We'll notice some changes in the rain department today as our rain chances take a little bit of a dip, but we'll still be in line for some hit or miss afternoon storms during the peak heating of the day.
The difference between today and yesterday, though, is today's rain will likely cover much less ground; rain coverage will be considerably lower at 30% instead of Monday's 70%.
It also appears the best chance of getting wet will be over northern portions of the viewing area, so if you live in Collier County, your chances of seeing a storm will be lower than in Charlotte County.
Aside from the isolated afternoon storms, today will be mainly sunny and hot. Temperatures will have the potential to warm into the mid 90s, and the heat index will be near 100 degrees.
Rain chances will dwindle even more Wednesday as some drier air briefly takes hold of Southwest Florida, so the main focus will be on the heat as temperatures soar into the mid 90s.
By Thursday and Friday, afternoon showers and storms will make a comeback, and it looks like the afternoon thunderstorm pattern will be in place through the upcoming weekend as well.
In the tropics, Ernesto is struggling with some dry air at the moment, which has prevented the storm from strengthening into a hurricane overnight. Ernesto still has very warm water to work with as well as an overall favorable environment for future strengthening before landfall tonight near Belize and the Yucatan peninsula. Once Ernesto crosses the Yucatan, the system is expected to briefly move into the southern Gulf, and its final destination will likely be the coast of Mexico Friday morning.
Elsewhere, the former Tropical Storm Florence is no longer a tropical threat as what was left of the system eroded due to dry air and wind shear.

INITIALLY HIS COURT APPEARANCE LATER TODAY, WAS TO CONSIDER IF TREATMENT FROM DOCTORS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS. AND THE USE OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS HAVE MADE LOUGHNER STABLE ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES AGAINST HIM.
BUT NOW THERE ARE INDICATIONS LOUGHNER COULD PLEAD GUILTY TO THOSE CHARGES.

AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR IS SCHEDULED TO TESTIFY. AND NEWLY RELEASED COURT DOCUMENTS SHOW THE JUDGE IN THE HIGH-PROFILE CASE WILL RULE ON LOUGHNER'S COMPETENCY DURING THE HEARING. E FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.We'll notice some changes in the rain department today as our rain chances take a little bit of a dip, but we'll still be in line for some hit or miss afternoon storms during the peak heating of the day.
The difference between today and yesterday, though, is today's rain will likely cover much less ground; rain coverage will be considerably lower at 30% instead of Monday's 70%.
It also appears the best chance of getting wet will be over northern portions of the viewing area, so if you live in Collier County, your chances of seeing a storm will be lower than in Charlotte County.
Aside from the isolated afternoon storms, today will be mainly sunny and hot. Temperatures will have the potential to warm into the mid 90s, and the heat index will be near 100 degrees.
Rain chances will dwindle even more Wednesday as some drier air briefly takes hold of Southwest Florida, so the main focus will be on the heat as temperatures soar into the mid 90s.
By Thursday and Friday, afternoon showers and storms will make a comeback, and it looks like the afternoon thunderstorm pattern will be in place through the upcoming weekend as well.
In the tropics, Ernesto is struggling with some dry air at the moment, which has prevented the storm from strengthening into a hurricane overnight. Ernesto still has very warm water to work with as well as an overall favorable environment for future strengthening before landfall tonight near Belize and the Yucatan peninsula. Once Ernesto crosses the Yucatan, the system is expected to briefly move into the southern Gulf, and its final destination will likely be the coast of Mexico Friday morning.
Elsewhere, the former Tropical Storm Florence is no longer a tropical threat as what was left of the system eroded due to dry air and wind shear.
