Joanne Camarro, neighbor
5030 "I can't remember the sound because I was in a deep sleep but then I heard the fire trucks."
Firefighters raced to this Naples Park house before dawn broke.
They battled flames as high as 30 feet for almost an hour -- at the foreclosed property.
Camarro, neighbor
5300 "it's sad sight. They took the bricks off!"
Neighbor Joanne Camarro recalls -- the family who once lived here -- was forced out because a job loss left them unable to pay the mortgage.
Camarro, neighbor
5217 "when I came back they had trucks here and some in my driveway. With the furniture loaded, they were going. They said goodbye to me and we're going to a motel."
It's an increasingly sad situation -- playing out across southwest Florida.
Since April, we've reported at least 5 fires destroyed vacant or foreclosed properties -- like this charlotte county house.
Deputy Chief Sal D'Angelo, North Naples Fire and Rescue
0220 "from the fire prevention standpoint, it's hard because we don't have any jurisdiction."
Sal D'Angelo with north Naples explains they don't have any way of policing how people or banks -- care for forgotten properties.
He tells us -- neighbors of vacant homes can never be too cautious.
D'Angelo 0325 "keep your property well maintained. Your grass mowed, any combustibles put away, tree limbs, clean your gutters."
As for this fire which the fire Marshall believes sparked in the attic, it remains under investigation.
The massive hole in the roof and damage here doesn't just show the fire's rage -- it points to yet another broken American dream.
Camarro, neighbor
5159 "they were having a hard time but nobody ever called them back and then they were gone."

RIGHT NOW, IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, THE AVERAGE FOR A GALLON OF GAS IS THREE DOLLARS AND 63 CENTS.
THAT'S EIGHT CENTS *MORE THAN DRIVERS WERE PAYING AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR.

00:36 fuel prices have been rising since july 1 and it looks like they're going to continue to increase throughout the month 41
SO WHAT'S BEHIND THE INCREASE??
JESSICA BRADY AAA
:55 the question is what reason is *not behind this. everything from increased tensions in the middle east to peak hurricane season, domestic supply disruptions and various economic news both domestic and abroad have all contributed to the rise in pump prices 10
IT SEEMS REASONABLE TO THINK ISSUES AT HOME ARE HURTING PRICES.
DRIVER JUNE VENGHAUS 7:18:38 right now i think about the drought in the midwest and the loss of all the corn products that we need in our country 43
LESS CORN MEANS LESS ETHANOL --
BUT JESSICA BRADY WITH TRIPLE "A" SAYS THAT'S NOT CAUSING THE CURRENT INCREASE.
DON'T WRITE OFF THE DROUGHT YET -- IF IT CONTINUES, THAT COULD MEAN HIGHER PRICES DOWN THE ROAD.
NAT AT THE PUMP
MERVIN VAUMGARDNER DECIDED TO FLY TO FORT MYERS TO MEET HIS NEW GRANDSON.
BUT WHEN HE COMES BACK IN NOVEMBER -- HE'LL BE DRIVING.
7:24:15 at that time ill be taking the jeep and trailer with me. little bit weary of what gas prices will be coming down 22
USUALLY WHEN OIL REFINERIES MAKE THE SWITCH TO "WINTER" FUEL IN SEPTEMBER --
IT'S CHEAPER TO PRODUCE AND USUALLY CHEAPER FOR YOU TO BUY.
JESSICA BRADY AAA
2:36 but with the tensions escalating in iran and the middle east.i don't know if we're going to see prices drop after labor day like we have in the past 47

Its a way to bring people together.
-brett hayes/FMB Volleyball Club-"you meet so many different people."
Brett hayes and her husband OWN the Fort myers beach volleyball club.
-hayes-"everybody and anybody who wants to play and wants to be a part of this comes out."
Their volleyball club is 300 members strong. Many of those players live in cape coral, which is why the duo was hoping to bring volleyball to the city.

And they thought they had found the perfect location.
-hayes-she had the empty lot available it was great space."
That "great space" was on this empty lot Leapin' Lizards WAS LEASING.
-mary ann evans/owner, leapin' lizards-"we had a plan to bring 2-3 courts here."
So the fort myers beach volleyball club paid for 400 tons of sand. It was "game on" until the city's building official HEARD ABOUT THE project.
-hayes-"it was built, it was done. We just had to put up a net. We built one court and the city kind of shut us down."
In a letter PAUL DICKSON WROTE, the building official determined an outdoor recreational facility such as volleyball courts WAS not permitted within the downtown gateway zoning district."
But that doesn't mean the club can't move the volleyball court to another spot in the city.
-john jacobsen/CRA-"parks and recs has already said that they would be happy to work with them to find a place to play volleyball in one of the city parks."
That - hayes says - would be a big score.
-hayes-"there's nothing in cape coral and we wanted to bring our league and volleyball into cape coral."
