LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS MADE A DEAL WITH MR AND MRS HANLON- THEY WOULDN'T CALL THE COPS IF THE COUPLE GIVES BACK THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THEY STOLE.

12:04 this only becomes a criminal case if somebody actually reports it 09

ATTORNEY LANCE DUNFORD SAYS WHILE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DOESNT HAVE TO REPORT THE THEFT-HES SHOCKED THAT THEY HAVENT.

09:34 I've had many teachers who come to us and have been of crimes that are for lack of a better word much more minor than this 42 and they lose their jobs 44

THE HANLONS USED A SQUARE DEVICE TO WIRE OVER TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS INTO A FAMILY BANK ACCOUNT DURING A SCHOOL FUNDRAISER.

04:09 I think because it's the fundraising money that makes it even worse 13

DUNFORD SAYS THEY MIGHT HAVE MADE EXCUSES FOR HOW THEY SPENT THAT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS-

06:20 if it's kind of a gray area about where these items were being purchased and what purpose they were actually being used for then maybe that's where they haven't met that threshold 28

BUT DOCUMENTS CLEARLY SHOW THAT THE HANLONS WENT ON A NAPLES SHOPPING SPREE JUST AFTER THE FUNDRAISER.

02:42 how are you gonna teach my kids oh yes just steal money just steal something it's okay come on 48

PARENTS SAY THE HANLONS SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD-BUT DUNFORD SAYS THE LAW ISNT CLEAR.

07:49 is there a legal duty for them to hold that money to a higher standard? I don't know that there's a written on the books legal standard that the school board has 58

GRAND THEFT CONVICTION-OC, SS

A SOUTHWEST FLORIDA MAN COULD SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PRISON -

FOR BREAKING INTO HOMES ACROSS LEE COUNTY.

THEODORE GRAUWICKEL WAS CAUGHT IN THE ACT BACK IN FEBRUARY.

INVESTIGATORS SAY GRAUWICKEL, AND TWO OTHERS

STOLE 20-THOUSAND-DOLLARS IN GOOD FROM A NORTH FORT MYERS HOME -

AND DAMAGED ABOUT 10-THOUSAND-DOLLARS MORE.

ALL THREE WILL BE SENTENCED IN THE COMING WEEKS.

Theodore Walker Grauwickel, 36, faces up to life in prison after being convicted of Grand Theft

and First Degree Burglary with $1000 Damage following a trial in Lee County. He also entered a

plea of no contest to a charge of Possession of Paraphernalia.

In February 2017 the Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Sheriff's Office conducted

a joint surveillance operation where they observed a suspected burglary crew who were believed

to have committed multiple burglaries throughout Lee County. This crew included Grauwickel

along with two co-defendants, Allison Beck and Timothy Grant.

During the surveillance the group broke into a home in North Fort Myers by prying open a

window in the back of the house. Once inside they stole multiple items including several

expensive watches and various pieces of Louis Vuitton luggage. They also ransacked the house

and broke an antique vase. They stole more than $20,000 worth of items and damage was

estimated at more than $10,000.

About 15 minutes after getting inside, Beck pulled up in a car in front of the home and

Grauwickel and Grant got in with the items. They were all quickly arrested.

Both Beck and Grant testified against Grauwickel at trial. They will be sentenced on January 16th

as part of their plea agreements for charges associated with the burglaries. Grauwickel is

scheduled to be sentenced on January 22nd

.

The city says southeast 47th will be open to the public during construction, but they'll be limited access on a block by block basis where they're working. They're telling people to take Cape Coral parkway and side streets to help expedite the process, but some fear what that could mean for traffic.

Karen Swalve/Cape Coral

"I hardly ever take Cape Coral parkway because it's always busy "

The city says downtown events like the farmers market will still go on when they're working on it. Karen swalve says she's not looking forward for when the crowds meet construction.

"I dont know where they're going to put people because parking without 47th ter is a mess and now theyre not going to have it so its going to be difficult for the farmers markte"

NOW, EVEN THOUGH DISTRICT SEEDING HAS ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR THE UPCOMING DISTRICT TOURNAMENT, IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MARINER TO EXACT REVENGE AGAINST THEIR BIGGEST RIVALS. MARINER SOCCER-PKG

"This is my favorite game. It's by far all of the students' favorite game to come watch. They are our rivals. But not only are they are rivals, but a lot of those kids on that team are really close friends of mine and it's always a battle out there. I love playing Cape."

TWO OF THE TOP DOGS IN CLASS 3-A-13 COLLIDE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THE REGULAR SEASON. THEIR FIRST MEETING, A 1-NIL SEAHAWKS WIN WAS MUCH CLOSER THAN THE FINAL SCORE WOULD SUGGEST, THANKS TO A WAVED OFF MARINER GOAL IN THE FINAL SECONDS.

"My brother actually crossed it, that would've been awesome if we would've been like the brothers that saved the game. But it was just disallowed. It was kind of the refs fault, he admitted it, and we can't do anything about it. That's why we're here tonight."

"It is disappointing, but it's also motivating because it was our first loss and it was to our rivals, so there's nothing more than we want to do than to come back out here and show them that we can beat them with no problem."

BRAGGING RIGHTS ARE CERTAINLY ON THE LINE, BUT SO IS A CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR EITHER SQUAD, LOOKING TO TAKE A PSYCHOLOGICAL ADVANTAGE INTO THE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT IN A FEW WEEKS.

"Anytime we beat Cape it's a big boost. You know, I tell the boys that we always have a target on our back, you know, from everyone, and we like to think that, you know, Cape has a target on their back as well and we're part of the group that's hunting them down."

"Even after this game, we still have the districts and there's no doubt in my mind we're going to catch them in districts again, but every game matters against Cape. Every game matters. And this game, we're going to get them." Return to index of stories...

LEE COUNTY TEACHERS ARE CAUGHT STEALING *THOUSANDS* OF DOLLARS FROM SCHOOL FUNDRAISERS-BUT STILL HAVE THEIR JOBS.

NBC 2 HAS BEEN WORKING TO FIND OUT WHY THE DISTRICT HAS AGREED TO KEEP THE PAIR EMPLOYED?

THE HANLONS WERE COACHES AT ESTERO HIGH SCHOOL. THEY HELPED RUN THE CONCESSION STAND, WORKED A GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER, AND ORDERED TEAM APPAREL-WITHOUT KEEPING ANY BOOKS OR TURNING IN ALL OF THE CHECKS.

THEY THEN WIRED OVER TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS STRAIGHT INTO THEIR DAUGHTERS BANK ACCOUNT DURING A GOLF TOURNAMENT USING A SQUARE DEVICE-AND THEN SPENT HUNDREDS OF IT THE VERY NEXT DAY AT PLACES LIKE SAMS CLUB, AMERICAN EAGLE, AND A PIZZA JOINT.

THE SCHOOL BOARD AGREED TO NOT INVOLVE LAW ENFORCEMENT IN EXCHANGE FOR A REIMBURSEMENT OF ALL FUNDS STOLEN-AND REASSIGNED THE COUPLE TO NEW JOBS IN THE DISTRICT.

ATTORNEY LANCE DUNFORD TELLS US WHY THE REASONS FOR THAT DEAL ARE WORTH QUESTIONING.
