TODAY'S WEATHER-WX CTR, WX WALL

We are starting off the weekend calm and pleasant in Southwest Florida. Temperatures are in the 60s and will stay there for most of the day. We'll only top out in the upper 60s around midday with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.

Temperatures this afternoon will actually fall as we get later in the day as arctic air spreads across Florida and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures will be in the 50s by late afternoon and dip into the 40s between 9 p.m. and midnight. Make sure to bring a jacket if you're out late on Saturday and you'll definitely need an extra layer Sunday morning.

Tonight winds will pick up as the arctic air rushes in, meaning not only will it be a colder night, wind chill will play a role in how it feels on Sunday. Wind chill will make it feel like the low to mid 30s across Southwest Florida tomorrow morning! Air temperatures will drop into the low 40s with a few inland areas like Arcadia reaching the upper 30s. Because of the windy weather, chances for frost are pretty low.

The cool and windy weather continues through Sunday with highs only in the mid 60s. For the new week a short-lived warming trend will get us to the 70s by Tuesday afternoon, but overall it will remain quite a bit cooler than normal. Another cold front is expected on Wednesday which will bring another shot of arctic air that will send temperatures falling again for late in the week. Return to index of stories...

MORTON FINDS OUT WHY ON TODAY'S HEALTH MATTERS. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS PKG-PKG

Prenatal care-- It's one of the most important things moms can do during pregnancy.

5:14 we do require a lot of visits during pregnancy, especially if you have high risk conditions.

One thing doctors test for in every prenatal visit is a urinary tract infection, or UTI.

3:40 we do have an increased rate of surveillance for these patients because we're worried about this

being an issue.

UTI's are a common condition for women that can cause pelvic pain and frequent urination.

8:25 in pregnancy it's a whole different ball game. You're now going from something that could be easily

treated to going to a raging kidney infection.

STANDUP: pregnancy compromises the immune system putting pregnant mothers at a much higher risk

of a UTI leading to a kidney infection. If that happens, both the mother and baby are put at risk for

things like preterm labor or preeclampsia.

7:29 if this gets worse you're either going to be admitted to the hospital, or you're going to need IV

antibiotics. We're worried that you're going into preterm labor. We're worried about consequences for

the pregnancy.

Women are at a higher risk of developing a UTI during pregnancy if they have diabetes, sickle cell

disease, prior kidney surgeries, or any problems with the kidney or urinary tract.

6:59 one in two people will progress to this being a kidney infection if not treated. By treating it we're

reducing that chance dramatically.

Doctors can prescribe an antibiotic to treat the UTI, lowering the risk for a kidney infection. Making it

important for women to have regular visits with their doctor during pregnancy. For Lee Health I'm

Lindsey Morton. Return to index of stories...

JUST WEEKS AFTER DEONTE REDDING WOULD HAVE CELEBRATED HIS 37TH BIRTHDAY

HIS FAMILY STILL STRUGGLES FOR CLOSURE AND JUSTICE ON WHY SOMEONE WOULD HAVE MURDERED THE FORT MYERS FATHER **AND HIS STEPBROTHER** IN COLD BLOOD.

TRISH ROUTTE WITH CRIME STOPPERS HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

CRIME STOPPERS-PKG

Loyalty, friendship and family were three core values for Deonte Redding, a Fort Myers native who

doted on his teenage daughter and would move mountains to help those around him.

Angela McClary – "He was always a leader. And always ready to do what needs to be done to help

people or just family. He was always telling people that you have but one life – enjoy it. And every time I

saw him, he had a smile on his face."

But all that changed on June 7, 2014, when someone lured Deonte and his stepbrother Zachary Blue into

a situation which ultimately took their lives in a spray of gunfire at a home on South Street.

Angela McClary – "He had enemies out there and he had people who he thought was his friends – and it

was really his enemies that was surrounding him."

Trish Routte: Deonte and Zachary had been at a home gambling earlier that night and ended up making

a considerable profit. After the game was over, the men left – only to receive a call a short time later

asking them to come return to the residence.

Angela McClary – "A couple of people in that home called him back that night. One of the cars blocked

him in."

Unable to escape, both Deonte and Zachary were killed as their so called friends stood by.

Angela McClary – "Even when it happened, there were six people there. I knew them. And for them not

to say what happened and they're supposed to be friends slash family, I say they all killed him."

Every day brings a new level of frustration for Deonte's family who feel they know exactly who pulled

the trigger that fatal night. And the fact that people aren't sharing that information with law

enforcement only deepens the pain they all feel.

Angela McClary – "The community knows things because they're talking about it immediately after it

happens. But yet, they're not going to anyone to talk to them about it."

As she awaits justice to be served, Angela McClary helps other families through the Parents of Murdered

Children to help move through the grieving process and stop the violence once and for all.

Angela McClary – "I don't want to see any other parent or family member have to grieve and mourn a

loved one who was slaughtered in the street like an animal and shot down."

Despite the hole that is left in Deonte's family's hearts, they have forgiven his killer. But they do want to

see the person or persons held responsible for this horrific crime.

Angela McClary – "I do forgive you. But I pray each and every day that your conscience bothers you.

And that you'll come forth and let the officers know what happened so we can have justice for Deonte."

LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS MADE A DEAL WITH MR AND MRS HANLON- THEY WOULDN'T CALL THE COPS IF THE COUPLE GIVES BACK THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THEY STOLE.

12:04 this only becomes a criminal case if somebody actually reports it 09

ATTORNEY LANCE DUNFORD SAYS WHILE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DOESNT HAVE TO REPORT THE THEFT-HES SHOCKED THAT THEY HAVENT.

09:34 I've had many teachers who come to us and have been of crimes that are for lack of a better word much more minor than this 42 and they lose their jobs 44

THE HANLONS USED A SQUARE DEVICE TO WIRE OVER TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS INTO A FAMILY BANK ACCOUNT DURING A SCHOOL FUNDRAISER.

04:09 I think because it's the fundraising money that makes it even worse 13

DUNFORD SAYS THEY MIGHT HAVE MADE EXCUSES FOR HOW THEY SPENT THAT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS-

06:20 if it's kind of a gray area about where these items were being purchased and what purpose they were actually being used for then maybe that's where they haven't met that threshold 28

BUT DOCUMENTS CLEARLY SHOW THAT THE HANLONS WENT ON A NAPLES SHOPPING SPREE JUST AFTER THE FUNDRAISER.

02:42 how are you gonna teach my kids oh yes just steal money just steal something it's okay come on 48

PARENTS SAY THE HANLONS SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD-BUT DUNFORD SAYS THE LAW ISNT CLEAR.

07:49 is there a legal duty for them to hold that money to a higher standard? I don't know that there's a written on the books legal standard that the school board has 58

-nats of clapping-

AN EMPASSIONED SPEECH FROM PUERTO RICO GOVERNOR RICARDO ROSSELLO.

JOINED BY FLORIDA GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT IN KISSIMEE, ROSSELLO MAKES ONE THING CLEAR.

THE CITIZENS OF PUERTO RICO DESERVE BETTER.

EMPTY PROMISES AND A LACK OF SUPPORT DURING HURRICANE MARIA, HELP TO FUEL ROSSELLO'S OUTRAGE.

"We need to be outraged by the inadequate response to US citizens that live in Puerto Rico."

MORE THAN 40 PERCENT OF THE ISLAND IS WITHOUT POWER.

200,000 PUERTO RICANS HAVE SINCE FLED FOR THE U-S.

NOW WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO HOLD POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABLE DURING THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS.

"US citizenship represents opportunity, it represents equal treatment, it represents hope."

IF THEY LIVE ON THE ISLAND, PUERTO RICANS CAN'T VOTE FOR CONGRESSIONAL SEATS.

BUT WITH THOUSANDS NOW LIVING IN THE U-S, ROSSELLO WANTS PUERTO RICANS TO REMEMBER WHICH POLITICIANS MADE THEM A PRIORITY.

IN HIS OPINION, IT'S THE DEFINTION OF DEMOCRACY.

"Right now we have no moral standing in doing so until we fix the inequities of being a second class citizen here in the United States." Return to index of stories...

A SOUTHWEST FLORIDA MAN COULD SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PRISON -

FOR BREAKING INTO HOMES ACROSS LEE COUNTY.

THEODORE GRAUWICKEL WAS CAUGHT IN THE ACT BACK IN FEBRUARY.

INVESTIGATORS SAY GRAUWICKEL, AND TWO OTHERS

STOLE 20-THOUSAND-DOLLARS IN GOOD FROM A NORTH FORT MYERS HOME -

AND DAMAGED ABOUT 10-THOUSAND-DOLLARS MORE.

ALL THREE WILL BE SENTENCED IN THE COMING WEEKS.

Theodore Walker Grauwickel, 36, faces up to life in prison after being convicted of Grand Theft

and First Degree Burglary with $1000 Damage following a trial in Lee County. He also entered a

plea of no contest to a charge of Possession of Paraphernalia.

In February 2017 the Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Sheriff's Office conducted

a joint surveillance operation where they observed a suspected burglary crew who were believed

to have committed multiple burglaries throughout Lee County. This crew included Grauwickel

along with two co-defendants, Allison Beck and Timothy Grant.

During the surveillance the group broke into a home in North Fort Myers by prying open a

window in the back of the house. Once inside they stole multiple items including several

expensive watches and various pieces of Louis Vuitton luggage. They also ransacked the house

and broke an antique vase. They stole more than $20,000 worth of items and damage was

estimated at more than $10,000.

About 15 minutes after getting inside, Beck pulled up in a car in front of the home and

Grauwickel and Grant got in with the items. They were all quickly arrested.

Both Beck and Grant testified against Grauwickel at trial. They will be sentenced on January 16th

as part of their plea agreements for charges associated with the burglaries. Grauwickel is

scheduled to be sentenced on January 22nd

KEVIN TOLIVER.SHAQUILLE BROWN AND BOARD OF EDUCATION OFFICER ARTHUR BRYANT RESPONDING TO A HOUSE FIRE ON "AUGUSTA AVENUE" EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

THAT'S WHERE THEY CAME ACROSS A MOTHER AND SON WHO MADE IT OUT.

BUT THE FATHER HAD NOT.

Nats: "They're advising there is a man stuck in the house that can't get out. Flames visible."

Officer Shaquille Brown / Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.:

"They said, 'Yeah, my dad is still in the house, he went back in,' so we tried to get him out of the house but we couldn't see him through the smoke,"

Officer Barrett Hood / Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.:

"We could barely see each other. We began coughing a lot because of the smoke,"

BUT THEN-- THE OFFICERS DECIDED TO BREAK THE WINDOWS.

THINKING THE MAN INSIDE WOULD TRY TO GET TO THE SOUND OF SHATTERING GLASS.

THAT'S WHEN SMOKE BARRELED OUT ONE SIDE OF THE HOUSE.

"When that happened, I looked inside I could see the silhouette of the gentleman standing inside the doorway. When he didn't respond to my commands, I took a few steps inside of the doorway, I helped him to the ground and began dragging him out."

THE MAN HAS BEEN FLOWN TO THE "JOSEPH M STILL CENTER" IN AUGUSTA FOR "SEVERE BURNS."

THE OFFICERS SAY THEY DID WHAT THEY HAD TO DO-- EVEN THOUGH THEY AREN'T "SPECIFICALLY TRAINED" TO RESCUE PEOPLE FROM HOUSE FIRES.

"As police officers, our training is to just assist and protect the city of savannah in any capacity. If that means that there's a fire and we have to go inside and get him out, then that's what we have to do. My training kicked in, my instincts kicked in." Return to index of stories...
