GOOD MORNING EVERYONE.

TODAY IS SUNDAY. SEPTEMBER 23RD.

I'M JOE ROETZ.

BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY -

LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST JOHN PATRICK WITH OUR STORMWARN 7 FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

The weather system that provided all the clouds and rain Saturday will push farther south today, keeping the best chance of a shower over southern portions of the viewing area. The good news is for most of us, we'll be in store for a lot more sunshine today as dry air settles in from the north.

Enough moisture will linger through the day to produce some isolated rain and more clouds over Hendry and Collier County. The areas most susceptible to seeing shower will be along and southeast of a line from Clewiston through Immokalee to Naples, but even here, rain chances will be dropping through the day as the drier air starts filtering in.

Temperatures should be much warmer today with more sunshine in play. On Saturday we only warmed into the mid 80s, but most spots should close in on 90 degrees this afternoon. Another nice chance we'll notice today is a slight drop in humidity. It won't be a big difference, but enough dry air should mix in to keep our heat index at more tolerable levels.

Look for our sky to stay mostly clear tonight, and our temperatures will be more comfortable, too, with lows expected to cool into the low 70s. Locations deeper inland will get even cooler with lows there in the mid to upper 60s.

Monday and Tuesday will be mostly dry days as our atmosphere stays fairly tame. We may manage to squeeze out one or two late-day showers, but rain chances will be on the low side. Meanwhile, our temperatures will stay close to average with highs close to 90 and low in the low 70s. Our sky should stay mostly sunny both days.

By mid week, moisture will start building back over Southwest Florida, so we'll start noticing increasing rain chances by Wednesday and even more so by Thursday.

As we approach the upcoming weekend, the forecast will call for a mix of sun and clouds with highs close to 90s along with more scattered afternoon storms. Return to index of stories...

Alicia: The minute he got in it was like smile from ear to ear. He loved it loved it.

Gretchen Thomasson, Island Dolphins Care: The most common benefit we see across the board is increase in self-esteem and self-confidence.

Gia: Born with a heart defect Joe Hoagland suffered a massive stroke at age 3. His parents turned to dolphins when he didn't respond to traditional therapy.

Joe Hoagland, inspired parents to found IDC: The doctors had told my Mom and Dad that it is not possible. Best thing you can do is to stick him in an institution.

Gia: But that all changed when Joe got in the water with the dolphins.

Peter Hoagland, Joes' father: Seeing his success my wife had said: 'would you like me to create a program for all the children in our community with special needs and disabilities. And that is how it all started.

Gia: Today families travel from across the world to find hope here in Key Largo.

I think it gives them a really a good chance to be together have fun together play together. Where as a lot of the time he is in the hospital.

In Benghazi, the birthplace of Libya's revolution, thousands took to the streets, demanding dozens of the country's militas be dismantled. What began as a peaceful protest, ended in a clash with armed groups that have come to dominate the city.

We have to make just one army here in libya

In response to the September 11 attack of the US Consulate that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, Libyans stormed the headquarters of Islamic milita Ansar al Sharia, a group they claim was involved in that attack.

Within hours, protestors overran the compound forcing the militia members to flee.

In all, at least 11 protesters were killed and dozens injured in the clashes.

Meanwhile, as the US continues to investigate what happened the night of the u.s. consulate attack.

CNN reports it had found a copy of Ambassador Steven's personal journal after the attack and that Stevens wrote about how he feared for his life in the newly liberated country.

Across the Middle East, American embassies remain on alert in the wake of recent protests over that anti-islam film posted on youtube earler this month.

In Pakistan, the death toll rose to more than 20 today after violent clashes between police and tens of thousands of protesters angry about that you-tube video.

Incident Commander

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

FIRE AND SMOKE ARE NEVER FAR AWAY OUT HERE.

YOU CAN OFTEN WATCH THE BATTLE UNFOLDING IN THE DISTANCE

Nat sound of a helicopter.

AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THESE COMMUNITIES

Nat sound.

IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO RELAX WHILE THE LAND IS STILL BURNING.

It's heartbreaking to imagine losing it.

HE'S WORRIED ABOUT HIS FAMILY'S PROPERTY NEAR THE TOWN OF LIBERTY, PORTIONS OF WHICH THE FIRE HAS ALREADY SCORCHED.

CHUCK SHELTON BRACES FOR THE WORST.

I grew up going up to places just heaven on Earth and they've had to contemplate the potential, I was just talking to my son about it this week, about what would we do, everything burns.

We should stop the fire.

REX REED IS THE INCIDENT COMMANDER.

A FORMAL WAY OF SAYING HE'S IN CHARGE OF THE WHOLE THING, 900 FIREFIGHTERS TRYING TO END THE TABLE MOUNTAIN FIRE.

Nat sound.

WHILE HIS CREWS HAVE MADE A LOT OF PROGRESS CORRALLING THE FLAMES, HE'S WORRIED ABOUT A WILD CARD.

Nat sound.

WIND.

FIERCE WINDS THAT COULD ARRIVE WITH A WEATHER FRONT THAT THREATENS TO CREATE TURBULENT AIR.

They're very erratic.

They can go any direction and they literally come straight down and push out with terrain

AND THOSE WINDS CAN SUDDENLY PUSH THE FIRE IN ANY DIRECTION, OVERTAKING FIREFIGHTERS AND CHARGING ONCE AGAIN TOWARD NEIGHBORHOODS.

WHILE HE'S LIKE TO LEAVE THIS MISSION WITH NO HOMES LOST, THE INCIDENT COMMANDER TELLS ME THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HE'S LEARNED IN ALL HIS YEARS OF FIGHTING FIRES.

Grass and brush grows back.

Timber grows back.

Houses are rebuilt.

The public and firefighters are irreplaceable. Return to index of stories...

MAIN WEATHER-WX WALL
