GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
TODAY IS SUNDAY AUGUST 5TH.
I'M KELLY CRESWELL.
AND I'M JOE ROETZ.
BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY -
LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST KIRA MINER WITH OUR STORMWARN 7 FORECAST.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
A trough of low pressure continues to make it's way across the Florida peninsula today and will keep our weather pattern a bit unsettled over the next couple of days.
Our Sunday morning will start off mostly to partly sunny with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Most of Southwest Florida will be fairly dry to start, with the possibility of a couple of showers near the coast during the morning hours.
As this system pulls off to our north and west, tropical moisture will continue to surge into the area, and as a result, we'll see an increase in the cloud cover throughout the day with scattered showers and storms firing up along the sea breeze, especially during the peak heating hours of the afternoon.
Highs today will climb into the lower to middle 90s with plenty of humidity.
Showers and storms will be a good bet as we head into early next week, with a drying and warming trend by mid week.
In the tropics, we're tracking Tropical Storm Ernesto in the Caribbean and Florence in the eastern Atlantic. Right now, neither of these pose a threat to Southwest Florida

SCRIPT:
It was an extraordinary mission about to unfold over Illinois farm country.
Sky divers from all over the world - 11 countries in all.
Gathering for a daring mission
To break the world record for vertical skydiving ,or free flying, as it's
sometimes called:
SOT: Dave Schwartz, Skydive Chicago
"Free flyers, that is a skydiving discipline where they're flying head first
. And we're trying to build the largest linked formation."
Following months of planning and tryouts, 138 skydivers squeezed into six
planes and watch right here as they jump out at 18,500 feet above. some of
them with cameras mounted right to their helmets.
SOT: Rook Nelson, Skydive Chicago
"And we're linking up basically all balancing on our heads. So with the
higher air speeds it's a little bit more tricky, maneuverability wise to
link up."
While already free-falling, they reach out to grab each other hands.
Each skydiver knowing exactly when to exit the aircraft, whom to follow, and
where in the formation they should be.
They fell at speeds of up to 220 miles per hour. Their heads - down. When
they join hands, they create an enormous snowflake formation spanning 150
feet
With their display complete , it 's time for the record-breaking skydivers
to break away from each other and deploy their parachutes.
Landing one by one - their skidding, their shoes - after that spectacular
image in the sky.
