SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS
Seems like we've had plenty of days this summer to talk about the influence of southwest winds on our side of Florida. The normal summer pattern starts with an easterly wind during the morning and the onshore winds in the afternoon. When we get southwest winds setting up for the full day that usually means showers in the morning, midday, and afternoon. For the next two days that will be the forecast….a chance for "on and off" showers at any daypart. High temperatures will continue to hit 90 degrees and overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 70's.
In the Atlantic we are still tracking Hurricane Leslie and Tropical Storm Michael. Neither storm is a threat to Florida.
In the Gulf of Mexico we have an interesting weather feature developing. The remnant low pressure area which was once Hurricane Isaac is moving back into the Gulf. Over the next few days we will have to watch this closely. If the system moves closer to Florida this weekend we could see a noticeable increase in rain by Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Early heads up …. There could certainly be more rain to track this weekend.

"I like the idea you have some flexibility with the pay, you can use coins, dollar bills, debit or credit card which is nice because nowadays people don't have cash typically."
COUNCIL HAS DECIDED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PROJECT WHICH WILL ADD PAY STATIONS TO EIGHT BEACH LOTS-- THEN EXPAND.
BEFORE EVERYTHING IS SET IN STONE-- COUNCIL NEEDS TO MOVE SOME MONEY AROUND TO PAY FOR THE PROJECT. THEYLL DO THAT TONIGHT, AND THE OFFICAL APPROVAL WILL HAPPEN ON SEPT 19TH.

"It's like a thunderbolt of pain that goes across my body."
FOR YEARS, CATHERINE VONDERHUDE LIVED EACH DAY, EACH HOUR, EACH MINUTE IN PAIN.
"Little things you would take for granted are a far reach from what you can do."
THE PAIN STARTED IN CATHERINE'S NECK, AND THEN MOVED TO HER CERVICAL REGION. DUE TO EXTREME PAIN, SHE HAD DIFFICULTY USING USE HER ARMS AND WAS FORCED TO GIVE UP HER INTERIOR DESIGN BUSINESS. SHE LIVED ON PAIN MEDICATION AND STEROID SHOTS. ONE DAY, THE PAIN BECAME SO INTENSE SHE FORGOT WHERE SHE WAS.
"I ended up in the subway yards. The motorman didn't notice I was still on the train. I had been slumped over."
THEN SHE HEARD ABOUT NEUROSTIMULATION TO ZAP HER PAIN AWAY, ALTERING PAIN SIGNALS BEFORE THEY REACH THE BRAIN.
"It's like having an injection, except there's no medication. There are wires. There's no incision, no scars."
THE SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF A SMALL GENERATOR AND LEADS. THE LEADS ARE ATTACHED OUTSIDE THE SPINAL CORD. THE GENERATOR PRODUCES MILD ELECTRICAL PULSES WHICH INTERFERE WITH THE PAIN SIGNALS AND REPLACE THE PAIN WITH A MASSAGING AND TINGLING SENSATION.
"It's not a cure, and it's not an antibiotic, but it has given her life back, and that's what she wanted to get her life back."
BEFORE THE STIMULATOR-CATHERINE SAYS HER PAIN WAS A 10 OUT OF 10. TODAY SHE TELLS US IT'S A THREE -A NUMBER AND A FEELING THAT SHE THOUGHT SHE WOULD NEVER EXPERIENCE AGAIN.

A FAMILY SAYS AMERICAN AIRLINES BOOTED THEM OFF A FLIGHT. BECAUSE THEIR SON HAS DOWN SYNDROME.
THEY'RE CLAIMING DISCRIMINATION.
BUT THE AIRLINES SAY THE CHILD'S BEHAVIOR FORCED THEM TO DO IT.
CAROLYN COSTELLO HAS THE VIDEO OF WHAT SPARKED THE OUTRAGE.

THIS HOME VIDEO SHOW BEDE VANDERHORST AT A JOURNEY CONCERT.
THE 16-YEAR-OLD BOY CALLED UP ON STAGE AND GIVEN A GUITAR BY THE BAND.
HIS PARENTS DESCRIBE HIM AS OUTGOING, FUN-LOVING AND CHARMING, BUT THEY SAY THE SON THEY LOVE WAS SINGLED OUT AND DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE HE HAS DOWN SYNDROME.
"We were not allowed on the plane because this man saw my son and made a decision."
JOAN AND ROBERT SPOKE WITH US THROUGH SKYPE, TELL US AS THEY WAITED TO BOARD AN AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT WITH THEIR SON, THEY WERE TOLD THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED ON.
"Ok my question is why are you singling me out and saying -- why aren't you telling them and them and them all those people who children they have to."
"This is a controlled area, you should not be recording this."
JOAN PULLED OUT HER CELL PHONE AND BEGAN TO VIDEOTAPE, DOCUMENTING WHAT SHE BELIEVES WAS A VIOLATION OF HER SON'S CIVIL RIGHTS AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT.
HER SON WHO WAS LABELED A FLIGHT RISK -- CAN BE SEEN IN THE VIDEO SITTING AT THE GATE, QUIETLY PLAYING WITH HIS HAT.
IN THE VIDEO, YOU CAN HEAR JOAN SOBBING AND HER HUSBAND EXPRESSING DISBELIEF.
"He's behaving. He's demonstrating he's not a problem."
"I kept saying, 'Is this only because he has Down syndrome?'"
THE FAMILY HAS FLOWN TOGETHER DOZENS OF TIMES.
THE ONLY THING DIFFERENT WAS THAT THEY HAD UPGRADED FOR THE FIRST TIME TO FIRST CLASS.
"That this little boy had a seat in the first class area, and for some reason, they didn't want that. That wasn't acceptable."
AMERICAN AIRLINES RELEASED A STATEMENT THAT READS IN PART, "THE YOUNG MAN EXCITABLE, RUNNING AROUND, AND NOT ACCLIMATED TO THE ENVIRONMENT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CALM HIM DOWN AND ACCLIMATE HIM TO THE SURROUNDINGS. HIS EFFORTS WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. FOR THE SAFETY OF THE YOUNG MAN AND THE SAFETY
OF OTHERS, AMERICAN AIRLINES OFFERED TO BOOK ANOTHER FLIGHT FOR THE FAMILY."
BUT THE FAMILY SAYS THAT STATEMENT IS UNTRUE.
THEY SAY THEY WILL SUE AMERICAN AIRLINES AND HOPE THEIR EXPERIENCE WILL TEACH THE COMPANY AND PEOPLE IN GENERAL, A VALUABLE LESSON.
"To respect each person's dignity. Every one of us should be treated with equal dignity."

IT LOOKS LIKE THE CHECKOUT AT ANY GROCERY STORE, BUT POLICE SAY THIS VIDEO OF TWO KIDS LEAVING AN UPPER DARBY PATHMARK
FRIDAY NIGHT IS ANYTHING BUT TYPICAL.
"I truly believe the kids didn't know what they were doing, they were just following mom's orders."
POLICE SAY THE TWO KIDS WERE BROUGHT TO THE STORE BY THEIR MOTHER, 36-YEAR-OLD NAKEISHA WILLIAMS, AROUND 9:30 ON FRIDAY
NIGHT.
"Mom gets two shopping carts. She tells the little girl, the ten year old, to push the shopping cart. And they walk through the store, and she loads into the one shopping cart two fans and a comforter. And then mom takes the other cart and goes to get juice, milk and bread."
POLICE SAY WILLIAMS PAID FOR THE FOOD ITEMS, BUT SHE TOLD THE KIDS TO LEAVE THE STORE WITH THE REST.
"As they go to check out, mom tells the ten year old, who unbeknownst is stealing, to meet me outside."
CHITWOOD SAYS THE KIDS DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE PUSHING STOLEN GOODS OUTSIDE THE STORE, AND SAY WILLIAMS CONFESSED TO
USING HER KIDS TO TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH THE CRIME.
"Mom's story is that she did steal the merchandise."
Reporter: "Are you a relative?"
Relative: "The news, Channel 10 News is here. Yes, I'm a relative, but she's not available, and she doesn't live here."
RELATIVES OF WILLIAMS SPOKE TO NBC-10 THROUGH A DOOR AND SAYS WILLIAMS WAS UNAVAILABLE TO TALK TO US.
Reporter: "Do you have anything you want to say about her arrest?"
Relative: "Anything I want to say about her arrest? I'm unaware of her arrest."
"Williams is now charged with a number of crimes, including corruption and endangering her children as well as theft. Investigators say that she told
them she figured store security wouldn't stop the kids."
