DEADLY DRIVE BY SHOOTING-POP-SS-POP

ONE TEEN IS DEAD -- TWO OTHERS ARE INJURED AFTER A DRIVE BY SHOOTING LAST NIGHT ON DAVIS COURT.

WITNESSES SAY PEOPLE IN A PICKUP TRUCK OPENED FIRE ON THE VICTIMS.

THE THREE ARE PART OF A RAP GROUP SEEN HERE -- KNOWN AS "THE LAKE BOYS."

THE SHOOTING KILLED 19 YEAR OLD JAMARIS WILIAMS.

AS ABC 7'S MEAGHAN SMITH REPORTS - FORT MYERS IS ABOUT TO MEET A DEADLY MILESTONE. Return to index of stories...

DEADLY DRIVE BY SHOOTING-PKG-BNR

he's fort myers' latest murder victim.

19 year-old jamaris williams was shot and killed last night on davis court in dunbar.

two other teens- paul baldwin and tommy williams were also hit, but are expected to be ok.

15:41 deloria "we're not doing well at all- this is a cycle for us. it's getting worse and worse."

the 3 teens are all part of the group-

lake boys, accodring to family members.

their videos show guns and use explicit lyrics as they rap about violence and other topics.

paul baldwin's mother says the group is not a gang-

but fears it's being portrayed badly and possibly leading to this shooting.

deloria 16:11 "those videos are not gang-related- those videos are videos of these young people trying to support their family and get something done."

damaris williams' cousin says the teen was just trying to make something of himself.

29:49 tony "he's a good person- that's all i can say. i'm sad to see a man just taken off this earth for no reason."

chief doug baker says this shooting had nothing to do with the videos-

and that evidence points to another motive, which he won't discuss.

baker tells us community cooperation is still one of their biggest hurdles in cracking all these murders.

32:15 baker "if the witnesses would come forward that i have spoken to that wish to remain anonomyous, i could clear half our homicides this afternoon." Return to index of stories...

FOR YEARS THOSE LIVING IN LEHIGH ACRES SAY THEY'VE NEVER FELT LIKE PART OF THE FAMILY.

15:31 "We definitely feel refer to ourselves as the redheaded step child and sometimes it feels that way. Sometimes it feels like other parts of the county get the steak and we get the scraps." 15:42 Tami Baker, Lehigh Acres Community Council

BUT NOT ANYMORE. LAST WEEK LEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVED A MEASURE THAT WILL LITERALLY PAVE THE WAY FOR THE FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN LEHIGH.

02:46 "We're trying to give Lehigh downtown an appearance of a downtown that's welcoming a place where you want to come and shop and place where builders will eventually be bringing new buildings." 3:01 Jim Kreger, CCLA

COMMISSIONERS SAY IT WILL ALL START WITH 2 FEASIBILITY STUDIES.COSTING ABOUT 5-HUNDRED AND 56 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

IT'S MONEY THAT WILL GO TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF 2 ACTIVITY CENTERS IN LEHIGH.

15:51 "We've put pressure on county commissioners. We've put pressure on other county entities and they're finally responding to us." 15:57 - Baker

THE COUNTY WILL ALSO INVEST 1-POINT-5 MILLION TOWARDS A COMPREHENSIVE ENGINEERING STUDY THAT WILL TAKE A LOOK AT EVERYTHING FROM LANDSCAPING TO TRAFFIC PATTERNS.

BUT THAT'S WHERE SOME ARE SIGNALING CAUTION.

"Not surprising community members are thrilled with the idea of revitalizing downtown Lehigh however one concern at the moment is over proposed roundabouts one which could go right here between Homestead road and Ashlar avenue."

23:57 "There's an accident a day on this road already." 24:00 Ruth Anglickis, Landex Resorts International, INC.

SINCE SOME OF THE EARLY ROAD DESIGNS CHANGE HOMESTEAD ROAD FROM 4 TO 2 LANES, THOSE CLOSE BY LIKE RUTH ANGLICKIS SAY IT'S A MATTER OF PUBLIC SAFETY.

23:29 " My biggest concern is ambulances, school buses, and traffic trying to get through." 23:24 Anglickis

BUT COMMISSIONERS SAY IT'S TOO EARLY IN THE PLANNING STAGES TO BE UP IN ARMS.

THEY SAY THAT'S WHY THEY'RE MOVING FORWARD WITH THESE STUDIES BEFORE ANY SHOVEL BREAKS GROUND.

WEATHER-PWC

We're starting the week off just right - high clouds, sunshine, and no rain. Of course this will not last. Humidity levels will begin rising, it'll feel uncomfortable, and by the end of the week showers will return.

The cloud cover we had on Monday came from thunderstorms in the Caribbean and Gulf. How does that happen? Simple. The winds thousands of feet in the air clipped the cloud tops and spread them over southwest Florida. At times it looked like it would rain, but it never did. The air under the clouds was just too dry. If rain did fall, it would evaporate before it reached the surface.

The drier air will soon be replaced with the nasty tropical air by midweek. That's when heat index values will rise, and isolated storms become numerous.

This will be a gradual transition. A few thunderstorms will be evident on radar Tuesday, they'll be widely spaced. Wednesday through Friday rain chances continue to increase - it'll be a return to the "norm" for southwest Florida. Mix of sun and clouds, and scattered thunderstorms each afternoon.

The weekend forecast looks like another split decision. One day looks nice while the other day doesn't. The best day will be Saturday. There will be some thunderstorms with mostly cloudy skies. Sunday will be quite the soaker as skies will be overcast and there will be numerous thunderstorms to track! That carries over into Monday, too, so expect a wet commute to work and school.

Conditions on the waters look nice for you beach and boat goers. Winds will be fairly light, and the inland waterways will have a slight chop. Return to index of stories...

I find this study very exciting but it really is a stay-tuned situation. it
