Over the last few days, showers and storms have been concentrated across our inland communities and today is no exception.
Mostly sunny skies will dominate in the early morning hours with a few showers developing over the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The vast majority of Southwest Florida will stay dry, but a shower or two could wash ashore through the mid day hours.
As the sea breeze begins to work its way inland, isolated showers and storms will get pushed deeper inland by the afternoon.
Temperatures will quickly warm under partly sunny skies into the lower to middle 90s through the day and with plenty of humidity, heat index values will range from 100°-108°.
A weak tropical wave over the Dominican Republic will bring an increase in tropical moisture by the weekend, which means more cloud cover and a better coverage of showers and storms to the area.
In the Atlantic, Tropical Depression #5 has formed about 640 miles east of the windward islands. Sustained winds are at 35 mph and it continues to move on a westerly track at 18mph. As this system moves into a more favorable environment for strengthening, we could see the evolution of Tropical Storm Ernesto over the next day or two. As of right now, this is not a threat to Southwest Florida and we will continue to track it over the next several days.

ABC OBTAINED AN EXCLUSIVE NEW REPORT --
ABOUT THE SUSPECTED SHOOTER IN THAT COLORADO MOVIE THEATER MASSACRE.
THE INVESTIGATION RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT WARNING SIGNS.
AND WHETHER THE SUSPECT'S UNIVERSITY COULD HAVE OR SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ACTION.
ABC'S TAHMAN BRADLEY REPORTS ON THE NEW FINDINGS.
Return to index of stories...
This morning, questions about whether there were warning signs before James
Holmes allegedly carried out the Colorado movie theater massacre.
ABC News has learned the psychiatrist, Dr. Lynne Fenton, who was treating
Holmes at the University of Colorado, was also a key member of the school's
threat assessment team.
These documents uncovered by ABC show Fenton actually wrote the university's
policy on threat assessment.
ABC's Denver affiliate, KMGH, is reporting exclusively that by early June,
Dr. Fenton actually notified other members of the team about her concerns
about Holmes' behavior.
But on June 10, three days after Holmes bought an assault weapon, the PhD
student suddenly told the university he was quitting.
So, according to what sources tell KMGH, the larger threat assessment team
never had a formal meeting and never intervened -- thinking they had no
control over Holmes once he left.
Experts say Holmes' exit should have been a red alert.
SOT BARRY SPODAK, Threat Assessment Expert
"I THINK THAT'S THE SIGNAL THAT YOU SHOULD INTENSIFY YOUR EFFORTS NOT WALK
AWAY. /UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES, MOST WELL-TRAINED THREAT ASSESSEMENT
TEAMS WOULD HAVE GONE INTO ACTION."
Listen to what the University of Colorado chancellor claimed earlier this
week:
SOT Don Elliman, Univ. of Colorado Chancellor
"TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE AT THIS POINT, WE DID EVERYTHING WE THINK WE
SHOULD HAVE DONE."
But those words are being challenged as those close to the victims wonder
could this tragedy have been prevented.
