CHARCO FIREFIGHTER FOLO-PKG

A Charlotte county battalion chief under fire tonight.

After video shows him attacking a teenager - and walking around with a gun in his pocket.

Matteo

"I didn't think a man would actually be pulling my hair like this, thats something kids do"

Police say Jon Miller got out of his his car and approached two teenagers at this stop light in Venice.

"He opens my car door, grabs me by the arm and tries to pull me out"

"We're going to have fun with you Because he was claiming he was a cop and I was going to get in trouble after"

He took the teens cell phone and drove off. the teens tracked the phone to his home to get it back, that's when they say Miller came out of his house.

"He took two steps back and then pulled out his gun and started aiming it at the both of us, so I told Matteo start rolling up the window"

Police eventually arrested Miller for battery and burglary after seeing the cell phone video.

"I think the scariest part was waiting in the car for someone to help but no one came"

Nat

Miller was demoted in 2009 -- after an internal investigation showed behavior lacking in judgement, professionalism, and leadership. The report said the environment existing under him was intimidating, chaotic, and belligerent. He had to take part in an anger management program. But an arbitrator found the county took too long to discipline Miller after learning about the allegations, so the punishment was overturned.

"Ridiculous we thought theses people were supposed to protect us, but now they're attacking us" Return to index of stories...

CHARCO FIREFIGHTER FOLO-REM-LIVE

THE TEENS SAY THEY NEVER SAW MILLER BEFORE HE CAME UP TO THEIR CAR DOOR.

THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT SET HIM OFF.

I TRIED TO SPEAK WITH MILLER ABOUT THIS AGAIN TODAY BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE DOOR.

HE'S ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE FOLLOWING AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION.

COLLIER IRMA DEBRIS-OTS

CREWS IN COLLIER COUNTY ARE CLEARING DEBRIS LEFT IN WATERWAYS AFTER HURRICANE IRMA.

TODAY-

THEY'RE FOCUSING ON GOLDEN GATE CITY AND THE GOODLETTER-FRANK CANALS.

THE COUNTY SAYS THE PROCESS COULD TAKE AWHILE -

AND ASKS RESIDENTS TO BE PATIENT.

Hurricane Irma Waterway Debris Cleanup Begins

Collier County's Hurricane Irma-related debris collection mission was the largest in the state with the quickest recovery. Phase one of Collier County's storm debris recovery mission for county maintained canals has begun in Golden Gate City and the Goodlette-Frank canal areas. Storm debris removal for canals, navigable and non-navigable waterways is a slow and lengthy process due to the unique characteristic of each waterway. Depending on the size and type of debris found in the waterway, the debris and monitoring contactor must complete a full assessment of the debris and logistically coordinate the mobilization of the specific equipment required to remove the debris. Residents are asked to be patient with this phase of the storm debris recovery mission, as collections will be slow and ongoing.

Storm debris collections for non-county maintained navigable and non-navigable waterways is currently under assessment as jurisdiction for those water bodies will be dictated by the state, federal or county agencies that govern them. Storm debris removal for non-county maintained navigable and non-navigable waterways is scheduled for phase two of the storm debris recovery mission.

Residents with questions related to the collection of storm debris for canals, drainage ditches, navigable and non-navigable waterways, should contact Customer Service at 252-8924. Return to index of stories...

FIRST RESPONDERS IN NORTH PORT HAD TO FIGHT THROUGH A SWARM OF BEES TO RESCUE SOME PEOPLE WHO CRASHED THEIR CAR ON I-75.

POLICE SAY THE CAR FLEW OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HIT A BUNCH OF BEE BOXES -

CAUSING THOUSANDS OF BEES TO SWARM AROUND THE CAR.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT USED FOAM SPRAY TO CLEAR THE BEES LONG ENOUGH TO GET THE VICTIMS OUT OF THE CAR.

What's the buzz? Great job by first responders this afternoon battling bees to help rescue some crash victims at MM 172 on I-75. The single vehicle left the roadway, became airborne over/through a barbwire fence and struck a tree. In the process of the crash, the vehicle drove through numerous bee boxes located on the property. This caused huge issues with getting to the vehicle, as there were thousands of bees swarming the area. With lives on the line, Charlotte County and North Port Fire Department's were able to clear the area of bees long enough to extract the two patients by using high-pressure foam spray. FHP arrived and completed the crash investigation with help from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. Thanks to NPPD's Jared Fegan for some brave camera work. #teamwork #beework Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Expect another round of fog tonight as humidity is relatively high and winds will turn more southwesterly ahead of Friday's cold front. Ahead of the front it will remain warm and humid. Some sea fog may even be pushed in with the southwesterly winds after our morning fog clears. Rain showers will be limited to the evening hours. The weekend will be noticeably cooler and breezy. Temperatures stay below average for at least 5 days. Our coldest morning will be Monday morning with temperatures in the lower 40s and mid to upper 30s inland. Return to index of stories...

JENSI KRAMPEL IS REPRESENTING 5 STATES IN THE PGA DRIVE CHIP AND PUTT.

NBC-2'S ANGELO CARUSO SHOWS US WHAT SHE HAD TO DO TO MAKE IT THIS FAR.

Jensi Krampel qualified for the PGA Drive Chip and Putt back in October. She's representing roughly five states as a regional finalist winner, only 80 total participate so it's a very big deal. Here's more info about it

https:/www.drivechipandputt.com/article/drive-chip-and-putt-regional-champions-earn-invitations-to-national-finals-at-augusta-national-golf-club-1

It's also held at the most famed course in all of golf. She qualified locally at Venice, then did sub-regionals, and then regional finals at Ponte Vedra Beach at TPC Sawgrass. I'll go through that all in my PKG. Return to index of stories...
