IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA."More afternoon storms"
The fall season officially starts on Saturday morning, however the summer rains will continue across Southwest Florida as we round out the week and head into the weekend.
Early this morning we'll wake to more clouds across the area and temperatures in the middle 70s for most. With some breaks in the cloud cover through the day, temperatures will easily warm into the upper 80s along the coast with 90° readings east of I-75.
A cold front to our north continues to decay and wash out over the state, therefore keeping clouds mixing in with our sunshine today and scattered downpours and storms during the afternoon. Steering winds look to become more from the south, which will allow the rain to favor areas closer to the urban corridor and coastal communities through the evening before pushing offshore.
Once the sunsets, the rain should fade and skies will partially clear with lows in the middle 70s by morning.
Heading into the weekend, some tropical moisture being pulled northward from the Caribbean across the Peninsula will bring a few more clouds into the forecast for Saturday along with higher than normal rain prospects.
Sunday looks to be the drier of the weekend days with morning sunshine and hit or miss afternoon storms.
As far as the tropics are concerned, all is quiet with the exception of Tropical Storm Nadine in the eastern Atlantic.

DEFENSE SECRETARY LEON PANETTA CALLS IT AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE. IT'S BEEN
ALMOST THREE YEARS SINCE A WAVE OF ADDITIONAL U-S TROOPS DEPLOYED TO
AFGHANISTAN. IN A SURGE DESIGNED TO CRIPPLE THE TALIBAN, DEFEAT AL QAEDA,
AND GIVE AFGHAN FORCES THE SUPPORT THEY NEED. THIS MORNING. THE LAST OF
THOSE AMERICANS ARE OUT.
IT WAS DECEMBER 1ST, 2009 -- AT WEST POINT-- THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA
ANNOUNCED THE SURGE.
And as Commander-in-Chief, I have determined that it is in our
vital national interest to send an additional 30- thousand US troops to
Afghanistan.
AT THAT TIME. HE ALSO ANNOUNCED THE SCHEDULE FOR THEIR WITHDRAWAL.
A GOAL THAT HAS NOW BEEN MET.
U.S. SURGE IN AFGHANISTAN
33,000 troops deployed
10,000 out by July 2011
23,000 remaining are now gone
33-THOUSAND U-S TROOPS TOOK PART IN THE SURGE.
10-THOUSAND OF THEM WERE OUT BY JULY OF LAST YEAR.
AND THE REMAINING 23-THOUSAND ARE NOW GONE.
BUT IN HIS STATEMENT, THE DEFENSE SECRETARY HAD A SOBERING REMINDER.
SAYING
"It is important to underscore that even as our surge troops return home,
there are roughly 68,000 Americans who remain in a tough fight in
Afghanistan, alongside their NATO and Afghan partners. We are a nation at
war."
-- Leon Panetta
Defense Secretary
THE HUMAN TOLL OF THE SURGE WAS TREMENDOUS. OF THE ALMOST 2- THOUSAND U-S
CASUALTIES IN AFGHANISTAN. 57 PERCENT HAPPENED DURING THE SURGE. NOW
THOSE WHO REMAIN FACE THE DIEHARD INSURGENTS, AND THE GROWING THREAT OF
INSIDER ATTACKS.
BUT THE GOAL IN AFGHANISTAN REMAINS WHAT IT WAS FROM THE START. OF THE
WAR-- ALMOST 11 YEARS AGO-- IN THE EARLY DAYS AFTER 9/11. TO KEEP
AFGHANISTAN FROM EVER AGAIN BECOMING A BASE FOR TERRORISTS TO ATTACK THE
UNITED STATES.
AND THE DEADLINE TO BRING THE FINAL AMERICAN TROOPS HOME IS STILL 2014.
