CHILLIEST NIGHT IN WEEKS COMING TONIGHT

A deep area of low pressure is spinning off the coast of North Carolina. The wind flow around the storm is influencing our weather with a steady northwest wind and much cooler temperatures. The cloud cover was thick at times this afternoon and that kept our high temperature from getting out of the 60's. Later tonight we will see the clouds break up and under just partly cloudy skies our low temperatures will drop into the 50's! This will be the coolest night we've seen in weeks.

As I look ahead to the weekend and even into next week, the weather is shaping up to be very nice. A large area of high pressure will build in once the storm off North Carolina moves away. This will give us mainly sunny skies, cool nights and warm afternoons with highs near 80 by Saturday and Sunday. Rain looks to be non-existent for several days. The next "cold" front should pass north of here late next week. Return to index of stories...

COMMUNICATIONS LIEUTENANT ROB SEWELL IS TESTING SOFTWARE CALLED MEDICAL PRIORITY DISPATCH.

IF YOU'RE IN A SITUATION OF LIVE OR DEATH.

HE SHOWED US JUST HOW FAST HE CAN GET AN AMBULANCE MOVING.

29:15 Is she breathing? No she's not and it's a cardiac arrest and it's being sent.

15:35 seconds count, they can mean the difference between life or death.

DIANE HOLM WITH PUBLIC SAFETY SAYS THE SOFTWARE CAN SAVE LIVES.

BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE CALLS.

THAT DON'T INVOLVE A LIFE THREATNING PATIENT.

HOLM SAYS AMBULANCE RESPONSE TIME MAY BE SLOWED DOWN.

THAT'S BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE WILL TELL OPERATORS TO KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS.

BEFORE DISPATCHING AN AMBULANCE.

13:47 it's a matter of finding exactly what you need in order to determine how fast they need to get there

LEE COUNTY IS ALSO TRYING A different WAY OF HAVING PARAMEDICS RESPOND TO CALLS. SAY FOR EXAMPLE PARAMEDICS HAVE TO HEAD TO A SHOOTING THEN LIGHTS AND SIRENS WILL BE USED, BUT IF PARAMEDICS ARE HEADING TO SOMEONE WITH A SOAR ELBOW, THE LIGHTS AND SIRENS LIKELY WON'T BE TURNED ON.

OPERATORS AND PARAMEDICS SAY THEY LIKE THE CHANGES.

BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR SAFETY, THEY'RE STILL IN CONTROL

.NOT THE COMPUTER.

YOU CAN *HEAR ALL KINDS OF WILDLIFE IN THE WOODS SURROUNDING FORT MYERS SHORES.

AND WHILE HE WAS ELUSIVE TODAY, THERE'S ONE ANIMAL WHO'S BEEN MAKING A LOT MORE APPEARANCES THESE DAYS.

He's not aggressive, he's just not afraid.

JUDY MEYERS IS ONE OF MANY WHO'VE GOTTEN AN UNEXPECTED VISIT.

The dogs were asleep in the bed, which was kind of a clue something was wrong, cause we heard the doggy door.

There's this bear head, sticking through, just sticking through the dog door!

JUDY THINKS THE 250 POUND BLACK BEAR MAY HAVE TAKEN AN INTEREST IN THE GRILL-- AND THE LINGERING SMELL OF STEAKS FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE.

AFTER SNIFFING AROUND THE PATIO FOR A FEW, JUDY AND HER BOYFRIEND WATCHED HIM HOP BACK OVER THEIR FENCE--

You can see these scratch marks.

USING THIS TREE FOR A GRIP.

You could hear him for 5 minutes, going through the woods.he was like a mack truck

Just like chhrrrr, chhrrr, chrrr.

And this bear's really making the rounds. It hasn't just been seen here at Judy's house, but all over the neighborhood-- including here at the Verandah, and at LJ's, off State Rd. 31.

THE SIGHTINGS HAVE ALL THE REGULARS TALKING.

He said, 'are you open yet?' I said, 'not yet.' He said 'well can I get a drink, because a bear just crossed the road in front of me, and I'm not sure I really saw that!'

Several, several complaints in Fort Myers Shores, it's been going on over a month now I would say.

FWC HAS 5 OR 6 TRAPS IN THE AREA.BUT SO FAR NO LUCK CATCHING IT.

JUDY'S MAKING SURE NOT TO LEAVE FOOD OUTSIDE, SINCE THAT'S WHAT KEEPS BEARS COMING BACK.
