530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WXWALL

Another nice day is in store for Southwest Florida with more sunshine, slightly lower humidity, and low rain chances in our forecast

A layer of dry, stable air will continue to settle over Southwest Florida through the day, keeping shower chances at a minimum and sunshine at a maximum. Some thin high clouds may stream overhead to dim the sunlight at times, but overall today will be quite sunny.

Another bonus from the drier air is our humidity levels will stay slightly lower during the heat of the day, so the air should feel a littler more comfortable and not quite as muggy.

It's still going to be a rather warm day, however. Temperatures will start pleasantly in the low 70s early this morning and then quickly climb into the mid to upper 80s by midday. During the middle of the afternoon, our temperatures will peak around 90 before settling back in the 80s this evening and then the low 70s overnight.

Moisture will slowly but surely start building back into Southwest Florida through the course of the week, so we'll mention just a few late day showers Tuesday afternoon and a few more showers and storms Wednesday.

For the second half of the week, rain chances will be around 50/50 with the prime time for rain coming in the afternoon and evening. Otherwise, look for a mix of sun and clouds through the week with highs close to 90 and lows in the low to mid 70s. Return to index of stories...

BRIAN BURNELL REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

FOOD MARKETING OBESITY-PKG

ACCORDING TO YALE UNIVERSITY'S RUDD CENTER FOR FOOD POLICY AND OBESITY, OVER 2-THIRDS OF AMERICANS ARE OVERWEIGHT OR OBESE.

IN AN EFFORT TO HELP THE AMERICAN WEIGHT PROBLEM MCDONALD'S HAS DECIDED TO START LISTING CALORIE INFORMATION ON MENUS IN 14-THOUSAND RESTAURANTS.

A NEW LAW REQUIRING THAT TAKES AFFECT NEXT YEAR AND MCDONALD'S IS GETTING A HEAD START.

AND IN NEW YORK THE BOARD OF HEALTH HAS VOTED TO BAN THE SERVING OF SUGARY DRINKS IN CONTAINERS BIGGER THAN 16 OUNCES OVER THE OBJECTION OF SOME.

"We do not believe that restricting the size of one product in certain establishments in the city is the comprehensive approach that we need to deal with this issue."

THE BAN APPLIES TO BALLPARKS, RESTAURANTS, MOVIE THEATERS AND FOOD TRUCKS AND ITS SOMETHING MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG HAS PUSHED.

"This is the single biggest step any city I think has ever taken to curb obesity."

"But will it work? Will posting calorie counts and banning big gulps really help Americans lose weight?"

"We don't know specifically whether these things will work until they're tried."

KELLY BROWNELL IS THE DIRECTOR OF THE RUDD CENTER. HE SAYS THERE ARE SOME STUDIES THAT SUGGEST MOVES LIKE THESE MAY BE EFFECTIVE.

"One thing that's nice is that different cities and states are trying different plans and this provides lots of natural experiments that you can use to converge on a small set of bets practices."

AND, HE ADDS, THE CONVERSATION ALONE IS HEALTHY.

"People are paying more attention to the obesity problem and at all levels of government officials are now thinking what can we do, what should we do, what do we need to do in our locality and those conversations will lead to good things."

BY THE WAY, A BIG MAC HAS 550 CALORIES ACCORDING TO MCDONALD'S NUTRITION INFORMATION. Return to index of stories...

IN TODAY'S TECH BYTES. I-PHONE PORTABILITY.

THE VERIZON VERSION OF THE NEW I-PHONE FIVE WILL ALSO WORK ON A-T-AND-T IF

YOU SWAP SIM CARD CHIPS.

THE TWO CARRIERS USE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS AND ORDINARILY PHONES FOR

ONE WON'T WORK ON THE OTHER.

ONLY ABOUT A THIRD OF DOMESTIC AIRLINE FLIGHTS HAVE WI-FI SERVICE.

THE ROUTE-HAPPY WEBSITE SAYS ALL VIRGIN AMERICA AND AIR-TRAN

FLIGHTS HAVE IT.

BUT PRACTICALLY NO UNITED PLANES DO.

AMONG MAJOR CARRIERS. DELTA HAS THE MOST INTERNET-CAPABLE

FLIGHTS -- ABOUT TWO-THIRDS OF THEM.

"ROCK BAND BLITZ" IS A NOTE-MATCHING GAME THAT TESTS YOUR SKILL AT PLAYING

ALONG WITH SONGS.

BUT UNLIKE OTHER GAMES IN THE "ROCK BAND FRANCHISE," IT'S A

SINGLE-PLAYER GAME, AND GAMES-DOT-COM'S LIBBY GOAD FOUND THAT DISAPPOINTING.

"The only real social component to this game is you can see how your score

stacks up against your friends who are playing this game."

"ROCK BAND BLITZ" IS AVAILABLE FOR THE PLAYSTATION THREE AND THE X-BOX THREE

SIXTY.

IT'S NOT MUCH, BUT IT'S A START:

THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS NOW 3-81A GALLON.

THAT'S A NICKEL LESS THAN A WEEK AGO. BUT STILL MORE THAN A

MONTH AGO.

APPLE STORES ARE ALL BUT OUT OF THE NEW I-PHONE FIVE AFTER THE FIRST WEEKEND

OF SALES.

SALES WERE BETTER THAN EXPECTED. WITH A-T-AND-T PHONES

SELLING FASTER THAN VERIZON AND SPRINT MODELS.

THE PHONE IS STILL AVAILABLE ON APPLE'S WEBSITE, BUT NOT FOR

IMMEDIATE DELIVERY.

TRADER JOE'S IS RECALLING ITS HOUSE BRAND OF PEANUT BUTTER BECAUSE OF A

POSSIBLE SALMONELLA CONTAMINATION.

29 CASES IN 18 STATES MAY BE RELATED. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO

CONFIRMED REPORTS OF CONTAMINATION OF CREAMY SALTED VALENCIA PEANUT BUTTER.

THERE WAS A VIRTUAL TIE AT THE BOX OFFICE DURING A QUIET WEEKEND BETWEEN TWO

FILMS WITH "END" IN THE TITLE.

"END OF WATCH" GOT BETTER REVIEWS AND AUDIENCE REACTION THAN "

HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET."

EACH TOOK IN 13 MILLION DOLLARS.

STORMWARN FORECAST-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS TH

E FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.Another nice day is in store for Southwest Florida with more sunshine, slightly lower humidity, and low rain chances in our forecast
