak me out if someone started reaching into their glovebox. You don't know what they're doing"

Police came and broke everything up, but didn't make any arrests until they were able to get their hands on the cell phone video the teens took. They say the video shows multiple arguments and Miller grabbing the teens head.

"It's just a bad situation all the way around"

Miller told police he first approached the teens after they attempted to ram his car. He also say one threatened him with a knife, but Police say there were no tire marks in that area to support that.

"We don't know what happened beforehand so everyone was wrong. I think everyone was wrong"

Miller was arrested on battery and burglary charges on Monday. Return to index of stories...

ICE RAID BREAKOUT-OC, SS

FEDERAL AGENTS SAY THESE RAIDS ARE A FOLLOW-UP TO AN INVESTIGATION THAT STARTED FIVE YEARS AGO IN THE NORTHEAST.

IN 2013 -

IMMIGRATION AGENTS ARRESTED NINE 7-ELEVEN FRANCHISE OWNERS FOR HIDING UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS -

STEALING THEIR IDENTITES AND MONEY.

THEY WERE ORDERED TO PAY TWO-POINT-SIX MILLION DOLLARS IN BACK PAY

In 2013, HSI conducted an investigation into various 7-Eleven franchises that resulted in the arrest of nine franchise owners and managers for conspiring to commit wire fraud, stealing identities and concealing and harboring illegal aliens employed at their stores. All but one, who remained a fugitive until his arrest in November 2017, pleaded guilty and were ordered to pay more than $2.6 million in restitution for back wages stolen from workers.

Today's service of NOIs throughout the United States serves as a follow-up to ensure the company has taken the proper steps towards more responsible hiring and employment practices. Return to index of stories...

Eric Jackson

PIO, Lee County Mosquito Control District

53:12 a big focus in what we're doing now is looking at what are called UAS which are unmanned aerial systems 18 and you've probably seen just like with what NBC 2 uses drones is the other name for them 23

STANDUP: Eric Jackson has seen us use Sky2 for our newscasts- he says drones like this one have more uses than you think.

54:02 were look at methods where we could actually use that for surveillance to monitor and see where we have larvae in the county places that are harder to get to 12

CURRENTLY- INSPECTORS HAVE THE DIFFICULT TASK OF LOCATING MOSQUITO LARVAE BEFORE THEY BECOMES ADULTS.

58:48 our inspectors are out in the field and in those places where those mosquitoes are breeding and our inspectors are getting bitten 54

DRONES WOULD RELIEVE THEM OF THAT DUTY-PLUS SAVE TIME AND MONEY.

05 where it takes them 8 hours to do ten acres you can do ten acres in about an hour 09

SO WITH ALL OF THESE BENEFITS- WHY ARENT THEY USING DRONES YET?

05:49 being a government agency the rules may be different for us than it would be for a private citizen or even a private company 57

AND THEY SAY THOSE RULES-AREN'T EVEN WRITTEN YET.

06:30 what we need to do is make sure that we're complying and the FAA is working on those rules as we speak 36

SO FOR NOW-THEIR TIMELINE IS UNCLEAR.

00:32 for us it's still something that's a ways into the future 36 Return to index of stories...

BILL FOR IRMA VICTIMS-PKG

HOMES RAVISHED BY WATER.

12:30:13 It was right at 4 feet

AND WIND.

Skip / 12:28:24 We have roof damage from a tree on the roof.

ALL BROUGHT ABOUT BY HURRICANE IRMA IN SEPTEMBER.

skip Ruck /. 12:26:45 This for us basically is in excess of a $100k incident. 12:26:50

DAMAGES SO SEVERE THAT-

SKIP RUCK AND HIS WIFE WERE UNABLE TO MOVE BACK INTO THEIR HOME—-

REPAIRS CONTINUING STILL TODAY.

Skip / 12:27:00 I think undoubtedly our property values have plummeted. 12:27:02

HE AND HIS NEIGHBORS THOUGH ARE STILL EXPECTED TO PAY THEIR PROPERTY TAXES.

Dane Eagle/ State Rep. / /12:54:56 We shouldn't be adding insult to injury by saying you're not in your home all year so here's a bill for the home. 12:55:01

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DANE EAGLE WANTS TO EXEMPT PEOPLE LIKE LIZ SHELPER WHO STILL CAN'T RETURN HOME— FOUR MONTHS LATER.

LIz Shelper/ Irma Victim /. 12:14:25 We couldn't stay there because of fear of mold. Were just now wrapping it up. We've been displaced for a while. 12;14:35

UNDER EAGLE'S BILL SHE AND OTHERS COULD SAVE THOUSANDS.

Liz / 13:14:45 That would be a tremendous help because we're having to pay for pod storage of all our belongings. 13:14:52

AND SPENDING THOUSANDS FOR THE BELONGINGS THAT WERE DESTROYED BY THE STORMS.

12:28:05 Fences, irrigation the list goes on and on.

MANY HERE HOPING THEY'LL EVENTUALLY REMOVE PAYING PROPERTY TAXES FROM THEIR LIST OF THINGS TO GET DONE.

FGCU SOT-OCSOTWIPE

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR AN ENCORE?

THE F-G-C-U BASKETBALL TEAM LOOKED SO GOOD ON SATURDAY IN ITS FIRST CONFERENCE GAME OF THE SEASON.

THE EAGLES WILL TRY TO DUPLICATE THAT SUCCESS TOMORROW NIGHT AT ALICO ARENA AGAINST U-S-C UPSTATE.

WE KNOW THIS MUCH FROM THE NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE -- F-G-C-U HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE REALLY DANGEROUS.

"Wichita State's obviously a top-ten team and Rhode Island's in, you know, top, fringe top 25, I mean, we showed in spurts what we could do. I mean, Rhode Island got away from us 'cause we turned it over but, Wichita State, it's a one-point game with two minutes left. I think we saw some things and a glimmer of what we can do." FGCU WOMEN-SOTTOPS

"In general, our communication in all aspects of basketball. We're not as loud and as vocal, or speak as early as we need to, and then, we don't listen to each other and respond accordingly, so that's a pretty major thing that, if we got it corrected, would, you know, not be, 'hey, we'll be 3 or 4 points better a game. It's more like 15 to 20, so we're gonna work at it. We're gonna show 'em where it's hurting us, and hopefully we make the correction." Return to index of stories...

EVERBLADES SOT-OCSOT

THE EVERBLADES WILL GET BACK IT ON FRIDAY.

FLORIDA IS COMING OFF A BRUTAL ROAD TRIP -- THREE GAMES IN THREE DAYS -- BUSSING FROM FLORIDA TO SOUTH CAROLINA TO ATLANTA AND BACK AGAIN.

THAT SAID, THE 'BLADES WON TWO OF THREE, WHICH IS TESTAMENT TO THEIR VETERAN LEADERS.

"Those guys do a really good job, you know, just showing us the way and, you know, if we ever have a question for those guys on how to, you know, handle ourselves on or off the ice, they're there, and they give us their full support, so it's been a big step for me, coming from junior hockey, but it's been an easy one with guys like that."
