After seeing lots of rain over Southwest Florida yesterday, it looks like today is going to be yet another wetter than normal day for us with rain chances around 60%.
Showers will get going as soon as this morning for some of our coastal communities but will stay fairly isolated. As the morning evolves, however, plentiful moisture and a little daytime heating will lead to the development of additional showers along with a few storms, most of which will affect areas close to the coast and Highway 41.
Showers will continue to develop and expand in coverage through the midday and early afternoon hours, mostly targeting the urban corridor of Charlotte, Lee, and Collier County.
By the mid afternoon, the rain will begin to favor inland areas as the sea breeze advances farther east. While the door will still be wide open for isolated downpours later in the afternoon for urban Southwest Florida, the shower activity will be more widespread over the interior.
Like yesterday, the rain could be very heavy at times, and we'll also see the potential for lots of lightning and gusty winds in some of the stronger cells.
Outside of the rain, most of us will notice more clouds than sun, but some sunnier spells will be possible through the day as well.
Our temperatures will stay in the 70s and 80s through the morning, and most of us won't get beyond 90 degrees.
While much of the rain will diminish by sunset, a few stragglers will linger through the first part of the night. Otherwise, our sky will stay mostly to partly cloudy with temperatures cooling into the mid 70s.
Rain chances will start to take a dip Wednesday as the rain becomes more isolated and focused deeper inland.
By Thursday, our rain chances will fall even more as a much drier air mass settles over Southwest Florida. The result will be more sun along with some very toasty temperatures. Afternoon high temperatures will likely peak in the mid to upper 90s, and our "feels like" temperature will be over 100 degrees.
It still look like the heat will back off a little by the upcoming weekend as we get into a more typical weather pattern for July; afternoon temperatures will range from the low to mid 90s, and rain chances will bump up to near 40%.

PEOPLE JOKE ABOUT AIRLINE FOOD.
BUT THIS STORY IS FRIGHTENING.
THE F-B-I HAS LAUNCHED A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION,
AFTER *NEEDLES WERE DISCOVERED *INSIDE SANDWICHES.
SERVED ON FOUR DIFFERENT DELTA FLIGHTS.
AS ABC'S TAHMAN BRADLEY REPORTS --
ONE PASSENGER WAS INJURED.
Return to index of stories...
It's not what you'd expect served in flight - a half dozen sewing needles
found in sandwiches on four separate Delta flights this past Sunday.
A stunning discovery, raising serious questions about the security of food
aboard commercial planes.
Among the people reporting injures -- a doctor and his son traveling on
separate flights.
SOT Dr. Jack Drogt, Found Needle in Food
"HAD I TAKEN A BIG SWALLOW AND SWALLOWED THAT DOWN AND HAD A BIG NEEDLE
INSIDE, THAT WOULD BE VERY CONCERNING TO ME."
James Tonges also says he ate one of the sandwiches.
SOT James Tonges, Found Needle in Food
"I FELT THE POKE IN THE TOP OF MY MOUTH. WHEN I PULLED IT OUT OF MY MOUTH IT
WAS VERY CLEAR. I CLEANED THE FOOD OFF AND IT WAS ABOUT A ONE INCH LONG
STRAIGHT NEEDLE."
The US-bound flights originated in Amsterdam.
Federal authorities, including the FBI, are investigating -- trying to learn
who had access to the food aboard the planes.
The sandwiches, prepared in the kitchen of the Gate Gourmet catering company
at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, have been removed from flights.
In a statement, Gate Gourmet said: " We take this matter very
seriously. Gate Gourmet immediately launched a full investigation to
determine the root cause of this disturbing incident, and we are treating
this as a criminal act."
Delta Airlines says it has taken immediate action to ensure the safety
and quality of its food.
But the scare exposes a vulnerable area of airline security.
SOT Brad Garrett, Former FBI Agent
"YOU CAN'T CHECK EVERY SANDWICH THAT GOES ABOARD A PLANE. UNFORTUNATELY,
THIS DEMONSTRATES TO PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DO BAD THINGS THAT THIS IS A GAPING
HOLE."
The airline industry is already on high alert coinciding with the start of
the Olympic games. And now authorities and security weary passengers must
worry about terror threats: bombs and now their food.
