GOOD MORNING.
THIS BIG STORY TODAY --
TROPICAL STORM ISAAC.
IT'S EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN TODAY. AND POSSIBLY BECOME A HURRICANE.
STORMWARN 7 METEOROLIGIST ALLYSON RAE -- STARTS US OFF THIS MORNING TRACKING THE TROPICS.

After a few showers overnight, things have begun to dry out just a bit across Southwest Florida.
A few patchy clouds will start our Thursday morning with mainly dry weather on tap, although it will be on the warm side with temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. Through the afternoon, we're in store for a nice mix of sun and clouds as daytime highs climb into the lower to middle 90s with heat index values near 100°.
After being in a moist southwest flow over the last several days, steering winds will begin to shift more to the east and southeast. This will keep about a 30% chance for showers and storms a bit closer to home during the peak heating of the day as the sea breeze begins to make it's way inland.
In the tropics, Tropical Depression #10 formed yesterday morning, but looks to stay well out in the Atlantic waters. Our main concern right now is Tropical Storm Isaac, as all of Southwest Florida remains in the forecast cone. As conditions become a bit more favorable in the Caribbean, gradual strengthening is imminent with a category one hurricane as it nears the island of Hispaniola. The current track has Isaac working it's way over the mountainous regions of Haiti and Eastern Cuba, which will more than likely disrupt the center of circulation and therefore weaken it possibly intro a tropical storm. Once it moves across the warm waters of the Florida Straits, intensification is possible with a category one hurricane nearing the Florida coast by late Sunday and early Monday.

BOB HANSEN EXPLAINS

ANNELISE SHAFER MAKES UP HER BED AT THE HOUSE SHE RENTS.
THIS COLLEGE STUDENT HAS BEEN A RENTER FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. BUT ONE THING SHE HAS NEVER PAID FOR. RENTERS INSURANCE.
"It's not like the first think on our list, like be sure to get renters insurance. It's not told to us to get it, so we don't assume it's necessary."
ANNELISE IS NOT ALONE. MANY PEOPLE FROM COLLEGE STUDENTS TO MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES SOMEHOW FORGET TO BUY INSURANCE FOR THEIR RENTAL HOME, APARTMENT OR CONDO.
"No…don't have it, didn't know about it."
"Well it's the responsible thing to do. I've got nice things and I'd want them to be replaced if something happened.
SOME APARTMENT COMPLEXES REQUIRE RENTERS TO BUY INSURANCE.BUT UNLIKE REGULAR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE. RENTERS INSURANCE IS PRETTY CHEAP.
"i think around 15 dollars a month, maybe 17 tops. So it's real affordable."
BUT IT ALSO IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT RENTERS INSURANCE COVERS. AND WHAT IT DOESN'T.
"You're not insuring the structure. Understand that your renters insurance is going to cover all of your belongings, and most students have computers, tv's, stereos."
PETE MORAGA WITH THE INSURANCE INFORMATION NETWORK SAYS RENTERS INSURANCE NOT ONLY COVERS ELECTRONICS AND OTHER VALUABLES BUT ALSO PROTECTS YOU IN THE CASE OF A POTENTIAL LAWSUIT.
SO IF SOMEONE SLIPS AND FALLS IN YOUR APARTMENT, IF YOU HAVE A DOG AND IT BITES SOMEBODY, IT COVERS YOU FOR LIABILITY.
STAND UP: BOB HANSEN / CONSUMER REPORTER 1:26-1:36
NOW IF YOU HAVE A SON OR DAUGHTER THAT LIVES IN A COLLEGE DORM, THEY ARE PROBABLY COVERED BY YOUR HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE. BUT ONCE THEY MOVE OFF CAMPUS THE POLICY DOESN'T FOLLOW THEM.
THAT'S WHEN THEY SHOULD BUY THEIR OWN INSURANCE. IN FACT, TWO OR THREE STUDENTS LIVING IN ONE HOME OR APARTMENT CAN ALL PUT THEIR NAMES ON ONE RENTERS INSURANCE POLICY.
SO WHETHER YOU ARE A STUDENT OR A LONG TERM RENTER. PASSING UP ON RENTERS INSURANCE IS NOT A RISK WORTH TAKING.

"When the history books are written in future years, historians will have to record this movement as one of the greatest epics of our heritage. I think the movement represents struggle on the highest level of dignity and discipline. No one of good will can disagree with the ends of the sit-in movement. The end to break down all barriers between people on the basis of race, color."

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
