PKG BURGLARY BY BOAT-PKG

IT'S 11-30 AT NIGHT WHEN THIS NAPLES WOMAN HEARS A DOOR SLAM AND SEES A MAN SPRINTING ACROSS HER LANAI.

i was scared. I was a little scared. I've never had anything happen like that before.

BUT THIS WOULD-BE BURGLAR DIDN'T TAKE OFF ON FOOT OR HOP IN A GETAWAY CAR.

INSTEAD, SHE SAYS SHE HEARD A BOAT ENGINE FIRE UP!

i knew it was a boat. I know it wasn't a big boat, it was just a small boat.

when officers came out to this house, they spotted heavy waves in the water, consistent with a boat leaving the area.

if they came in a boat, they can leave easily.

A SHERIFF'S OFFICE HELICOPTER DIDN'T SPOT ANYTHING IN THE WATER.

BUT POLICE SAY A BURGLAR BOLTING BY BOAT IS EXTREMELY RARE.

how unusual would that be? It's not a frequent occurrence at all. I can't remember the last time that's actually occurred.

BUT NEIGHBOR DOROTHY GREEN ISN'T SURPRISED.

i guess this is their next step.

SHE SAYS SHE RECENTLY CONFRONTED A PAIR OF SUSPICIOUS BOATERS LATE AT NIGHT BEHIND HER HOME.

i said, what are you doing out there? And they kind of hesitated and then said, uh, we're fishing, but they immediately took off down the canal.

POLICE SAY MAKE SURE TO LOCK YOUR BACK DOORS AND LANAI.

THIS NEAR VICTIM PLANS TO ADD MOTION SENSOR LIGHTS BEHIND HER HOUSE.

it makes you uneasy to think it's happening in your neighborhood that's always so safe.

NOT KNOWING WHERE THE NEXT BURGLAR MAY COME FROM.OR HOW THEY'LL TRY TO GET AWAY.

IN NAPLES, ADAM FREEMAN, NBC2. Return to index of stories...

flames pop and smoke soars high as fire tears through this Cape Coral custom cabinet shop.

Sot Lt. Jerry Craig, Cape Coral Fire Dept Fire was already through the roof when we got here Sot Don Salvesen Totally engulfed in flames.we knew everything would be gone.

The contents of Viking Millworks are unrecognizable.weeks of hard work reduced to melted metal and piles of charred wood.

Sot Don

What can you do? Its burned down, you know at first you ask what could it have been? And.we don't know.

And the owners may not ever find out. The fire has left the walls weak, threatening to cave in.making it too dangerous for the fire marshal to continue his investigation.

Sot Adam Rivero, State Fire Marshal

You have to get in, you have to see exactly what the fire does. Unfortunately that's not always possible.

The brothers-in-law have had their carpentry business together for 30 years. This building is just a part of it. And this fire, they say, is just a setback.

Sot Don

You try to figure out what was being built.for who.what the deadlines are. We're already thinking about what we're going to do, getting stuff done on time.

WEATHER-WX WALL

NICE WEATHER CONTINUES

The weather is looking great again for Tuesday. You can expect just a few clouds during the day and a light northerly breeze keeping our temperatures in the upper 50's again tonight and around 80 tomorrow.

Rain chances remain very low for Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the weather map, there is a cold front over the Mississippi River producing rain and snow in the midwest. This front is not forecast to make it to southwest Florida and therefore, we are not expecting any rain or significant temperature changes as the front passes through the northern part of Florida.

In the long-range picture, another front is forecast to come through on Saturday but the computer models are not very confident that the front will bring us rain. I'll introduce a low chance on Friday/Saturday just in case - but I wouldn't plan on it. The week ahead looks nice and quiet. Return to index of stories...
