530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WXWALL

"More sun, fewer showers Monday"

The cloudiness we've had around for the last couple days will start to fade today as more sunshine starts to break through.

We'll still notice more cloud cover than normal for this time of year, but we'll at least be treated to more sun compared to what we had over the weekend.

While rain chances will be dropping a little today, there's still enough moisture in place to produce some widely scattered showers. We'll notice a few isolated coastal showers this morning, and some of those downpours could build toward Highway 41 by the mid to late morning.

By the mid afternoon, the sea breeze should be able to push most of the showers and thunderstorms deeper inland, but a few storms may still impact the urban corridor through this evening.

With more sunshine in play today across Southwest Florida, temperatures will be a bit warmer with most locations warming to the low 90s during the heat of the day; locations close to the coast will likely only warm to the upper 80s.

Overall moisture will be decreasing a bit as we progress through the week, putting our rain chances close to or just below "normal" for this time of year. We'll also see a change in the timing of the rain, so instead of seeing showers develop earlier in the day, most of the rain and storms will fire up during the mid to late afternoon.

The tropics continue to be rather quiet. We're watching two tropical waves, one in the Caribbean and another in the open Atlantic. Both disturbances are battling strong wind shear and dry air, which will make it difficult for either of these systems to organize. We don't expect either of these tropical wave to be a threat to Southwest Florida or the U.S. mainland. Return to index of stories...

PKG SCRIPT:

SOT Ryan

"YOU KNOW WHAT NORTH CAROLINA, WE CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS."

Mitt Romney's V-P selection of Paul Ryan is energizing conservatives.

The GOP ticket attracted huge crowds over the weekend and hopes that

continues today as Romney travels through Florida and Ryan heads to Iowa.

But the pick it also putting Ryan's controversial budget proposal front and

center in the race.

SOT Ryan

"WE KNOW THE PRINCIPLES THAT BUILT THIS COUNTRY AND WE ARE GOING TO REAPPLY

THOSE PRINCIPLES AND GET THIS COUNTRY BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK AND LEAD OUT

KIDS TO A BETTER FUTURE."

Democrats pounced.

They moved aggressively to tie Romney to Ryan's budget plan that includes

tax cuts for the rich and changes to Medicare.

SOT Obama

"THEY HAVE TRIED THIS BEFORE. THEY HAVE TRIED TO SELL US THIS TRICKLE DOWN

FAIRY DUST BEFORE AND GUESS WHAT. IT DID NOT WORK."

SOT Axelrod - source: This Week

"MEDICARE ITSELF WILL BE IN A DEATH SPIRAL BECAUSE IT WILL - IT WILL BE

DISSIPATED BY SENIORS WHO - HEALTHY SENIORS GOING INTO THE PRIVATE SYSTEM,

LEAVING SICK SENIORS IN THE EXISTING MEDICARE PROGRAM. THEY DO NOT BELIEVE

IN MEDICARE."

Romney says he picked Ryan so he'd have a partner to solve tough problems

such as Medicare.

But last night on "60 Minutes", Romney seemed to distance himself from Ryan'

s budget plan.

SOT Romney

"WELL I HAVE MY BUDGET PLAN AS YOU THAT I'VE PUT OUT, AND THAT'S THE BUDGET

PLAN THAT WE'RE GOING TO RUN ON."

Democrats say the Ryan pick makes it harder for Republicans because the

proposed changes to medicare could anger and motivate seniors in swing

states like Florida and Ohio.

STORMWARN FORECAST-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS TH

E FORECAST FOR OUR AREA."More sun, fewer showers Monday"
