FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

GLOOMY WEEKEND AHEAD

First Alert Live Doppler Radar will get a good work out this weekend.

Moisture is increasing as our winds shift from the south, and that is going to spike our rain chances.

Saturday and Sunday will be gloomy at times. There will be a lot of cloud cover, but there will the occasional peak of sunshine. Numerous thunderstorms can be expected across all of southwest Florida… So plan accordingly!

Rain chances take a precipitous drop Monday through mid week. What storm cells pop up will be very isolated in nature.

Highs will cool off slightly, too. Lower 90s will be the rule, however, when one adds the humidity… It'll still feel muggy and uncomfortable.

For you beach and boat goers expect winds from the south at 5-10 knots, seas 1-2 feet, and a light chop for the inland waterways.

As for the tropics we are watching Tropical Depression Seven. It can be found right in between the Lesser Antilles and the Cape Verde Islands. Forecast models project it to take a westward track. In fact, it'll nearly follow Ernesto's same track. As it Seven pushes west, we do expect it to develop into a Tropical Storm.

The next area of interest is a low pressure system off the coast of Africa.

As of now neither will have an effect on southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...

HIT & RUN FOLO-CLIP VOTOPS 2 CG ON CAM TAG

THANKS JP.

TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR SCREEN.

THAT'S THE RED TRUCK AT THE CENTER OF A HIT AND RUN INVESTIGATION.

IT WAS REMOVED FROM A HOME IN SAN CARLOS PARK THIS MORNING.

HERE'S THE WOMAN TROOPERS QUESTIONED TODAY--

21 YEAR OLD COLLEGE STUDENT, CHELSIE DAHLBECK.

16-YEAR OLD KEISHA BEIN-AMIE WAS WALKING TO A BUS STOP YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN SHE WAS HIT.

TONIGHT, HER FAMILY FEARS SHE MAY NEVER WALK AGAIN.

ABC7'S STEVE CAMPION WITH MORE. Return to index of stories...

HIT & RUN FOLO-PKG

Take nats of truck passing by

Only our cameras catch troopers seizing this red Toyota Tacoma this morning -- as they search for who hit 11th grader Keisha Bien-Aime.

Jacquelyn Hippler, neighbor

4722 "it was just the damage on the truck that was it. We didn't know what she hit or if she hit anything."

Blocks away from the stop where Bien-Aime laid lifeless -- neighbors wondered about the damage on a red pickup truck next door.

Hippler 4855 " it looks like she hit something. We figured she hit a stop sign."

Tonight, troopers tell us the truck -- 21 year old college student chelsie Dahlbeck's ride -- more than likely hit Keisha.

Troopers claim the damage on the truck's front end matches the debris found on Sanibel blvd.

12 hours after the impact, fhp tells us dahlbeck Called and fessed up.

Sgt. Dwayne Cooper, FHP

5141 "she said she was unaware of what she hit, she did hit something and was not sure what it was and left the scene to speak with her parents."

Troopers tell us their initial investigation reveals speeding, alcohol, and texting DID NOT factor into the crash.

As to why dahlbeck didn't get out and help bien-aime who was walking to her bus stop -- troopers explain dahlbeck seems sorry.

Cooper, FHP

5346 "Steve: did she seem remorseful? Absolutely remorseful, she wasn't sure what happened."

Investigators still need to piece together all the details.

If dahlbeck did slam into bien-Aime causing this damage, she faces at least two felony charges -- leaving two lives forever altered by one early morning collision.

Hippler 4911 "never would have thought it was a person and I still hope it's not her." Return to index of stories...

BUS STOP REAX-OC SOT OC

ABC7 ALSO TALKED WITH PARENTS AND STUDENTS NEAR THE SAN CARLOS BUS STOP TODAY.

THEY TELL US THEY'RE RELIEVED SOMEONE'S COME FORWARD IN THE ACCIDENT.

Sot Joseph boro senior

" it sounds like it was bad enough where she knew she hit something and to not even pull over up the side of the road there to see what she might have run over, that just says she was doing something, she wasn't laying attention."

Sot Michael

" if you hit something, you've got to check what's out there."

THE DISTRICT DID TAKE A LOOK AT THE BUS STOP -

SAYING IT IS SAFE AND HAS BEEN USED FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS. Return to index of stories...

practically my entire life I've been running

IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN HITTING THE BEACH FOR A NICE LONG RUN FOR MITCH NORGART.

I don't know what I'd do without it. It helps clear my mind in the morning

BUT AS HIS FEET HIT THE SAND -- YOU MAY NOTICE HE'S MISSING A CERTAIN SOMETHING.LIKE A PAIR OF SHOES!

it's a great workout one time, two times a week, it really is

NO SHOES, NO PROBLEM FOR MITCH.

great way to strengthen your foot muscles, your calves, achiles tendons and it's a natural way of running. You run more on the balls of your feet than the heels of your feet

sure, barefoot running may work out different parts of your body, but that doesn't mean the practice is for everyone

your casual runner, weekend warrior, somebody who likes to do 5ks twice a year might not be the best person to jump right into barefoot running because this type of running is very technique dependent.

A TECHNIQUE DR. JASON NEMITZ SAYS CAN BE HARD TO MASTER.

HE SAYS YOU RISK A VARIETY OF INJURIES.INCLUDING STRESS FRACTURES.IF YOU DON'T RUN THE RIGHT WAY.

BUT HE'S NOT COMPLETELY AGAINST THE IDEA OF BAREFOOT RUNNING

in the right group of people, people who have good running technique or who are already higher-level runners, I think it's ok to switch over.

MITCH COACHES RUNNERS TO EASE INTO IT AND NOT GO "FULL THROTTLE" RIGHT OFF THE BAT.

people get into barefoot running too quickly and too aggressively. You should build your way into it for sure

SO FAR -- MITCH SAYS HE HASN'T "RUN" INTO ANY PROBLEMS.

BUT OF COURSE, HE ALWAYS WATCHES WHERE HE STEPS!

at 200 plus pounds, when I hit a shell, it usually just sinks into the sand::laughs: Return to index of stories...
